Progress Report #36: May 2026
Monthly tally - Backlog: 8, Yekhus: 1
Total play time: 6h
This month came as a (much needed) clear turn. While still low on play time, I managed to break the no-play rut. And that was thanks to two generous SG friends, whose excellent game gifts kicked my butt back into action.
More importantly, I reframed my whole games backlog definition. Instead of adding absolutely every single game I own (including the monthly avalanche of free games I never heard of and will probably never try), I only add:
- 1) Games I actually intentionally acquired or ever actively intended or decide to play
- 2) All games won on SteamGifts.
It's the obvious explanation for the complete transformation in my stats, in case anyone noticed.
Hopefully that will align better with a realistic and healthy gaming hobby, and motivate me more effectively to assassinate a backlog I can actually take a stab at.
Special thanks to coleypollockfilet for their off the cuff, yet very insightful comment that sparked the inspiration for my reset idea.

Was very much in the mood for an old-style horror point and click, when this delicious SteamGift fell from the sky. Brings back enough sweet memories of Shadow Over Innsmouth, while having its own very strong character (as I would expect from Wadjet Eye).

The Excavation of Hob's Barrow
3.4h playtime
Added to collection (Steam) (7)
What an insane month on SteamGifts! I don't think I've ever won so many giveaways in a month, by far. Someone paranoid might see it as a conspiracy to compensate for my more restrictive backlog goals: "Oh yeah, SteamGifts are all backlog? Here you go. You're welcome." 😅

This report looks abysmal, but it's for 2 months instead of 1. Still, 2 months of virtually no play at all. And the deluge of free games does not stop. I just hope that I've touched bottom, and can end this "phase" in April and get back on the horse for good!

One little Borderlands 3 session on the side. After I finished the campaign with a couple of friends, whenever I want to just vibe and relax with some light-hearted shootin' 'n lootin', I open the game to take a bite at some left-over side mission.
