Two more games of ABC challange done :) Current progress 4/27 :D

LIMBO

LIMBO

12 of 13 achievements (92%) 3 hrs playtime

Great game. Loved playing it. It is great puzzle platformer game with no text, no dialogs and nothing explained what is happening, but with great sound, design and atmosphere. While moving though this black and white world you occasionally collect some eggs, not sure why apart from getting achievements and unlocking secret level, and i found all but one on first playthough. Secret level was cool, relaying on sound only in some occasions was though but interesting. Dying in this game is normal thing, died many times just for fun to see how it would look :D And one thing i am sure about is that i won’t be getting 100% since there is no way to force myself to play this game with less than 5 deaths :)

Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna)

Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna)

19 of 19 achievements (100%) 4 hrs playtime

Another interesting puzzle platformer, but … This game is beautiful, design is lovely, story is great, learning about Iñupiat culture and lore is interesting, watching all those insight videos is cool and playing first level is amazing, but unfortunately after that it gets frustrating. Controls can be unresponsive, getting stuck and falling though spirits is a common thing, moving spirits around and flying/swimming is clunky… You control little girl Nuna and her white fox, you switch between them to pass various puzzles and it can be played in co-op. As you are playing as one character AI fallows you as second and while that sometimes works great, a lot of times it doesn’t… AI occasionally misses some basic jumps or is getting stuck. Dying is not fun as in LIMBO, since each time you have to wait for camera to move to other character and show them crying, and you die a lot not by your mistake.

I’ve got Limbo in my library but I’m afraid it’s going to be too much “horror” for me. Is it really scary or is it just the atmosphere?

Trent

Mostly atmosphere…dark and scary, etc. But there are a couple of what I’ll generically call “monsters” that can be “scary.” They don’t just want to chat with you. Also, some of the death visuals are explicit (although it’s all grayscale so it’s not like you really see “blood.”)

Watch the Steam trailer and screenshots and you’ll get a pretty good idea of it.

kiseli

Like Trent already said it is mostly atmosphere. Black&white and good sound make most of it, there are various monsters but nothing scary in my opinion. Although deaths show a lot, but in these types of games you have to die anyway.

Blue Ϟ Lightning

Limbo isn’t scary at all its just dark and twisted…Inside on the other hand…that game is terrifying

Trent

3h44m is pretty darn good for 12/13 achievements…well done!

kiseli

Thanks :)
Figuring out what to do wasn’t hard most of the time and with good responsive commands it is easy to correct your mistakes. Only had to check guide about location of one egg and where the secret level is. And playing that one in almost complete dark was cool :D

That’s such a relief to hear about LIMBO! I recently played INSIDE and thought the gameplay / platforming was so smooth and responsive. Was such a relief, as I’ve played several clunky, unresponsive platformers lately. Great to hear that their original game is just as slick, glad you enjoyed it. :)

And I totally feel you with Never Alone. It’s gorgeous, love the setting and the lore is what intrigued me to begin with but I’ve had such a hard time picking it back up. There were definitely a couple frustrating, clunky scenes. I have 71 minutes played and I’d like to finish it…I keep telling myself I’m going to. But even my brother (who I co-op’d it with) hasn’t felt any desire to complete it either, which is a shame. And honestly playing it with him made it much more enjoyable than it would’ve been solo.

kiseli

LIMBO is really great and everything worked perfectly :) So it is normal for their next game to be great too :D I plan on playing it one day, have the key on HB but didn’t activate it yet :)

If Never Alone wasn’t such a beautiful game with great story i guess i wouldn’t have finished it. Also as part of my ABC challenge i wasn’t in a mood to search for a new game to replace it. And once it got too frustrating i stopped playing it and went to sleep, so in the morning when i continued playing it looked great again. Not sure how to explain that, but i guess one night break helped :D If i had to get back to it after long time, like you do, i probably couldn’t force myself either.

JaffaCaffa

I really hope you enjoy INSIDE when you get to it!

Yeah it is a perfect shorter game for N, I put it on my ABC challenge as well for an extra push….but then I played Nidhogg and swapped it out. :P I can see where taking a break would help, let you reset and appreciate the world again. I’ll do the same eventually. :) Anyways happy backlog killing, hope you enjoy your next game!

kiseli

I hope i will enjoy it once i get to it :)

Swapping games is cheating :P J/k, but in this case i understand it completely :) And i did enjoy my next game, beating Rollers of the Realm was fun :D

JaffaCaffa

Haha I knew I’d prob want to swap out games so I set very few rules in advance. :P

Oh nice! I actually had my eye on that game, looked like a fun take on pinball. Glad to hear. :D

kiseli

I have similar “rules” as well, but in this case didn’t want to switch games :)

It is nice game, cool concept but grindy if you aim for 100% which i don’t :D

Blue Ϟ Lightning

Inside is so much better than Limbo.
Id say the original was just as responsive but due to how its set up its not quite as smooth. like you have to deal with some timed jumps while sliding down things and gross maneuvering…however for a first game it was still pretty good.

JaffaCaffa

Ah yeah makes sense. I was honestly expecting that going into INSIDE, as most platformers have those timed, slightly finicky jumps. I normally don’t mind it too much (depending how bad the controls are), but thanks for the heads up. :)

Blue Ϟ Lightning

Seeing as how you liked limbo I would definitely check out inside if you ever have a chance!
Its really good idk

scarry tho

Nice progress on your ABC list!

kiseli

I have the key for INSIDE on HB, didn’t activate it yet. But planning on playing some other games first :)

ABC list is going slowly, but i plan on completing them all one day :D

miroe250

I think I already spotted someone suggesting INSIDE, thought I’m gonna add extra credit to this masterpiece. Inside for me was 10 times better than Limbo, Playdead really outperformed themselves with Inside, oh gosh I beleive it become one of my all time favorite games. Please activate the key for it and just play it :)

kiseli

I plan on playing it, just don’t know when yet ^_^ And since i heard it has even better sound/atmosphere then LIMBO i am waiting till i buy new headphones, which should be these days/weeks :)

Kap

I know I’ll sound like another echo in here, but since you loved Limbo and already have a key for INSIDE, it’s a must-play. I can’t wait to see what Playdead comes out with next. :)

kiseli

I guess i will play it soon. Got new headphones so i can enjoy it more :D And sadly injured my leg, so sitting home in front of PC most of the day, for the next ~2 weeks :)

Kap

Oh, ouch! Well, at least you can make the most out of the situation and get some gaming in. :P

What’s a genre of music that you like? Maybe I can recommend a song to try out the new headphones.

kiseli

Nothing too serious, just sprained ankle. But still have to rest for a while… So watching movies/TV shows and playing games ^_^

I mostly listen to rock, but over the years i found out that good things and good no matter what genre :D

Kap

I don’t listen to a lot of rock these days, but this was a great performance for the horns and especially those incredible drums! :)
Dave Matthews - Grey Street (live in Lisbon)

kiseli

Never heard of them and i must say they do sound great :D Gonna check their other songs ^_^
