Progress Report #36: May 2026
Monthly tally - Backlog: 8, Yekhus: 1
Total play time: 6h
This month came as a (much needed) clear turn. While still low on play time, I managed to break the no-play rut. And that was thanks to two generous SG friends, whose excellent game gifts kicked my butt back into action.
More importantly, I reframed my whole games backlog definition. Instead of adding absolutely every single game I own (including the monthly avalanche of free games I never heard of and will probably never try), I only add:
- 1) Games I actually intentionally acquired or ever actively intended or decide to play
- 2) All games won on SteamGifts.
It's the obvious explanation for the complete transformation in my stats, in case anyone noticed.
Hopefully that will align better with a realistic and healthy gaming hobby, and motivate me more effectively to assassinate a backlog I can actually take a stab at.
Special thanks to coleypollockfilet for their off the cuff, yet very insightful comment that sparked the inspiration for my reset idea.

Was very much in the mood for an old-style horror point and click, when this delicious SteamGift fell from the sky. Brings back enough sweet memories of Shadow Over Innsmouth, while having its own very strong character (as I would expect from Wadjet Eye).
Added to collection (Steam) (7)
What an insane month on SteamGifts! I don't think I've ever won so many giveaways in a month, by far. Someone paranoid might see it as a conspiracy to compensate for my more restrictive backlog goals: "Oh yeah, SteamGifts are all backlog? Here you go. You're welcome." š
- Pacific Drive
- Unity of Command II (SG giveaway)
- Metal Slug X (SG giveaway)
- Streets of Rage 4 (SG giveway)
- Train Valley 2 (SG giveaway)
- The Excavation of Hob's Barrow (SG giveaway)
- Eldest Souls (SG giveaway)
Added to collection (GOG) (1)
- Pinball Spire

Congratz for this new restart ! Thatās a good way to do it (just add the games you wanna play)
Unity of Command 2, i donāt know if you like strategy game, but this one is really accessible, itās gold !
Thank you!
And I do love strategy games. I used to play them more, but I havenāt really played one at all in quite a while. Mainly because they usually take considerable time and dedication. So Iāll keep Unity of Command 2 in mind as an easy ramp to scratching that itch. Thanks for yet another golden tip!
I love UoC2 partly because itās turn-based and my slow brain fears real-time strategy games lol ! (Also because it has little units represented and an easy UI and gameplay, contrary to many elitist hexagonal strategy games)
Iām a big supporter of games that welcome and open to everyone the (as you very well said) elitist world of strategy games. Iāve always had a special place in my heart for a french tabletop board game called āMemoirā 44ā, which distilled the wargame genre to a very simple, approachable, fun and attractive board game.
