September and October play log

I’m pretty sure I won’t be able to beat more games with how busy I’m going to be this month, so here’s the new post. Last two months were pretty good in term of gaming, I finished quite a few games I enjoyed.

After many years I finally remembered that I have games I actually wanted to play on Origin. I had my eyes on this game for a long time because of all the praises it's gotten. It really deserves those praises, because it's a damn good game. Great atmosphere, very scary despite the dated graphics. I was so scared and paranoi, I had to take breaks between sessions to calm myself down, and somehow I still managed to finish it. Unfortunately the last level and the final boss was pretty weak, it's a let down but thankfully not enough to drag the whole game. I'm very excited to play the sequel whenever I get the chance.

Nice little puzzle platformer with pretty graphic, but everything else fell short. The puzzles are mainly timing based, there's not much variety in level designs and it gets repetitive towards the end. The music and story is pretty generic, I feel like there is potential but the pacing was so rushed for such a short game it was never realized.

I like surrelistic story, especially if you put in elements of cyberpunk and artificial intelligence. I find a lot of concepts in this game intriguing, the mold, the alternating timelines, the historical stories… Too bad it's put together into a quite incomprehensive mess, and not in a good way. The terrible translation makes it almost unplayable if it wasn't so short.

I'm not a fan of rogue-like in general but I quite enjoyed this. I love post-apocalyptic settings and this one, though bare-boned, is still interesting as you can meet survivors and learn more about the world before and after the disaster. There is quite a few bugs, though non game breaking or too annoying. It's hard at the beginning until you get more supplies, then gameplay gets pretty repetitve. You just sail to different places which you don't need to stay too long at as you can survive pretty well on limited supplies with an upgraded raft, different areas are very similar except for a few lay out details and enemies. I think this game would work a lot better for me if they get rid of the rouge-like elements and focus more on the setting and story.

Like ABZU it's an artsy puzzle game with no dialogue, and it's just as beautiful. Wonderful game in every sense, it got me crying like a baby at the end. Though I don't like how they put so much story in the collectibles; for example the theme isn't really clear before the ending if you don't find the keyholes, and you may not even know the mother existed at all if you don't get the white shades. I feel like they are both pretty crucial to the pacing and if you just go straight through the game without seeking for extra contents the twist would be abrupt and not work as well.

Generic shooter game which is generic in everything: story, enemies, gameplay etc. The only good thing about this is that it's short.

I have never played Of Orcs And Men so I don't know the context of the setting, but since this is the prequel I imagine you don't need to do so to enjoy it. I haven't played much stealth in general so this game was hard for me, and I'm pretty sure this game is in the more pure stealth side given how lackluster the combat is and how easy it is for Styx to die. There are many alternative paths to progress and they gives you plenty of hiding spots, unless you get lost because of the similar level designs and the lack of map which happened to me so many times. I quite liked the story, though clone Styx's motivation would work a lot better if he didn't treat his own clones as expendable.

It’s my birthday next week, here’s a train of HOG games for anyone who want them.

Thank you for the reviews, quite a few games I have/had my eye on. Yeah, Dead Space is a real classic, but after watching some videos I decided not to play it…too scary for me :D Glad that you enjoyed it though!

Good luck in the next weeks. I hope they will still be enjoyable though stressful.

Dead Space is definitely not for the easily scared, pretty sure the only reason I made it through was that I played it in the mornings XD. Thank you! I’m trying hard to make it work.

Happy birthday, msboring27! I really enjoyed RiME. I made some attempt to get collectibles, etc., but didn’t use a guide and missed plenty of them. I saw the keyholes but never realized how I was supposed to interact with them until toward the very end of the game! So yeah, I missed lots of the story, which is too bad. Fun game.

I’m the kind of person to wander around in games whenever I the chance to so I managed to get all the keyholes in my first playthrough, it was when I watched a LP where the Youtuber missed most of the collectibles that I realized how confusing some aspects of the game must be if you just stick to the main path. The game is still great if you do, but the extra stuff makes it a lot better.
