Amnesia …… again

Amnesia is something you seemingly had your whole life. At least you don’t remember a time without it. Single game for today but it fits the Spooktober theme. Also I’m searching for some gaming help.

  • Amnesia: The Dark Descent

    22 hours playtime

    18 of 18 achievements

Amnesia: The Dark Descent: Well, I don’t think I have to tell much about this game as nearly everyone should know it. You are playing Daniel who had the glorious idea to drink an amnesia potion in order to flee from the Shadow. You are walking around the most time, solving minor puzzles while avoiding enemies and trying to not to die by heart attacks.
So how does it come that I got to play through the game again ….. for a third time (first as I bought, second as it got the achievements). Well, as their seems to be a new Amnesia Collection for XBone, Frictional Games made a new game mode: Hard Mode (Booooooring name). And with it came the new achievement of playing through the game in Hard Mode which is ….. hard. So what has changed? Enemies spot you easier, are faster and hit harder. There is less oil and tinder boxes (like 20-25 for the whole game). If your sanity goes down you die like …. you are dead. And yea, saving costs 4 tinder boxes meaning that you can save at maximum 6 times in the game. So, it is a similar approach to perma death like in Outlast. On the plus side Frictional Games gives you the chance to save at your own pace, considering you take the risk of exploring more and finding the tinder boxes. But you may lose sanity or find enemies. That is a fair concept. What is more annoying then Outlast is the death by Sanity which is a problem in at least two points in the game and forces you to wait several minutes at different parts of the game.
As I played the game twice before I didnt before to do this completely blind again. So, I upped the gamma a bit and used a video guide where routes had been described to minimized enemy contact. Still had to manage sanity myself for most part. As the guide is fairly good I didnt die to often and only shortly after saving as those where risky points anyway.
If you are lazy, someone has posted a “guide” with a final save game to just trigger the achievement which is kinda stupid in my opinion. Welp. Also I havent tried but I think it is still possible to edit the save file (as it is a simple txt file) to give you more tinder boxes.

Searching for Help

Well, first to the one I would really like to do. Recently got myself from Tremor Games Mini-Ghost which is a simple retro platformer. I also have completed most of the game with the exception of the Trolling achievement. Here, I need someone from my Steam friend list to play the game and I have to use the Troll mode and do something. Shouldnt take longer than 5-10 minutes. So if someone here has the game, I would appreciate it. In rare cases, I also have an additional key. So someone here says he wants to play and complete the game himself I can provide also a key. But not for a +1 or some quick one time playthrough.
Secondly, with the recently published 1.10 Update I try to get back a bit into No More in Hell, a free to play, co-op zombie survival game. So if someone wants to help me with some more difficult achievements I would also be open for this. If you havent played this game before you can take a look at it, after all it is free. However, I would not recommand the game to people having problems with dated graphics and slightly clunky gameplay or achievement hunters as they are quite grindy and hard. If this is no problem for you, we may try some things together. Not sure though, how much motivation I am ready to pour into it myself.
Lastly, I am still open for some of the easier RE5 Versus achievements.

Have fun gaming.

I recently replayed Amnesia for the same reason, and I really hate the game. Actually enjoyed it somewhat more than last time :D Hard Mode wasn’t as bad as I thought. There’s definitely more than 25 tinderboxes though, I’d say around 50 but you have to really look for them since they’re very easy to miss. I didn’t bother to look for every single one, but I’m certain I made more than 6 saves. Sanity was less of a problem than I first thought since I used the lantern often and progressed through the the game quickly. Would still say Outlast is worse since it didn’t allow you to save anywhere at all.

Outlast is definetely worse since you have more enemies, more scripting events against you, no saves (which leads to playing the boring intro sequence again) and at least two potentially deadly jumps if you slip up. Well, it also some helpful glitches like the phasing doors. Still, I liked the idea of saving for scavening.
50 seems a bit extreme to me. Like I said I used for two thirds of the game a guide which lead to less exploration. This however only covers the monster areas. So the only parts I havent searched around to much are the Choir and the Prisons. Dont think there is much in the choir, may have forgotten several stuff in the Prisons though. Also I think the tinder box and oil spawns are at least partially tied to chance. Because I have watched the video guide and places where he found tinder boxes had been empty for me. I think 25-30 should be realistically if you find everything. Nonetheless, 5 saves are more than enough if you pay attention. As for sanity, it is manageable. But it caused me still to die, one time in the morgue and then three times in the inner sanctum. Although it could have been to physical damage as well. Also, I somehow had less oil than the video guide although I used the lantern rarely. So maybe also tied to spawn chance.

But for now I hope, no new achievements for Amnesia. It is enough.

Never knew about any glitches in Outlast. Like I said most people are terrible at looking for them (no offense), though most of them I found near the start of the game. This gave me the false impression that there were much more tinderboxes than I assumed, which turned out detrimental towards the end of the game where they were much more rare. I sadly deleted my save games otherwise I could tell you exactly how many I found. But I can remember I found at least 8 tinderboxes before going to the refinery since I made two saves (even wasting my first save). Storage had the most tinderboxes of all for me, a whopping 8 in that area alone (again I remember making 2 saves there). I didn’t explore the Prison areas for obvious reasons, the parts I did explore had no tinderboxes. The Choir had 2 or 3 tinderboxes and I explored that area heavily. I can also confirm the randomness of tinderboxes since I also followed a guide and he found another tinderbox that didn’t spawn for me in the Choir. I can’t recall for sure but I believe I made around 7 or 8 saves so I’m fairly certain there’s more than 30, perhaps not as high as 50 yet I didn’t explore every area for tinderboxes, so I’d say a bare minimum of 30 and possibly not as many as 50. 5 Saves is the bare minimum in my opinion unless you know exactly where all enemies spawn, I didn’t, even with a guide. Sanity never came close to killing me, or I simply didn’t notice:p But I did rush through most areas, unless while looking for tinderboxes where I wasted a lot of time but it didn’t effect my sanity? I’m not quite sure how the sanity thing even works, but it didn’t seem to be much of a problem since progressing the story seemed to clear it. I did look at my health a lot, especially after those stupid slime bubbles that spawn did a lot of damage. I ran out of oil quite often, but mostly there was some near by.

I hope, no new achievements for Amnesia. It is enough.

I full heartily agree with that!
