NORTH and 35MM, both are sg wins.
Played both in a short span of time; NORTH because I’m trying to have at least one game in the Completed section of every month in this post; 35MM because it’s also a Playing Appreciated win.
Why are they together? Well, that’s partly because they are both kind of walking simulator but mainly because they had a negative effect on me and I was very tempted to drop them many times. I endured though, because I wasn’t sure it was the games’ fault, could also have been due to the fact that I wasn’t used anymore to play for so many hours. Doesn’t change the fact that other games I’ve played at the same time didn’t give me any side effect.

It’s short and has no achievement, so you can focus on the story, no detours (not that there is any, even if one wanted to). I think it took me longer than the average ‘cause I had missed the elevator and couldn’t progress. Read a guide that mention it and so I was able to progress.
From the store I got a completely different idea of this game, I was expecting something “lighter”. See how colourful the “logo” is? Forget it!
Atmosphere is dark and heavy, which I have to say it fits the game but it gave me a sense of oppression and uneasiness, that I felt throughout the whole game. Again, it all fits the story, but I wasn’t in a situation where I could enjoy it. Maybe also partly because I think the story is somewhat related to the real life, reminding me in which kind of sick world we are living, and this helped making me feel bad.
Strangely, the window’s title is not NORTH but Panopticon, perhaps its original name.. maybe they changed it because it would have given away the game’s theme too much.
I don’t think it’s a good game but, given how short it is, I think everyone should give it a try, perhaps it could make think about life stuff you never did before. If you like dystopian stuff, you may like it, even if there may be nothing new to you.

Longer, description sounded kind of cool so I wanted to try it.
I can say that the idea behind is good but is not implemented very well :\
First of all, speed movement: s l o o o o w .
If you run too much you get exhausted and move slower than slow for a while. problem is that there’s no stamina bar, so you have to guess your fatigue :\
Your partner never run. If you go too far/forward you have to wait ages for him to come.
Another thing I didn’t like was the lighting system: nightly/dark places were too dark. To the point that they hurt my eyes. Couldn’t discern a thing, had to take breaks to rest my eyes from that strain. Did any of you had the same issue? Trying to understand if it’s the game badly made or if it’s just some incompatibility with my laptop.
Apart these negative aspects, the story can be more or less enjoyable; a bit chaotic but it fits the theme.
Pretty sure I’m forgetting something (either positive/noegative) but I played it more than a month ago.. forgive my faulty memory :v

I have been wanting to try North too, even though the reviews are mixed, because the story sounds “interesting” (or like you said close to reality). I’m glad to read it’s that short maybe i can squeeze it between 2 longer games I’m playing for challenges.

About 35MM I had the same reasons to play, and pretty much the same feeling/issues after playing it. The part that annoyed me the most was the part where you need to kill statues in the metro area as the first time I ran out of ammo and had no way to do anything but let myself die. I was surprised by the ending though.

malabagaa

Yup, if you have a spare hour you can squeeze in it :)

That, and the dogs one. =P
For the station, I actually watched a video before understanding that ammo respawn after a while (or after you’ve been far enough.. don’t know).
Also, may I ask you which ending you got?

EvilBlackSheep

Oh boi, yes the dogs/wolves one when you drop in the sewers I assume. I think in general the gun fight was quite bad, but it’s ok since it’s not really the point of the game.
I got the ending that unlocks the cheevo called “The past is always with us”. I reached the old apartment where you use to live with your wife and kid, and then you realize that companion you started the adventure with was responsible for the death of both of them ;___; . I wonder what the other endings look like.

malabagaa

Yes, that one.
I also agree about the gunfights being bad.. they could have been excluded with little to no impact over the final game.

Oh, the same as me (it’s in the game info on the right, but you have to click it to bring it “on focus” since it shows NORTH’s one by default).
I guess it’s the most common as, from what I’ve read, it lies in between the other two: one is basically a “speedrun” (intended as “do nothing more than what’s necessary to finish the game”, not time based) and the other one can be seen as “completionist”.

EvilBlackSheep

To be honest I was gonna go for all 3 endings, but when i finished my first playthrough I had a small moment of considering to have to replay the gunfight scenes and i was like “meeeeeeeh no. Will see that later”.
