Highway Blossoms is SOOOOO good!
I loved this visual novel so much. It's got everything a dreamer needs... adventure, romance, laughs, DRAAAMMAAA. It helps that I'm a girl who likes girls like the couple in the story. I'm not sure when was the last time I smiled so much. Not like the smiling I do most of the time that's just kind of because I'm supposed to but like legit no fucks given how silly I look smiling. It's kinda funny because I installed the adult patch, but I almost wish I didn't because it almost felt weird after getting so engrossed in the romance. After reading this story, I want to do my own exploring. I can't afford to go on a big trip or anything but there's so many state parks I haven't seen, and now I want to see them! Who knows, maybe I'll even find my own Marina, someone that loves life so much and doesn't take anything for granted.
If there's any VN, yuri, or just adventure story lovers out there, please let me know if there are any other games like this game! I'd love to pick them up while they are on sale.
Hell yeah! I’m really excited to hear this - I’ve had highway blossoms for a while and I’m glad it’s good.
I really like VNs, adventures stories, AND girl love so maybe I can help you out a bit here - if you go into my page and pick ‘a special place in my heart’ those are all the games that really resonated with me, a good amount of those fitting the bill.
From a quick glance at my completed log:
Asphyxia - VN, yuri, school travelling slice of life with a lot of FEELINGS. Very British
Hatoful Boyfriend / Hatoful Boyfriend Holiday Star - VN, otome, school life where you date pigeons. This game is so good but I cant’ tell you why or how thou must discover for yourself
Higurashi vol 1.- 5 out on steam, with another 3 installments coming - VN, not romance-focused, a kinetic novel about school life and then everyone dies. One of the best VN series out there, I’m on my second read through, it’s NOT gore for gore’s sake and each installment ties back around each other. A whodunit mystery!
Last Word - Not a VN, not romance-focused, adventure-y game, where the ‘combat’ is a pokemon-like battle against other people. What are you fighting with? Your witty remarks. It’s a real unique little game I really enjoyed.
Narcissu First and Second - VN, m/f but it’s not REAAALLY romance focused, a beautiful, thoughtful piece with gorgeous music.
P.R.I.C.E. - FREE!!!!!, point-and-click-y, the best, highest quality free game you will ever find. The production value is off the charts, there’s VOICE ACTING, it’s short and creepy without being unfairly scary and it’s so good
Strawberry Vinegar - VN, light yuri elements (they’re little girls, so it’s like, kisses on the cheek and holding hands), you’re a shy little girl and a demon chooses YOU to haunt, and the demon demands sweets!
the Royal Trap - VN, mxf, you’re the attendant/spy of a prince sworn to protect him as he goes to a ball to try and woo a princess, plot ensues. The romance feel secondary to the story, where your character has an interesting role uncommonly seen in VNs.
the Sad Story of Emmeline Burns - VN, gen, interactions between a girl and a ghost
To Be Or Not To Be - VN but in the choose-your-own-adventure Western style where you play through the plot of Hamlet as either Hamlet, King Hamlet, or Ophelia. HILARIOUS.
Va11 Hall-A - VN+, bartender simulator, no romance but you can flirt with female customers and some of the girls are dating in-game. Cyberpunky, a little 4chan-adjacent if that bugs you, but really slick and fun.
Zero Escape: the Nonary Games - VN+, escape the room puzzles, not romance-focused. I love these two games so, so, SO much. The third was a huge disappointment., pretend it doesn’t exist.
I have a lot more in my backlog but I don’t want to rec what I haven’t played. I also passed up a LOT of Dogenzaka otome games - they’re trash, but I want my hot boys. I hope this helps!

I loved Highway Blossoms as well. It’s a beautifully written story, and not a terrible translation. I hung on to every word rather than skip through the text like I’m used to.
Plus. it felt rich and fun to follow, and I was so engrossed in it that I didn’t even want the sex scenes to happen, ‘cause I felt it would really cheapen the story. But it didn’t, they were handled beautifully as well, and kind of emphasized each character’s personality even more.
Highway Blossoms it probably the only VN that I actually read from start to finish ^^
I know!! Thanks soooooo so much for giving me that little push into trying this game. I might not have gotten if not for that, and a smile (or a whole BUNCH of smiles) is the best present anyone can give, ya know? <3 You’re right about the sex scenes. They were well done and fit the characters.. maybe even a little bold to try to make things more realistic. It was just such a fun story all the way through!

I wanted to recommend to you Flowers -Le volume sur printemps-. It’s the first of a yuri four-part series and the second vn will probably be translated in 2018. It’s very well done in my opinion.
Also, many ebi-hime vns are yuri and have pretty illustrations.
