7th Week of 2018 (Post 2. Better late than never!)

Hello again guys! I have finally finished (sort of, see below) the first two games from my backlog. I know I am a little late since I’ve said I will beat them by the end of January but welp, they were not as easy to beat as I expected!

So the first one is the one I’ve won on SG:

  • Knights of Pen and Paper +1

    33 hours playtime

    33 of 42 achievements

It was really fun to play and even challenging at times (I didn’t expect that). I’ve never played D&D but I really liked the references to the game, LotR and other stuff. Not much to say, I had a good time. Once I’m in a better situation with my backlog, I’ll probably play it once more to get all the achievements.

The second one - a gift from one of my friends:

  • 1931: Scheherazade at the Library of Pergamum

    29 hours playtime

    2 of 91 achievements

Well this is tough. I really tried to like the game and I really tried to finish it - as you can see it’s now in “Won’t Play” list - and I’ll tell you why. The idea of a visual novel + RPG + choose your own adventure seemed really cool at first…then I was hit right in the face by 4 major flaws of this game. I tried replaying it 2 or 3 times but with no luck, this game is just horrible. So the flaws:

  1. The Text/Story. It’s nice that in a game where the story is connected to archaeology they put a lot of historic references and even facts. However, there was just too much text in there. I don’t wanna spoil the actual story for those who’ll play the game but everything said/described in the game could have been said with fewer words. They are saying SO MUCH SHIT I was bored to death.
  2. The Interface. Why oh why. Why do I have to click like 7 different buttons to get one inspiration I need or one skill leveled up when I need to grab at least 4 inspirations to go for the next bit in the story?
  3. The Difficulty. Being a noob like me, I of course played on easy difficulty. Guess what. Easy difficulty is not easy at all. Further into the story, you start feeling that the difficulty in increasing way more than your character’s skills and it gets annoying. Moreover, as you get the skills/inspirations that should suffice to finish the next part of the story, you get like +3 stress from random events and it fucks everything up.
  4. MOST IMPORTANTLY The Protagonist. I could have endured all other flaws if not for this one. It’s an impossible person - she’s 18 year old who never acts her age. She’s either a genius who knows everything better than professors and her elders or a complete retard acting like the most stupid person on Earth. What is even worse - everyone likes her (of course, she’s a protagonist) but if she was a real person, everyone would hate her. She’s bragging, careless, ungrateful and intolerable. I’d bitch-slap her. Of course I couldn’t bond with her and I didn’t want her to succeed, as her success was always illogical and undeserved.
That’s it I guess. I do not recommend this game guys, man, it was horrible. I didn’t finish it and I won’t touch it again.

Now going further, I’ll continue to play one game I’ve won on SG (Pickers) and one gifted by my friends (The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav). I was late with the previous two but I still wanna pursue monthly milestones, therefore I’ve picked games which, I believe, will take less time to finish - so that I’m able to finish them by the end of February starting today.

  • Pickers

    2 hours playtime

    9 of 40 achievements

  • The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav

    2 hours playtime

    3 of 36 achievements

Thanks again everyone who posted useful links for post formatting under my previous post and for all your greetings!

I bought Scheherezade shortly after it came out because it had an unexpectedly good sale. On paper, I should have really liked it, but I quickly started to feel like I would need to follow a strict walkthrough to participate in anything in the game. I still planned to try to do at least one full playthrough at some point, but now you’re bringing back memories of a somewhat annoying and snobby protagonist…

She was the worst. I’ve never reached a part where she should start actually romancing one of the guys but as I played through 2 or 3 places (chapters?), I never understood how could she end up with one of them at the end of the game as she was completely oblivious to all compliments/remarks and seemed like she had nothing to offer them, except for maybe endless talks about how good she is at archaeology… What kind of character is that? It appears the authors never met an actual 18-year-old…
