Want to post an update since the main games I’m playing aren’t games with clear endings. Cozy Grove likely has an ending story-wise but I don’t think I’m anywhere near that point yet (thankfully).

Cozy Grove is probably one of my favorite games at the moment. As someone who has been a huge fan of Animal Crossing since the gamecube, I'd like to point out to a large amount of negative reviewers - if you read the store page, you'd know that the real time limitations are part of the core mechanic. If you don't like things like that, then why would you purchase it?
Personally, I love only being able to do so much every day. It keeps me wanting to come back. I feel like when I play a game nonstop for a few days, I'm more likely to get sick of it. But honestly, there is enough content to play as much as I want, too - materials are constantly spawning, allowing me to harvest and sell for money or crafting. Not to mention, I love the fact that I seem to unlock new types of fish to catch each day? Not sure if that's an actual mechanic, but it definitely feels like I find things that weren't available the day before. It makes me want to try some fishing every day even when it's not needed.
I only have a few very small issues. One, I wish that the fish sold for more. I've sold an entire inventory of fish, some of which were rare I believe, for under 1k coins. I'm not saying they should be worth a ton, but a little more money for my time would be nice. The other issue is that sometimes the game takes a long time to allow me to interact with the object that I want, but the issue is that there's too many items in the area, so I do understand the issue. It can just be a bit annoying. Nothing that I'd consider a deterrent from the game in general.
The steam page says that you get 30-60 minutes of gameplay a day. And honestly? I often get more than that. Whether it's me sucking to find the hidden objects of the day or getting distracted fishing and redecorating or wanting to work on my collections, I can easily get 2 hours in. Even days like today where I have minimal quests, I spend more time gathering materials to work on new recipes.
There's so much more positive things I could say, but honestly, I want to get back to playing.
Absolutely recommend this game to anyone who doesn't hate the idea of the real world time mechanic.

I 100% made fun of this game going into it. There's like, nothing to do but literal farming. It's like a $30 version of farmville. Etc etc etc.
And yet I can easily loose an entire day to it? I do not understand.
It's literally just. Grow crops. Plant new ones. Plant trees. Feed farm animals. Harvest. Complete quests for people. Very basic and straight forward. Each season passes in 17 minutes, and you can only grow certain crops and harvest from certain trees each season. The length of the seasons honestly feels perfect. It gives me enough time to complete the harvests that I want (most of the time), while not being so long that I will close the game if it's not in the season that I need.
I also love the encouragement to go help out other farms by providing a boost. Originally I was only going to other farms for the event stuff, I can admit that, but I find myself still going out and helping strangers just so I can get that 2x boost when I go back to my own farm.
That also brings up the events. While I've only been around for the current one, I do know that they are typically 2 weeks and then 2 weeks off. There is absolutely enough time to complete events, even if you don't get as sucked in as I do, which I really, really appreciate. Even as a new player I was able to take part, and honestly? I finished the event in 3 days due to obsessive playing. And I don't even feel annoyed that I finished early, because I feel like I only gained - I now have more trees to harvest for diamonds, and I love the decorations I unlocked.
The amount of DLC can be kind of offsetting - I was worried I'd need it to have a good time. And while I did wind up buying 1 DLC (for now), it's in no way needed for good gameplay. Each DLC just brings new crops, decorations, and clothes. If you don't have the DLC? You won't get quests for the DLC crops. There's no making you feel like you NEED to buy the DLC, which I appreciate.
Again, I can't really say what I like about the actual gameplay. Whenever I think about it my brain just asks me why I like this game. But my friend and I can hop in a discord call for hours daily to play, both together and on our own farms. But even when it's just me alone, I can lose hours to it without realizing it. The price seems like a lot for a farming game, to me at least (I can be picky with game costs), and yet I've definitely gotten more than my money's worth just in the past week or so. 42 hours. Dang. As someone who usually wants 1 hour for every dollar spent (with a few exceptions), more than happy, especially as I'm not sick of it yet.

Oh, goodness. It seems like these are two games I should be sure to avoid. I’ve also sunk many, many hours in Animal Crossing: New Horizons since I started playing it on 31-Jan and the last thing I need is another addictive game like that. Thank you for the warning! :D

RileyHisbert

Yeah I sunk like… 300 hours into it in the first few months it was out… stopped playing for a while, but recently (like past few days) picked it up again with a friend gosdjigjds Cozy Grove definetly feels like LESS of a time sink to me, because less items and decorating, but totally understandable to avoid xD

I think I’d be more worried about Farm Together as I like the art style more than Cozy Grove. It’s going to annoy me that I can’t get all the Nook Miles rewards in ACNH without paying more real money. That’s not going to happen.

RileyHisbert

WAit you can’t get them all without paying?? Which ones?

Trent

There are only two– one for visiting other people’s islands and another for having other people visit yours. Both require a Nintendo Online subscription. It’s only 2,000 Nook Miles total which is nothing considering I have about 530,000 unused miles, but I don’t like seeing holes in my list.
[Edit: Also, you won’t be able to get more than three fruit types without visiting other people’s islands.]

RileyHisbert

oooh yeah fair. I forgot because I already had the subscription. To be fair, compared to most onlines, it’s pretty cheap, but yeah I was pissed when nintendo implemented it at all - especially since their online has always been buggy
