May 2019 Update

Finished: RAGE

I enjoyed this one, but it could have been so much more…so much untapped potential (which apparently hasn’t even been realized in RAGE 2, but I haven’t played it so I couldn’t say myself). Overall, a very average game, but if you dig post-apocalyptic stories and environments, you might as well give this game a go when it goes on sale. Just be prepared for one of the worst endings in a game - the final cutscene will play and you’ll be asking, “Wait, is the game over? What the…”.

Finished: Deus Ex: Mankind Divided DLCs

More Deus Ex is always good! I thoroughly enjoyed all the DLCs. A Criminal Past was a huge change up, especially because I went through it the no augs, non-lethal route, which made for quite the challenge! Anyway, nothing in particular to say about these aside from the fact that they were tons of fun and if you’re a Deus Ex fan, they are a must play. I really need to get around to playing the original Deus Ex sometime soon…

Finished: Quake, Quake II, Quake II: The Reckoning, Quake II: Ground Zero

I played all of these games ages ago, but I don’t think I finished any of them. Well, I did now! Didn’t really enjoy Quake all that much (more of a Doom guy myself), but I did have fun with Quake II and its mission packs. Hopefully Quake IV improves on the formula some more!

Playing Next: Quake IV, to wrap up my Quake-spree. Then, I should probably get around to The Walking Dead. I’ll also try to take care of some smaller games in my backlog, too.

Yeah, RAGE ended really badly. I think I talked about it in my review, but it really was representative of FPS at the time. Limited number of weapons you can carry, brown and bloom aesthetic, tacked on “gameplay variety” for its own sake, etc. I wish racing was expanded upon past being a multiplayer mode, though. One thing I did like was how enemies tried to be unpredictable with their animations even if it is less of a problem with M&K when you actually follow your shots.

Indeed. There were certainly some diamonds in the rough, but not enough to salvage the game as a whole.

It wasn’t too long ago that I went on my Quake spree, and generally enjoyed the series. Though I have to agree with you, I do generally enjoy Doom (originals and new) more. I personally didn’t find Quake IV all that great (felt like a generic Doom 3) particularly the vehicle sections, but hope you find joy in there where I did not.

I plan to do a Deus Ex spree here sooner or later, so I am glad to hear positive reviews from the latest entry (DLC). I’m not entirely sure what to expect, but I really really liked the live action trailers they did when they announced Mankind Divided.

Great post, and wish you luck in your future backlog endeavors, be kind and well! ^_^

Be sure to carve out a decent amount of time for the Deus Ex’s, especially if you happen to be a completionist! I can’t speak to the original, as I haven’t played it yet, but Human Revolution and Mankind Divided (minus the ending) are absolute gems, and such unique experiences. I hope you enjoy them!

And best of luck with your future backlog endeavours as well - it seems like we both have quite a bit to get through :).
