2019

I wanted to do a summary/top 10 etc games of the year but I’ve already written 3 across BLAEO/Steamgifts so I’ve been shouting my opinions on the same games repeatedly to play them. :P Looking back, there were only a handful of games I didn’t enjoy. Most were at least fun, if not incredible in every regard.

Speaking of Steamgifts, I won so many genuinely fantastic games last year, including some of my favourites of not only the year but ever (Redout and Hitman 2 in particular. Slipstream and Distance we are also a blast and currently enjoying Horizon Chase Turbo, really loving racing games the past year). I played 17 of the 20 that I received, and considering 2 of those were in the last week or so of December I’m glad I managed to keep up with my wins as I was excited for them. They really made my day, so many amazing humble monthly games as well. Managed to take part in Play a Game You Won on Steamgifts each month which was fun, just took a glance and saw I haven’t missed a single month since July 2017. Dang that’s way longer than I remembered! Am happy it’s still going on, is also a nice tool to spy on what others are playing and take some recs. >:)

Also took part in every Monthly Theme here besides one (Noirvember), still not too shabby! They’re always a nice reminder of games I’ve forgot about or and an extra incentive, am happy they’re still going on.

Only bought a couple bundles throughout the year, needed to stay strong. :P But then November/December happened which added about 30 games, got some really nice deals and splurged on myself. Now to play them all and don’t feel guilty, yeesh so many games!

I was gifted a few HIGHLY wishlisted games at the end of the year: Gris, Life is Strange 2 and Return of the Obra Dinn. Got a bit emotional was so happy, then got a free month pass of Origin basic which I’ve been trying to make use of. Lots of Epic games, particularly Into the Breach I wanna dig into asap. OH and I was so freaking happy that Celeste came back for free!! It’s the only one I’d been upset that I missed out, having that reappear was the perfect birthday gift. It looks hard as nails from the tiny amount of gameplay I’ve seen, but hopefully doable? Have so many games I’m interested in, am hoping to be able to sit down & enjoy them. Hopefully get a bit better at not stopping games I’m enjoying, which I’ve done a lot the past few years.

It’s been really tough for me to focus, so story games have been a big challenge, but I miss diving into some deep lore and going on more interwoven adventures. Why I really want to get back into reading after a couple years (mostly) break, miss fantasy in particular a lot rn! Have quite a few top priority reads, so fingers crossed even if I don’t read a book or more a week like I did before my extended break, I’ve got some quality stories waiting for me. Was absolutely loving the first couple chapters of Yakuza 0, need to continue that hopefully this year. My main video game goal of 2020 is to play at least one long RPG if not more, more story heavy in general. But we’ll see how that goes, if I’m not able to focus and enjoy on what’s happening that’s silly to force it either.

A Hat in Time, Spyro, and Crash are all on my radar for 2020. Possibly Yooka as well. A lot of well loved 3D platformers I’ve missed out on, and seeing as it’s one of my favourite genres I should be in for a real treat. Spyro and Crash in particular have wanted to play since growing up but didn’t have a playstation besides playing at my friends’ houses (Crash Team Racing was great), so this is the perfect opportunity. :D

Kudos to everyone on all your progress, I love hearing everyone’s thoughts on the games throughout the year. These are some of my favourite posts and times to get recommendations, have already discovered a few new games. Thank you for sharing!

Here’s to a great 2020, hopefully with lots of exciting adventures in store.

And we are glad to have you :)
Just don’t take any game advise from mouse, she is mostly owning trash games (sorry Mistress, but it’s true :P)
And we are not planning on stopping anytime soon.

Good to hear. :D It’s been nice to see so many people taking part and reminding everyone of all the good games waiting to be played still!

Celeste is as hard as it looks but there’s an assist mode to help you before you break your controller (I used it sometimes to avoid a catastrophe :D). So even I managed to beat it!

That’s really nice to know (in case desperate times calls for desperate measures)! Even just the knowledge that I won’t be forced stuck somewhere for hours and hours, even if I don’t use ‘em, relieves a lot of the stress with difficult games. Thank you for the heads up. :D And congrats on beating it!!
