June 2026
I forgot that there wasn’t a June 31 lol. Almost posted this in July. Anyway.
Summerhouse: I’m way too uncreative for this game. I also felt like it was a bit limiting but then I checked the screenshots over in its community page and other people made really great things, so might’ve been a me-problem. 6/10.
Little Nightmares: What a gorgeous, amazing game this was. Very atmospheric and creepy. While I did find it scary, I don’t think I ever got so scared that I didn’t want to open it. Although I’m not sure if that’s because I’ve watched some streamers play it (+DLC and sequel) before. That was years ago though and I didn’t actually remember as much as I thought I did. The constant checkpoints might’ve also helped. Part of why I get really scared with horror games is because of the loss of progress and backtracking when you die so I just freeze up and pause the game whenever there is danger. I hated the forced controller rumble though, there’s no in-game settings to turn it off and turning off game rumble in my Steam settings didn’t work (in hindsight, I might’ve needed to turn on Steam input or something). I really just dislike rumble, it doesn’t do anything for me and it just makes the controller drain its battery faster. I have nothing bad to say about the game itself though. 10/10.
Heavy Rain: I’m one of the people who unironically loved Detroit: Become Human. Not just Connor’s route, but Kara and Markus’ too. Even with Heavy Rain being way worse than DBH, I still had fun. Until the plot twist. Gonna put everything in spoiler tag as it’s hard to talk about this without spoiling it. I draw a line at the game lying to the players. That was the worst “unreliable narrator” trope I’ve ever seen, if you can even call it that. I’m sure there were other ways to do it without having to resort to just lying and giving the user false information because Cage can’t figure out how to make his shitty plot twist work. 2/10.
Pentiment: I’m not a religious person and I also don’t know much about history, and yet I absolutely loved this game. I don’t think I was ever bored except maybe in the beginning when it was introducing a lot of characters and setting the world up. I also tend to be wary of things that have religious themes since it’s hard to know at first if it’s just meant to try and convert the audience, but this game was not that at all. I think both religious and non-religious people can enjoy this game, even more so if you love history. Every character has their own beliefs and I don’t think it was ever really forced upon you. You can push back on certain things or lean into them if you want to. It just feels like a very human game, most characters were nuanced. There were only a few characters that were genuinely unlikable. And I like seeing how your choices affect people’s lives. The art and OST were fantastic as well. 10/10, probably the best game I’ve played this year thus far, not counting replays. I’m really glad to have won this game over at SteamGifts.
The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante: I didn’t enjoy this game as much as I was hoping to. While I felt that the supernatural aspect made it more unique, the story itself felt boring to me. I don’t know if me just having finished Pentiment affected my enjoyment of this one. Pentiment was really just such a phenomenal game/story but anyway, I was pretty close to dropping this one. I actually ended up looking into the different routes of the game and spoiling myself a bit. The rebel/Lotless route sounded fun so I decided to restart my save and intentionally went for Lotless instead of trying to be a noble. I stopped taking the game seriously and read some of the boring parts faster. Doing those made my experience better so 5/10.
Dishonored 2 (replay + 100%): I did 3 playthroughs. High Chaos Emily, No Powers Corvo, and NG+ Corvo (from the High Chaos Emily save) for the Possession and 60% loot achievement. My favorite experience was the NG+, love having access to both powers. I’ll probably just stick to playing as Emily in the future though. The main story seems to fit her more. Speaking of the main story, it’s the worst thing about this otherwise amazing game IMO. It was just boring and underwhelming considering how great the lore and worldbuilding is. I also dislike the pacing and how the missions were ordered. I feel like it was a bit too random. For example, I think the Crown Killer stuff should’ve been a bigger subplot instead of being done by the third mission. That said, the game itself was great. It was really fun to run around and find different ways to progress through an area. I don’t think I was ever bored even though I’ve played this game four times by now. Having no powers was a fun experience too and it wasn’t as hard as I was expecting. As for my favorite levels, it’s Dust District and A Crack in the Slab, though my favorite story-wise would be The Good Doctor (I don’t think I can ever get myself to kill Dr. Hypatia even on a high chaos run).
Honestly, it’s really just the main story dragging it down for me. It’s hard for me to separate the gameplay from the story because of how interesting the world of this game is. It’s not like Hitman: World of Assassination where even though I have 121.4 hours on that game, I can’t tell you a single thing about its main story. I’ve never understood what it was really about and I just stopped paying attention. It just feels completely separate from the gameplay, so I am able to ignore it and still give the game a 10/10. For Dishonored 2, though, I think I’ll stick with the 8/10 rating I gave it last month. I was thinking of bumping it to 9 but it didn’t feel right. I am looking forward on playing the first Dishonored game again, managed to grab it during the Steam sale because it was 90% off for the GOTY edition.

Goals for July 2026
Mostly gonna focus on Our World is Ended and Starpoint Gemini 2. I liked the gameplay loop of SG2 but it’s being a bit of a slog, I’m not really paying attention to the story of the campaign so I’m kind of rushing it now. OWiE is fine, I like the characters even with some of the typical “anime bullshit” I’ve had to make myself ignore. Probably gonna beat that first before I start Danganronpa 2. I’m really excited to start my second playthrough of Pentiment though. Probably gonna 100% that and RE4R. I don’t pay much attention to Hosted Games/Choice of Games releases anymore so I’ve completely missed that Zombie Exodus: Safe Haven had finally released Part 4. If you’re not familiar with HG/CoG games, sequels (which are actually continuation of a story instead of typical game sequels with new stories/characters) take years to release, part of why I’ve left the community, the waiting was too much. I’m excited to get into ZESH again though, it’s one of the best HG/CoG games IMO.
