Birthday update

Another year, another birthday! And since I put my December summary at the end of the year, this is as good day as any other to talk about the whole year. Or at least about 8 months, because I’m here since May.

So how was that? Very, very good. I played some absolutely awesome games, and I finished (or dropped) 56 games. I feel thats a lot. There were mostly little games for 3-4 evenings, but I had couple of big ones, like Assasin Creed 2. My average score was 6.6/10, with 6 games score 9 (Dust, Eastshade, Celeste, Hollow Knight, Half Life 2 and Return to Obra Dinn).

And now to things I am less proud of. I have 94 new games. NINETY FOUR. I feel like I’m buying just a bit too much games. Just a little bit…

So any new year resolutions? Couple. I want to finish some big games this year. Like Witcher 3, or Horizon Zero Dawn, or Mass Effect trylogy. Those things are really holding my backlog back. I’m also slowly preparing to the idea of making my family a bit bigger (not this year, but maybe next one…) and I feel that if I don’t finish those games now, I won’t finish them ever. Also, suprisingly I’m thinking about playing less. My books backlog was really bad this year, because I spent to much time on my PC. I need to figure out, how to bring together games, books, and, you know, real life. I will need to sit, check my whole backlog, and think, which games I want to play, and which I will abandon…

But - I don’t want to end on the sad note. It was a very good year, and mostly because I found this side. Really - I was searching for this for a long time - a small community of nice people, who just love gaming anf want to share their experience. I’m surely staying here for long time, so sorry guys, you are stuck with me :D

Happy Birthday, Aquilla! *confetti* Well, you seem to have a sensible head on your shoulders. Wanting to balance games with books with real life…that sounds like a great idea for all of us. And tackling a big game from the backlog is always satisfying. Even if it only “counts” for one game, it’s still a big accomplishment…otherwise it risks never getting played. I’ve never played any of the Mass Effect games and Witcher 2 is still in my backlog, along with a bunch of other games I’m itching to play!

I really enjoyed Dust also but don’t own / haven’t played the other games you mentioned.

And finally, good luck with adding to the family! My two kids are the light of my life and I can’t imagine a world without them. And now they’re getting old enough (8 yo) that I can really start playing some of these games with them!

Thank you very much. I’m over 30 so yeah… it’s time to think about it. But I’m still a bit afraid, cause it will be huuuge change in my life. At least I’m working in game industry so I will always have an excuse to play - for research purposes :)

Trent

Yeah, it is definitely a big change, and cuts into gaming. But it’s all worth it! And how cool to work in the game industry!

Aquilla

Very cool, but also a bit strange - I’m catching too much details in games and thinking too hard on “how did they do that” :D

Happy birthday and great to see you sticking around for a year. :D

And now to things I am less proud of. I have 94 new games. NINETY FOUR. I feel like I’m buying just a bit too much games. Just a little bit…

Aquilla

Thank you and yes, that’s my reaction.

Happy birthday!
January is a good time to think about plans for the year - games, reading… etc. I often do that.
I didn’t read a lot last year either. Only 6 books. I think I read 13-14 the year before. I use an app called ‘goodreads’ to log books (I guess it’s a bit like this site, but for books). They have a challenge for the year, so I’m aiming to read 12 books this year.
56 games is good for the year, well done. Hopefully 2020 will be another good year! :)

Aquilla

Thank you. I’m on Goodreads too, but I’m very passive there -I’m only scoring books. I read 22 book (including audiobooks), which is not a bad score, but a year before a read 42 books so it’s a major drop.
