Another game that didn’t live up to expectations :\
People were talking good about this and what I had seen from store looked fine so I started entering some GAs and won it eventually.

Played yesterday, took me ~4 hours to get all the achievements, feels like I could have done in 1 hour if the game followed platformers’ standard.
First, it looks like either the world is covered by a thin layer of ice or cat’s paws are made of butter. Too many times I fell/slid off a platform and died because of this. Rage-inducing!
Second, platform pieces are.. how can I say.. impenetrables! Think of the usual games where you have a platform above you and you simply jump on it; well, you can’t do it here. Apart the fact that all platform are placed diagonally, if you hit the edge (from below but also from the side) you’ll fall down. Rage-inducing!
Oh, and why everything is higher than your standard jump? WHY?? D: you have to double jump to reach everything (or “ultra” jump, based on the style you choose, I’ve found the double jump more comfortable) ..not so rage-inducing though =P

Story itself didn’t even look that bad, but all that “philosophical” tone the speaks had.. damn! I was tired of reading since the meeting with the first cat1 (aka the first dialogue monologue you read).
Graphic style and music aren’t that bad either, what really killed it for me were the bad controls :(
Despite all of this, bet you’ll ignore it all and just love it if you love cats XD

If you want to get all achievements, fishbones are usually visible but don’t let your guard down as some blend with the environment and you may end up missing ‘em. With a bit of attention I managed to collect 998/1000 during my playthrough, and replayed both level 2 and 4 to get that single fishbone I had missed in each.
Cats to rescue and objects to find are “hidden” but I dont’ think you’ll have any difficulty finding them if you’re also looking for fishbones (I mean, I found all of them on my my first run without problems).
Be also aware that there’s a piano game by the end of the fourth level, where you have to play a song with less than 3 errors to unlock its relative achievement: well, you can’t access this minigame anywhere else other than replaying the whole level, so I suggest you to keep practicing and fail on purpose when you get 3+ errors because when you reach the end of the song the game moves automatically forward, with no option to replay said minigame.

..and now, ladies and gentlemen, I present you my 3000th achievement! Level 1 fishbones
Collect 200 fishbones in Level 1

  1. This means I didn’t get everything that was happening in the game.. if you’ve played it, can you tell me who cat-napped those caged cats?
Was it that cat at the very end, after the credits? I wasn’t paying attention so I missed part of the scene. If so, why? Has something to do with the woman’s death? and, did I meet him already during the game? Who was he talking to btw? The cat? The man?
Can you also tell me why last level happens at night but when the cat reaches its owner it’s broad daylight? Behind that door must reside the longest tunnel ever =P

Oh, and why everything is higher than your standard jump? WHY?? D: you have to double jump to reach everything

Ugh, I really dislike when platformers do that. Very bad “design choice”, in my opinion. Just lower the platforms or make the character jump higher, no need for your stupid doublejumps, FFS! >_<

Thanks for sharing your thoughts about the game, I’ve been thinking about buying it since it’s currently on a pretty big discount and the graphic looks rather charming. I think I’ll wait a bit more :)

I like when you unlock double jumps later in the game, allowing you to reach new areas/shortcuts or even to do new moves/attacks.. in this case they are indeed useless :\

heh, I was charmed by its graphic too =P

Formidolosus

Hahaha funny that someone else found the game a bit strange. I didn’t find the platforming at all hard, but the developers are clearly just really obsessed with their cats. All of those cats in there are their own cats. And yes the cat at the end had imprisoned all the others, because he’s a crazy beast or something? I really didn’t get it either.

malabagaa

oh, really? must’ve missed that part.. I wasn’t really paying attention to the game XD

Platforms per sé weren’t hard, it’s that the cat kept doing a “step” after landing which often led to its fall :\

hmm, the mystery remains..

MiniTaurus

I lol’ed at cat-napped XD
Too bad the game made you because it looks interesting X_X

You can’t kid-nap something if it’s not a kid, right? ᑈ

Yup :\ What looked like a nice break without too many worries turned out to be rather annoying instead :(

wany1981

thanks for the review.. back to the bottom of back log you go even though I like cats.

malabagaa

Perhaps to just “like” them is not enough.. you have at least to “love” them to be able to cope with those controls =P
