The Danganronpa series are a masterpiece!
Even the prequel novel I read made me tear up at work! The lore of the series is truly amazing and I would consider it to be unmatched and of the richest stories/lores ever.
I’m sad that Danganronpa V3 isn’t on sale for the lunar year. And that’s the only thing I need to be update with everything, but reviews say that the ending ruined the ending, so I’m a little worried.

Anyone here tried them out recently? Please share your thoughts!

Danganronpa is my fave series of VN’S V3 is great so far but only done prologue and chapter 1.

Shax

Did you read the novel and watch the anime as well?

Ally

Seen the animes but not read any books or manga.

I finished Dangan Ronpa V3, and while I can definitely see WHY people didn’t like the ending - it was technically well done, but a huge narrative risk - I personally loved it. You can read my DRV3 review here.

I haven’t partaken in anything other than the mainline games - I guess because largely things like the anime/manga adaptations are just the same story in shorter formats. I think I started reading the prequel novel and then stopped - I just don’t particularly like light novels, for some reason. Maybe I read a bad translation, but the writing was pretty clunky.

Danganronpa 3’s anime is a whole story by itself. half serves as a prequel for the 77th class and the sequel goes directly after the events of danganronpa 2. It was extremely well made.
I watched the anime adaptation of the first game, and that just butchered all the investigations.
I highly recommend reading the novel, but it isn’t that vital to the story.
I couldn’t wait for a sale so I just bought it at full price. Which I never do. Let’s hope for the best with the ending, I’ll keep an open mind.

Just finished the game. I guess I understand the ending, but I didn’t really like it. I guess this means the end of the Danganronpa series, for it to just completely dismiss the events of the universe as a whole basically. I guess they’re going for a completely new ip. I loved the series but I guess it is better than being abandoned all together

Yeah, I’d be very surprised if they went back on this pretty huge ‘THIS IS THE END’ declaration.

I’m a sucker for meta narratives, so I enjoyed the mindfuck the ending had been. I understand the kind of ‘c’mon, man!’ of hearing that all the events weren’t really real… but 1. they were real for the characters going through it, which dodges the bullshit ‘it was all a dream/nothing was at stake’ pitfall, and 2. it was never real in the first place, because dangan ronpa is a video game.

To an extent, someone making a violent video game, advertising it as a killing game video game, and then shaming you for buying it/enjoying it is pretty fucking annoying, but I think Dangan Ronpa V3 had some really good points to make about what narratives humanity loves to tell, and the kind of emotional release we get from these harrowing stories and what that says about us. I found value in stepping outside myself and asking ‘why DO I want to experience narratives like this?’ valuable. I think the ending fits into the series if you view it as a ‘what’s the least expected thing that could happen?’ roller coaster - there ain’t no bigger drop than this.

Also I really enjoyed seeing everyone pop up again, that was a trip!

Shax

Definitely Agree to all your points.
I guess I’m just craving much more from the series. And everyone else so, but in hindsight it’s better to stop while you’re ahead right? I’m talking out of my ass Idk

tsupertsundere

No, I don’t think you are! I get that feeling - and while it’s a negative one, at least it’s a positive negative one to have, right? Better to die a hero… etc? c;

Shax

Yea I do have mixed feelings about it. A positive negative one let’s say.

But holy crap was the whole thing so meta!
Did you notice the tease to UGD2 at the start of the game?

tsupertsundere

I did! I still need to play the first one.
