Casual achievement hunter’s progress log #59

Beaten

Ryse: Son of Rome - It’s a fun game about being a Roman. The combat’s meh, the story’s a wasted potential, but god damn it, it’s feckin’ gorgeous. So, overall it was okay. (28/73 achievements / 38%)
Planes, Bullets and Vodka - A very cheap game that I won a while ago on SG. 30 minutes of mediocre gameplay. It was a nice timewaster, but I wouldn’t really recommend it. (8/9 achievements / 89%)
Rebuild 3: Gangs of Deadsville - I loved it. A fun zombie survival strategy game. Over time it will become monotonous, but it’s best played one level at a time. (27/42 achievements / 64%)
Orwell - An episodic game with a cool concept that ends up falling apart a bit. If you have any interest in the game based on the store page, then get it. (15/27 achievements / 56%)
Epistory - Typing Chronicles - I won this a while ago, but never was in the mood to play it. I had around 6 hours of nothing to do, so I thought I’d try this. Turns out the game was quite short according to HLTB, so I thought I’d clutch it. A fun game. I recommend it. (36/55 achievements / 65%)

Completed

Far Cry 4 - Well, Pagan was right. I did tear shit up. Mainly the game itself. Compared to Far Cry 3, this is a mess. A terrible mess. But overall Ubisoft’s base quality is pretty adequate, so it’s not like this is a bad game. It’s just that compared to Far Cry 3, this is just bad. My review. (no achievements)
Pro Gamer Manager - I wanted to play a game like Game Dev Tycoon without owning it. So the only game that I remembered that I owned with similar gameplay was this. People like to give it bad rep, but in reality it’s competent enough to be fun for the 90 minutes that you’ll be playing it. (no achievements)
Apartment 666 - Don’t play it. It’s bad. It doesn’t deserve more attention. (2/2 achievements / 100%)
A Normal Lost Phone - After loving Simulacra, I was excited to play this SG win. Sadly, I was more than disappointed. This great formula turned into predictable story beats that didn’t take advantage of its own opportunities that came with the presentation. My review. (13/13 achievements / 100%)

Watched

Agent Origins (All episodes) - A great promotional piece for The Division. It’s free and it was made by CorridorDigital, so you know there’s a fair bit of quality there. I really liked it and it genuinely made me want to play The Division. Anyways, a great experience. Would recommend.

I keep wanting to get Normal Lost Phone but I know the twist already. I like phone games that put you in mysterious circumstances and have you decipher whats happening as you go. Sounds like if I already know the twists and turns, it’s probably best to avoid it. I’ll check out Simulacra though.

I’m keeping my eye on Ryse. It looks so good but I’ve heard numerous complains about combat. I’ll have to wait for a good bundle :) Thanks for the reviews!

I have the same feeling for “unknown phone” games.
If you do want to play those types of games, then maybe even go for A Normal Lost Phone first. Maybe my expectations were too high after Simulacra. But for me, ANLP was just Gone Home on a phone. Not a bad thing inherently, but I’ve already played Gone Home and I’ve already also played a “lost phone” game.

As for Ryse… I’m mixed on it. I’d say the combat will be servicable at first. Later on it’ll feel terrible, but you won’t be bothered as much because you know the game’s about to end and you’ll most likely just push through it.
So yeah, wait for a good deal for it. The 5€ for me was barely enough to be a good price.

And thanks for reading my post :D
