Aquilla

Finished in September (1, 2)

I’m going with my personal monthly theme- Non-steam games . I have too many games on other platforms, which I didn’t even touch, because Steam… So in this month - no Steam, lets play GOG, Uplay, even Epic or some PS4…

9/10

This game was sooooooooo good. I mean, really. It’s a platformer, and I am a bit tired of platformers, but a gave it a chance and it was awesome. The game is basically a set of very small screens, and each screen is a separate challenge. It’s hard, but if you die, you lost at most 10 seconds of progress So you are not annoyed but just inspired to try again. I finished a main plot with around 1200 deaths, but I didn’t feel overwhelmed at any time. What else can I say… Graphic - very simple but gorgeous. Music - gorgeous. Mechanics - gorgeous ( I love the fact that they keep throwing at you new mechanics till the very end). Characters - gorgeous. Plot… - maybe not gorgeous but sweet. The plot is one thing I won’t praise above skies - it’s very nice, but I’ve seen this “you need to win a battle with yourself and find inner peace, and I am a smart story because I’m telling you this” thing so many times recently, that it’s starting to be a cliche. But other people love this plot, so maybe it’s just old sarcastic me… Nonetheless - did I mentioned that this game is gorgeous?

Dropped

Yea… I feel sorry, that I dropped this game, but it annoyed me one time too many. It is an open world adventure game/walking sim, with a survival element. Think Ethan Carter mixed with The Long Dark on easy difficulty. You are a detective, you arrived to a village, you found a body and now you are on your own. The game is not telling you what to do, you need to explore locations on one big map, search for clues, and piece together, what is happening. Ok… I don’t particularly like these kind of “you are on your own, good luck” games, but this one at least is giving you tips, if you did everything in a location. Survival element - it’s COLD outside and you need to keep warm - basically it come down to searching for places when you can start fire, and matches, wood… it’s not very difficult. So why I dropped it? Well - do you remember the term “pixel hunting” from old adventure games? Because that what this game is - a huge pixel hunt - you arriving in location and start to search for things you can use or take. And you search… and search… because the indicators are small and you need to be close to see them… I mean, come on, I though we were above clicking on every pixel in 2017. This game should have “Hidden Object” genre in tags. Which is a real shame, because a few riddles I’ve seen were quite good, and the atmosphere is awesome. I wanted to love it, but I think I will finish it on You Tube.
