Side note

That’s late update  But mostly because I was away for 2 weeks visiting my parents.

I played Warcraft III while being there and didn’t like it. Mostly because of unit awful path finding. My PC there has AMD Athlon CPU so running any game on it now is a miracle. That’s why I was impressed how well Frostpunk work on it - only when city is fully built game started to lag behind. But I could not make Unravel 2 work on it, must be some issue with CPU and media codecs.

Huh, it is really interesting to see this compared to Stardew Valley to be honest :-D

To this day, I still think that Stardew Valley doesn’t deserve the amount of praise it gets. Yes, it is really cute, fun to play etc. etc., but most of its players haven’t played the original Harvest Moon. I did, and I really liked it, and when it came to Stardew… It’s fun and everything, but I don’t really want to play the same game I did before :D
Even quite some textures are a complete ripoff from it.. I wouldn’t call it just “inspiration”…

But to get back to the original point, I think you wanted to get something completely different out of the game. Spiritfarer isn’t the kind of game you would compare to Stardew - yes, it does have some similar elements, but the whole feel, the meaning behind it - it is a totally different experience :-D

Here, you just have to go with the flow. It is the kind of game you would pick up after a long day, just to relax a bit. I played it through with this kind of mindset, and I really, really liked it. I got really emotional sometimes too :) ! But, of course, we are different, and this is the most beautiful thing in life!

I compared it to Stardew as it’s also few actions that you repeat over and over again. Stardew is more complex that’s for sure, as mechanics in Spiritfarer are barebone. You have combat in mines, complex relationships with NPCs, more to build etc. in Stardew. Still it’s just really repetitive gameplay, like some farming simulator.

I did play Stardew and gave up after few hours. I didn’t enjoy the whole experience.

With Spiritfarer I thought it’s about talking to spirits, learn their story and help them to deal with unfinished business. Not craft around ship and run around map to hoard resources to upgrade ship. So yeah, bad expectations :P
