Two small but very lovely games
Refunct
8/10
What a lovely little game. It took me half an hour to beat it but it was time well spent. It’s a simple 3d platformer, with a single map which is getting bigger and bigger the longer you play. It simple, but cute, the controls are very nice, there are multiple paths to reach every goal. I’ve bought it for a couple of cents on Summer Sale and it was definietely a good purchase.
The Beginner's Guide
8/10
It’s a game for monthly Ruby Theme
Wow… What an experience. It is barely a game, there are no challenges, one very easy riddle which is reused multiple times. But the story is so interesting. I don’t want to spoil it, so I don’t say anything beside that it’s a kind of mockumentary. It remind me a bit of Dear Esther - no gameplay, just walking and listening to narrator. It took me less than 2 hours to finish it, so I’m not going to recommend it for full price, but if there will be sale - this is really interesting piece of code.
The Beginner’s Guide went on my wishlist after I found it and saw it’s from the makers of Stanley Parable. I loved that game. Glad it’s good, I may pick it up in the next sale. But for 1-2 hours playtime definitely not full price.
It has some similarity to Stanley in its forth wall breaking, good writing, weirdness etc. But it’s MUCH more serious and it is not playing with player like Stanley. It’s just telling a story.
