Second week of January

We are 12 days into the new year and I have yet to call I game I have played a complete piece of shit, that must be a record :D

Completed SG wins

Scanner Sombre
Playtime: 1.6 hours
Achievements: 0 of 0
Review: I have mixed feelings about this one. On one hand it was a really cool experience and I quite liked how you had to "scan" your surroundings to make them appear, but on the other hand there were many times where I found myself being bored. Around halfway through the game I got a big UI element get suck in the middle of my screen that would not GTFO even after I restarted the game, but other than that I had no issues on Linux.

Other completed games

Fran Bow
Playtime: 11 hours
Achievements: 18 of 18 (100%)
Review: It is a nice point and click game but it has some serious issues: the achievements for the Linux version don't work and the devs are aware and haven't bothered to fix it for over 4 years; there is a point in the game where you literally just click next through a dialogue for 10 minutes (no joke...) to finally get through the conversation; it keeps forgetting my settings every time I restart it.
The Cat Games
Playtime: 1.6 hours
Achievements: 16 of 16 (100%)
Review: A adorable as hell game where you play 4 different cat mini-games. It is good enough to waste 15 minutes of you time. Sadly it does feel quite laggy at times. Works fine with Proton. Meow.
Pixel Puzzles 2: Christmas
Playtime: 6.2 hours
Achievements: 27 of 27 (100%)
Review: It is a nice Christmas themes jigsaw puzzle game with 25 puzzles with 60 to 350 pieces and a bonus odd shaped one. Works with 0 issues with Proton.

I think Scanner Sombre would be amazing in VR/any real life sort of projector but definitely felt like parts were definitely too slow paced for PC. The boat especially went on for a long time without much changing in scenery. The ‘Easter eggs’ so to speak were neat rewarding you for exploring it all, but felt like there were too few in between the longer sections. Cool concept but can see how it felt a bit more like a demo in parts/not reaching it’s full potential.

MouseWithBeer

There is a VR version for it, but me and VR don’t go together. Yea, I wish there was more to it because it is not a bad concept for a game at all. That part had me terrified because I was just waiting for the boat to break and me getting killed. Hmm I never came across any easter eggs that I was aware of and I went the wrong way quite a few times.

JaffaCaffa

That’s funny, it hadn’t even crossed my mind that the boat might not be safe, was completely confident and relieved once on it. :D The part before it was definitely unnerving, but the beautiful music in the canal put my worries to rest. :P

MouseWithBeer

I was still so freaked out from the part before (I am so glad after I died once I actually found a path where you can avoid the water completely) and plus I have a weird phobia of water in video games (don’t ask, makes no sense, I don’t have it IRL) where being in water is a big no-no for me so there was no way I would feel at ease till I stepped off that damn boat, not even the music helped :D

JaffaCaffa

Ahh that makes a lot of sense. :)
That part must’ve been hell for you yeesh. That’s actually really interesting about the phobia being purely in video games, would’ve thought they’re very similar to irl (like the unknown/claustrophobia etc). It’s unlucky for you that it’s a part of so many video games. :(

MouseWithBeer

Thankfully it doesn’t affect me if the water is really shallow and I can handle some games a lot better than others but there doesn’t really seem being any logic behind which ones affect me more than others, this one was somewhere in the middle of how bad it was. my brain is weird >.<

samwise84

👍 For the non sucky games.
I knew you could do it. I dare you to not play any sucky game in January 2020…

MouseWithBeer

As I already told you, dare accepted :D

samwise84

Once that is accomplished we can go on and make it for the first quarter of the year, then 6 months, then the whole year. Oh the possibilities.

MouseWithBeer

We will see about those :P

cbones - LINUX

Good to see Fran Bow achievements working for you, hopefully it was not too painful to go through it from the start

MouseWithBeer

Yep, what you linked me worked perfectly so thanks again! Luckily I noticed them not working right when you can get the first achievements to make the guard fall asleep so it want too much to replay again.
