Always Hunting Those Achievements :) VinroyIsViral’s profile

Absolute power moves this month! Finally 100%’d Dead by Daylight, and I made a ton of other completions! Still net negative, as I gained more games than what I completed this month, but next month should be even more completions (DBD took a ton of time this month…).

Half-Life 2

Cast n Chill

4.5/5
50.7 hours

Quite the chill idle game with nice active elements and plenty of fish to find across a lot of beautiful locations. In the latter half of the game, I didn't really have much to do with my currency, as I was just hunting trophy fish, but that's not too big of a deal. Recommended :)

Half-Life 2

Assassin's Creed Origins

4/5
92.8 hours
67 of 67 achievements

This was my first entry into the Assassin's Creed franchise, and it was definitely a fun introduction. The environments and historical accuracy were quite impressive, and I found myself enjoying the gameplay. It's definitely a good open-world game, but it does suffer from somewhat simple combat and a pretty forgettable story. However, in the end, I enjoyed my time with this one. Recommended :)

Half-Life 2

Tower Wizard

5/5
10.3 hours

An excellent incremental game. It has good pixel art paired with a satisfying gameplay loop with enticing progression. The game respects your time while also providing you with the dopamine that these incremental games are known for. It's a perfectly balanced incremental game, and one of the best in the space. Highly recommended :)

Half-Life 2

Remnant Records

There is a reason this game doesn't have many players. It was interesting at first, but it quickly became a boring slog, riddled with bugs and issues. My friend and I encountered so many issues and inconsistencies in the gameplay, which made 100%ing the game even more painful than it needed to be. Not recommended :(

Half-Life 2

Nodebuster

5/5
4.6 hours
13 of 13 achievements

This was a pretty good incremental game. It had a satisfying gameplay loop with good progression, upgrades, and animations. It did become a bit too heavy on the eyes after a while and wasn't really too idle, but I still enjoyed playing through a more active incremental game. Highly recommended :)

Half-Life 2

Shelldiver

5/5
3.4 hours
13 of 13 achievements

Another great incremental game! The systems are really addictive and dopamine-inducing while respecting your time. The art style is also really nice and appealing to the eye. Not idle by any means, so I don't know why that's a tag, but this was really fun. Highly recommended :)

Half-Life 2

Terraria

5/5
353.6 hours

Had to complete it again for the 100%. Still a wonderful game, but they could've done without adding these new achievements. Highly recommended :)

Half-Life 2

Goblin VS Princess

1/5
24.1 hours
27 of 27 achievements

This game dragged on way too long for a game that wasn't very fun to begin with. This is a very boring incremental game that offers little variety and doesn't respect your time. I didn't get a single dopamine hit from this incremental game, which is pretty bad for a game in this genre that is all about them. The dialogue is also choppy and uninteresting. AVOID!

Half-Life 2

Brotato

3.5/5
136.3 hours
177 of 177 achievements

Just replaying this because they added one more achievement in an update. The game is pretty repetitive and boring at this point, but it was fun for the majority of the time I played it. Slightly recommended, but know that it is extremely grindy and requires DLC to 100%.

Half-Life 2

Dead by Daylight

3.5/5
708.2 hours
294 of 294 achievements

This is a fun game, but it is hell to 100%, and it gets boring after a few hundred hours. I likely won't keep this 100% for very long, as they constantly add DLC with achievements like every two or three months, but it is what it is. Don't get this game if you want to 100% it.

Half-Life 2

SPACEPLAN

3.5/5
12.3 hours
no achievements

This was an interesting idle game. It isn't really the most engaging, and the clicking was really obnoxious on my hands and wrist, but the animations and dialogue throughout the game were pretty interesting. If the dialogue wasn't as good, I'd be more mixed on this game, as the dopamine hit wasn't exactly the best, but thankfully, the dev added some humor to make it more entertaining. Recommended, but keep in mind that the gameplay isn't really the most enrapturing :)

Half-Life 2

Anomalous Coffee Machine

1.5/5
31.2 hours
60 of 60 achievements

It has lots of interesting visuals and transformations, but the concept is more interesting than the execution. The gameplay is monotonous and boring, and it doesn't make a lot of sense a fair bit of the time. It also doesn't have as many words as you would expect, which results in a lot of frustration when testing out words for unique dialogue and transformations, and essentially necessitates using a guide for all the different transformations, scenes, and more. Not recommended; I'd stay away from this one, even if the concept seems interesting to you.

Half-Life 2

The Medium

4/5
9.6 hours
39 of 39 achievements

It definitely felt like a console game, but it had a wonderful story. I found the gameplay a bit tedious near the end, and I wasn't really the biggest fan of the 2nd dream world sequence, but the excellent atmosphere and interesting characters made this game triumph over those downsides. I do have to say the ending wasn't the greatest, but I get why they did it that way (especially after the scene after the credits). The game also had performance issues throughout. Recommended, but beware of its issues :)

Half-Life 2

Khimera: Puzzle Island

5/5
37.1 hours
24 of 24 achievements

This was a pretty fun game! It had a lot of charm, and the devs put a lot of heart into this to make it more than just your standard Nonogram game. One of the best nonogram games I've played on Steam so far. Highly recommended if you like Nonograms :)

Half-Life 2

HuniePop

3/5
28.6 hours
20 of 20 achievements

The game isn't bad, the characters are cool, and the scenes are nice. However, this game wears out its welcome, becoming a real grind after a while. I also didn't like having to do two playthroughs to fully complete the game. It isn't a bad game by any means, but it was just really exhausting to play and felt like it went on forever when trying to 100% it. I'd recommend this if you want a Bejeweled-type game and don't mind the grind, but stay away if you aren't a fan of tedious grinds.

Half-Life 2

Merchants of Rosewall

1/5
24.3 hours
18 of 19 achievements

I really wanted to like this game, but it's just so buggy and tedious. I encountered multiple near game-breaking bugs and plenty of typos. The story also felt a bit contrived and pushed an overly optimistic message about complex issues that wasn't practical by any means, while also not showing the result of these ideas. Also, the game has an impossible achievement that you only realize exists after going through this slog of a game. AVOID!!

Half-Life 2

(the) Gnorp Apologue

8/10
15.7 hours
17 of 17 achievements

This was a surprisingly addictive little game with great pixel art. The Gnorps are adorable, and the shard physics are super satisfying. The music is simple but fits the vibe perfectly. Progression feels smooth and doesn’t drag on forever, which I really appreciate. The talent system also has variety, but a lot of filler; the late-game Zybellium grind can also be rough if you don’t know what you’re doing. Overall, a very solid game!

Half-Life 2

Voxelgram

7/10
57.2 hours
37 of 37 achievements

This is a relaxing and engaging puzzle game. The puzzles are clever, fair, and satisfying to solve, with tons of extra content on the Steam Workshop to keep you busy. It’s perfect for unwinding while chatting with friends or family. The soundtrack could use more variety, and the tutorial isn’t great, but you’ll pick things up quickly. The puzzles aren’t too hard, just time-consuming, yet it’s still a wonderfully calming experience I’d recommend.

Half-Life 2

CLANNAD

65.7 hours
22 of 22 achievements

Excellent visual novel. I watched the anime over a decade ago, and it was one of my favorites at the time. It was nice to get back into it. However, this game suffers from a lot of filler, and I felt like it was artificially slow at times. Thankfully, there were many routes with good stories to appreciate, and most of the characters are lovely. I wish there could have been an after story for everyone, as some routes may be a bit grim for some of the girls due to our character not being involved, but it isn't nearly as bad as Kanon in that department.

Route Ranking: Kotomi > Nagisa > Kyou = Sunohara Siblings > Tomoyo = Baseball Route > Kappei = Ryou > Yukine > Koumura > Misae >Sunohara (meme route)

None of the routes are outright bad, but some leave much to be desired. Hopefully, CLANNAD Side Stories helps fill some of the gaps in these routes. Overall, great VN if you're willing to sink a lot of time into one.

Half-Life 2

Minesweeper Ultimate

6.0 hours
15 of 15 achievements

There are definitely better Minesweeper games out there. This was very faithful to retro-style Minesweeper, but I didn't really care for it. The achievements also felt really stressful and overly reliant on constantly resetting boards, hoping you clear out a large patch of tiles so you can beat the board under a certain time. Not recommended.

Half-Life 2

Warframe

1506.1 hours
193 of 193 achievements

It's one of the better F2P games out there with a pretty reasonable monetization system. I enjoyed it for around 300-400 hours, but it got quite repetitive after a while. This is an extremely grindy game, and you'll find yourself doing both fun grinds and horribly miserable grinds.

This one took me a few years to trudge through 100%ing, but I'm finally happy it is off my plate and I can never think about it again (as long as they don't add more achievements, which they havent in years, so I should be fine…). Recommended, but not if you're trying to 100% it or if you're not into grinding games.

December 2025

Didn’t have any completions this month, but I’ve been making a ton of progress on Balatro and CLANNAD, specifically. These are pretty long and enjoyable games, so I’m pretty happy with my current progress.

I’ve also been in EXTREMELY busy this month with finishing up finals, traveling to Las Vegas immediately after that exam was done for a bachelor trip for my friend, back to my place to finish another final, and then where I am currently at my parents’ place to attend a funeral and be with family for the holidays. Not to mention how hectic December is for my business, which is focused on selling and marketing products…

I don’t know why I’m saying this here, but 2025 has been an insanely busy year, and hopefully 2026 can bring many more completions and progress in many portions of my life! I’m wishing the best to anyone who is reading this as well. May 2026 bring wonderful things to all you precious souls!

(P.S. Please ignore the sheer number of games I’ve added this month. Most of these are gifts from wonderful members of Play or Pay, along with my Secret Santas and developers/publishers providing me with games…)

Half-Life 2

Brotato

6/10
134.5 hours
176 of 176 achievements

This is my rating after playing through the DLC after beating the main game. The DLC requiring you to play every character all over again on the new map, along with the new characters on both the old map and new map, was absolutely ridiculous and ruined my initial enjoyment of this game back when it was only the base game. I'd still recommend it if you don't want to achievement hunt it or if you really like games like this, but the DLC makes achievement hunting it way too much of a slog now and saps all my remaining enjoyment out of the game.

Half-Life 2

Kanon

7/10
32.8 hours
14 of 14 achievements

A classic among romance VNs. It's definitely dated with weird pacing and language for a fair number of the routes. To touch on the pacing more, the slow pacing is fine due to the setting, but I feel like they rush certain events near the climax of routes extremely hard to the point it is jarring (e.g., Mai and Sayuri are prime examples). There are plenty more issues I could talk about, but overall, the game is quite solid and memorable. The atmosphere is amazing, most of the characters are wonderful, and the OST definitely enhances it. Yuichii is a bit of an asshole, though, lol.

Route Ranking: Ayu = Shiori > Nayumi > Mai > Makoto > Sayuri (basically not even a route... she deserved better...)

Half-Life 2

Under The Waves

4/10
13.8 hours
38 of 38 achievements

While the atmosphere and overall message were quite nice, I thought this game didn't respect your time at all; everything moved at a slow pace. The actual gameplay also wasn't very fun after the appeal of the environment wore off, and it felt like the actions they made you do dragged on way too long. I also thought the delivery of the story's main messages was a bit preachy and didn't tell you anything new.

Overall, this was just a letdown, and I kept wondering when the game would wrap things up so I could finally be done with it. I'll make a more in-depth review later, but man, this one sucked more than I thought it would (I even dropped it for a few months before finally finishing the rest of it in one go).

Half-Life 2

Road to Empress I

This was a brilliant FMV game! The drama, the intrigue, and lots more are what make this game a gem! The only downside is the number of paths that lead to death, and the trial-and-error of finding the route to success can be a bit frustrating. Also, unlocking all the achievements after finishing the game is a bit annoying, as some minor things from earlier chapters influence random endings, which you would never figure out without a guide. Still a wonderful game, though, and I'd highly recommend it!

Been playing a lot of RuneScape. At least most of my new games were acquired through trading, as birthday gifts, or simply being given to me by developers/publishers for free. Also… apparently Dungeon Clawler got an update that added more achievements shortly after I 100%’d it…

Okay, I PROMISE that most of the games I obtained were either free from developers/publishers, received through trades, or won in giveaways! I “only” purchased four bundles :D (Games are my one vice in life…). At the very least, I was able to make a fair bit of progress despite being very deep into my summer program and doing PhD work nonstop, so I should be able to still complete a fair number of games even once my PhD program is in full swing :)
