Update 144: April 2025

Still unsure of where the time is going. There must be a black hole gobbeling it all up.

Half-Life 2

Jumanji: Wild Adventures

7/10
6.7 hours

An improvement over the last Jumanji game, this one’s actually fun to play and gives off strong 90s platformer vibes. It’s not very challenging, which makes it accessible, but some powers feel a bit useless and the game doesn’t always make it clear where to go. The full price feels a bit steep, but if you catch it on sale, it’s worth jumping into. I played solo, so I can’t speak for the co-op experience.

Half-Life 2

Spirit Hunter: Death Mark

7.5/10
27.6 hours

A solid horror mystery visual novel with some light, timed decision-making. The first chapter sets a chilling tone, but the horror elements taper off in later chapters. The story and investigation mechanics are still engaging, though. I did run into some random crashes — possibly specific to my PC — which became frustrating since you can only save at the manor, not during investigations. That, combined with no option to speed through text, makes it a bit tedious.

Half-Life 2

Isle of Arrows

6.5/10
9.3 hours
1 of 9 achievements

A creative twist on tower defense that mixes in board game mechanics, but the heavy reliance on RNG can really drag it down. If you get unlucky with your card draws, you’re basically out of options — and that makes the 40-wave runs feel more like a gamble than a test of skill. The achievements don’t help either, often pushing you to do things that conflict with actually surviving, like building massive lakes or absurdly long roads. Fun in short sessions, but frustrating if you're aiming to win consistently.

Half-Life 2

Era of Miracles

2/10
5.5 hours
no achievements

A broken mess that barely qualifies as a game. Not sure what game all these positive reviewers have played. Around a quarter of it isn’t even translated, and what is translated feels like it was run through a bad version of Google Translate — making quest instructions confusing or completely unreadable. Random Cyrillic phrases pop up all over, and the lack of map markers makes it easy to forget where any quest came from. And then there’s the combat: hitboxes are so unreliable that attacks often don’t register at all. It’s frustrating, unfinished, and hard to recommend in any state. You can also check out the bad translations in the many screenshots I posted.

Half-Life 2

Stranded Sails - Explorers of the Cursed Islands

8/10
18.5 hours
15 of 28 achievements

Stranded Sails - Explorers of the Cursed Islands is a charming blend of farming, exploration, and survival gameplay. In the early stages, farming can feel a bit tedious since you're limited to working on only one plot at a time. However, as you progress and unlock upgrades, it becomes much more manageable—allowing you to water nine plots simultaneously, which streamlines the farming experience. Exploration is enjoyable, adding a sense of adventure to the game. The combat system is quite simplistic and doesn't present much of a challenge, but it doesn't significantly detract from the overall enjoyment. Despite some minor pacing issues early on, I found myself really appreciating the relaxing atmosphere, cute visuals, and satisfying gameplay. Overall, a fun and engaging game for fans of farming and exploration genres.

Here are the games I'm currently working on. Reviews will follow once I'm done with the games:
I've won 9 games and 3 DLC's and bought another game for myself. I've beaten 5 games, so that makes a total of +5 for the month of April. So my yearly count is at +16 games. I did not beat a game that is at least 10+ years old, so my count on beaten old games is still at +4 for the year. Still on track to beat at least 12 10+ year old games this year.

Moony1986

Good luck for your monthly plan. Hope time does not get sucked away again 😱

But I really wonder what a game has to do to get 0 stars if even Era of Miracles gets 2 😂

samwise84

Well it runs, so that’s one star and it doesn’t crash, that is another one.

Zelrune

Congratulations on your assassinations~! ᓚᘏᗢ
oooh playing Dragons Dogma, what class did you end up going with? Also, congrats on winning The Cub! I think you would like it.

samwise84

Thanks Zel, and yeah I have to get back to Dragons Dogma to finish the DLC content. We’ll see if I can find the time this month. And yeah The Cub looks really enjoyable. Looking forward to it.

Trent

Did you try the co-op in Jumanji: Wild Adventures by any chance?

samwise84

No, sorry did not try coop. Though the solo experience was fun
