I can't believe this game is free when there's utter garbage being sold out there. Granted, it's quite short, but really beautiful and the stories are great!

Yup, that’s why I haven’t bought a Steam game since 2018. Am I missing out on some good games? Absolutely, but I never have to worry about accidentally buying a bad game, and there are plenty of good free games to occupy my time with instead.
Although my situation is quite opposite (ever growing backlog), I completely understand your point. Even though I have a huge library I sometimes venture into free games like this one, there are some gems out there without a price tag.
