May Final Report

#900 was Among the Sleep, one of my favorite games that I played back in 2015. You play as a toddler looking for his mother and wander through scenes inspired by childhood fears. Sometime after I finished it the first time, the developer added in collectable achievements. I finally went back and replayed it and it has held up pretty well.

My husband and I started and finished LEGO® Jurassic World. We liked this one better than LEGO Marvel Superheroes. It's kind of weird because we have a much greater connection to the Marvel characters (not to mention all the cool abilities in Marvel), where we don't know the Jurassic characters at all. With few exceptions, we went through most of the game saying we needed 'poop girl' or 'a screamer'. Marvel's levels felt too long, but Jurassic World's levels felt just right. It was also great to be able to enter levels at any subsection when we were cleaning up minikits on Freeplay. On the other hand, at the end of Marvel, I still wanted to just explore and wander around New York. The world of it was fantastic. Jurassic World is much more on rails, feels much smaller, and each little island feels very similar. I don't feel the need to go back to it. I also have to commend them on making flying and swimming feel distinct and different in Jurassic World. I'm pretty decent at Lego flying and it did not directly translate over to swimming.

When I felt like playing a hidden object game this month, I really should have just loaded up an Artifex Mundi. Showing Tonight: Mindhunters Incident by phime studio is one of the worst 'hidden object' games I've ever played. (There are only 3 standard HO scenes in the entire game, which are each revisited in the epilogue.) What it has more of are silhouette scenes, which are strictly timed if you want 100%. (I did not make it in time.) The plot is even flimsier than usual and most of what you are trying to do is just get your car to the next area. And then it has you do incredibly illogical things like dissolve sunglasses in acid so you can apply (acidic) 'UV coating' to an improvised space helmet (made of a fishbowl!). At several points, you are required to play an arcade game. I'll admit that these were doable, but when I encountered the spaceship one, it felt incredibly unfair. (Your only control is a brake. The ship moves unpredictably along a fixed path.)

Other:

  • My standard co-op group has started Pandemic Legacy (Season 1) on Tabletop Simulator. This is perhaps my favorite board game. The other couple is blind, but this will be our fourth time through.
  • PUSH was a nice little puzzle game.
  • Started a new incremental game: PickCrafter.
  • It's not a particularly good game (it does weird things with fractions), but I wrote a walkthrough guide for Genius Calculator, a math puzzler, and also finally published the Lantern guide that I started months ago (just had to choose/edit/upload screencaps).
  • I finished 5 SteamGifts wins for the May theme, "The Grateful Assassins": 1 from April (Game Corp DX) and 4 from this month (1,000 Heads Among the Trees; Qvabllock; ArcBall; HUBE: Seeker of Achievements)

IMO those get 10k achievements for starting games diluted meaning of achievements whatsoever. When it’s no longer achievement to get them xD

skanda

Agreed. It’s just a random number when you can get 5000 achievements in one minute and it’s definitely not gaming.

Errise

Yeah, I was proud of having a high 100% count with a low achievement count. Two months ago, I was at 40k achievements/700 perfect. There was a bit of minor spam, but I didn’t do the 1k+ stuff. I resisted as long as I could. Then, I got trapped and now that I’m in, I figure I might as well be in…

Gratz on 500k and 900! :O
And huge backlog progress. I actually got curious about “关于我被小学女生绑架这件事” and looked up a playthrough of it. Quite interesting I must say. :P But it’s in all Chinese tho, curious about did you do it for the achievements or can you actually understand Chinese? :3

Errise

Just for the 100%. :P I wouldn’t say it looks that great from my ‘playthrough’ (in that it looks like the sort of thing that I would skip through even if I could read it; I do actually read VNs sometimes) and the title google-translates to “About me being kidnapped by elementary schoolgirls”, so… yeah.
