Right a bit late again, but here we are. Another month gone, and one third of the way through the year already. But this is a bit more like it. I am still behind on my target for finishing 90 games this year, but with this month my total for the year goes to 29, so it's only off by one game. Not bad considering the painfully slow start to the year. Also significant about this month is the fact I passed the anniversary date of my achievement streak and it's now been 3 years where I've earned at least one achievement every day. Not bad considering during that time, we've moved house, gone on holiday, had a baby and a few power cuts that lasted 12 hours or more.
Apart from the games I beat, I also added some more achievements to Sniper Elite 4 and started playing Staxel with my middle child. A nice little minecraft/animal cross/ harvest moon hybrid, even if a bit shallow. The kid likes it though.
On a personal front, the weather is definitely changing for Winter and Easter weekend was very rainy and quite cold. And my lawn finally seems to be slowing down the growth, which is good, because I've been having to mow it every weekend for months, so I'm looking forward to a break, to do some other things.
Wow this was a fascinating game for anyone with an interest in cryptography. I ultimately had to look up some extra hints for the solutions, but I was suprised by how much I could work out myself. And the details on the workings of the enigma machines was really interesting. I never really thought about how exactly it would work.
This game seemed to be well received. I guess it must have mostly been on the mobile market that this was the case, because it seemed to be quite shallow to me. Literally the same mechanics over and over. And the writing and story wasn't even that good. But I guess it was an ok action RPG? Not a total waste of time, but I bought it directly on Steam because people seemed to like it, so I was expecting a bit more.
Ahh yes. One of my favourite games that I never actually beat! I beat the game originally in the 'non directors cut' version, but never got all the achievements. Then I uninstalled it and played th DC instead, but got distracted along the way and never finished it. So I finally went back this month and beat it twice. Once for the books, hardcore run, no kills and other such things. Then a quick run through on the easiest mode for the no alarms and no augs achievements, and a few sidequest ones I missed. Such a good game though. Intriguing story, great stealth and meaningful augment choices. Glad to finally have a version of it in my list. I'm playing mankind divided as well, but it hasn't quite hit the same high notes as this game yet.
Got it in the humble monthly, and felt it would be a quick and fun one to beat. And it was. When I had more free time a few years ago, I came up with a prototype that was similar in concept to this, but it was going to be game about a day in the life of dog, and once the day ended it would have multiple endings based on what you did. I still have a dream of doing it one day, but work and real life take too much time. Anyway, Minit was a fun game, I enjoyed the puzzles and limited timing meant carefully considering what to do on each run, especially for the low run achievement.
Don't know why this one is listed as having no achievements. But it does, and for years they seemed to be broken, but I still had the game installed. So going through my list it seemed like this had changed the achievements, and people had earned them. So I ground it out for a while, and got it off my system finally. It's... ok? The shocking voice acting, and bland scenarios are definitely a big turn off, but the gameplay was fine as a standard turn based strategy game. Bit grindy, showing it's mobile roots, but it does the job alright.
Ahh say what you like about call of duty and it's many faults, but Modern warfare is absolutely a stone cold classic. I was very generously given advanced warfare, but the best part was that it came with this. And naturally this was the game I played first. It's been years since I played the original, but the remaster has done a great job of giving me the game as I remembered it, whilst deftly improving on the looks and gameplay. The hardest difficulty is actually pretty challenging. Makes me wish they'd kept the series at this level, instead of doubling down on the explosions and over the top action in subsequent COD games.
My go to game when I needed a break for a while now, I finally finished this. Gets pretty repetitive after a while, but it was a nice concept that was cleanly executed.
You ever watch a movie or tv show, where the writing is so bad that the twist ending is so clearly telegraphed, you find yourself thinking that the real twist will be that the obvious answer was just a red herring and the twist will be that this wasn't the twist at all. Then you get to the end and find that, no, the ending was agonisingly as obvious as it looked. Yup, this game is that. It's a walking simulator essentially, with a few ways you can die and some minor puzzles, but what the devs seemed to have missed is that a walking simulator needs a compelling story, which this didn't really have. Anyway it was mercifully short, and the achievements were easy, so yay for that.
A random little game. I like the premise, but then the achievements didn't actually require you to beat the game or anything. Which was actually fine, because the actual gameplay got a bit finicky and boring. It's a physics based puzzler of sorts, but other games have done it much better.
I knew this game was going to be bad going into it, as the 'devs' had basically just copied some guys unity tutorials on youtube. But it was pretty easy, so I figured on the last day of the month it would be a good way to close the month off with one more quick win. I don't recommend the game.
Well, that shows me again, how different the tastes of people are.
I love Cat Quest so much, and I can’t wait for the second part which should be released this year. I even make a few GAs for Cat Quest on SG, because I want people to play this masterpiece. :)
How I say, tastes differ. :)
Haha yeah, that’s true. I don’t know, for me it was just the progression didn’t feel satisfying, it was the same limited gameplay loop. Get a quest, follow a trail, go to a dungeon or two with the same enemies, defeat them in the same way as always and return to the quest giver. For me, the best action RPGs are ones that slowly introduce new enemies and combat strategies, but this starts with a dragon right away, and it never really gets much more variable from there. At the end my combat strategy was still pretty much the same, hit, hit, dodge, magic power, hit, hit, etc.
But the character was really cute. I’ll still check out the sequel, hopefully they make it a bit more varied.
