Backlog Growth: +22

My collection has grown considerably this month! A perfect storm made of a lucky streak in Steam Giveaways, on top of a couple of inevitable sales and bundles. That on top of the usual weekly free backlog feeders.

Completed or Beaten (2)

I not only beat the Outer Wilds DLC, but the great experience also motivated me to have a go at all its achievements, and get past the frustration of the hardest achievements of the core game, until I completed them both.

DREDGE was a blast. Really got me in the rhythm and flow of its open world. Was just the kind of game I was looking for at this point in my life, especially to relax in the evenings, and to ease and lull my tired restless mind.

Zelrune

Congratulations on all of your assassinations! Your poor backlog… Looks like you had a great time this month! Dredge looks cool.

Thank you Zelrune! Yes, despite my whining, getting so many games to add to my library is actually a good problem to have. It’s just more to chose from to continue my life-long assassinations. :)

I really loved Dredge. It’s a pretty special and unique mix of a game. Let me know if you’d like to ask or know more about it, any time.

Outer Wilds and Dredge are both games I’m extremely interested in and plan to pick up on a good price (or win on SG, if I’m lucky). I’m mildly amused you found Dredge to be relaxing though :p

Also, the progress comparison between you first joined and now is neat, thank you and I’m totally stealing that!

Yekhus

Of course, steal away! I “stole” the idea from someone else, myself. That’s what’s nice about being in a community like this. We all inspire each other with new and fun ideas.

And I understand what amuses you about finding Dredge relaxing :). Granted, Dredge does have a very strong theme and tone of horror and mystery. But gameplay-wise, it was still overall very relaxing, because as a player, you have full control of when you take risks, and how high. And overall, I would estimate about 70% of the game to be pretty risk-free (and thus tension-free), if you take basic steps to mitigate those risks (favor daytime, take regular rests, etc.) You pick and know when you want to chase goals that require more tense/scary places/times,or just push things, or when you prefer to just explore more safely and more relaxed. And you also progressively reduce their danger and tension by gaining knowledge and upgrading your ship. So, while you can surely go more cozy in theme, this one is very mild on the scare/tension scale. At least that’s how I lived it.

The Outer Wilds DLC, in the other hand… that one has a few specific veeeery tense and scary parts. Top-notch terror right there for a non-horror game. But it’s 100% justified by the core theme of the game, so well worth “suffering” through, in the end :).

I feel your message strongly :D I’m still very much new here and getting familiar with everything, but I’m already enjoying my time here a lot, the sharing and inspiring aspects being the hugest factor.

I had no idea Dredge gives you that much control over what to do and when to do it, ditto about how horrifying Outer Wilds can be! What you shared definitely makes me more excited to try both.

Yekhus

Awesome! I’ll keep an eye on your updates, to see if/when you actually pick them up. I’m eager to hear how it goes, since it’s pretty likely you’ll have a blast with them.

I’m sure I’ll be excited to share my experience when I inevitably pick up/win both of them! :)
