This is the most difficult game I have played this year. Even Hard Reset on *Insane* was easy compared to this.

While games are usually designed to make you win and make you feel like a hero, this game wants to see you fail. It is virtually impossible to solve a mission on the first try. In addition it has some game mechanics, to which I had to get used to: like no saving within a mission. If you do a mistake you have to do the whole mission right from the start. That will happen again, and again, and again, and ..., because often you do not have a clue what to do next, since quest helpers that are common in modern games, do not exists.

All this made me nearly rage quit after the first hours, but after I got used to it, I started to like this game more and more.

Next game I want to play is Shadow Warrior: Special Edition. I played Hard Reset from the same developers and it was amazing and from what I have heard Shadow Warrior is even better. Also I did play the original Shadow Warrior Classic (1997) not long time ago.

Thanks for reading and happy backlogging.

Congrats on sticking with it and beating it! I know that sometimes the easiest thing to do is give up but that’s what makes it even better when you do beat it :D
Happy Friday and happy backlogging to you as well!

Thank you. I know what you mean.
Most of the time it is nothing special when I have finished a game, but this time I am really proud of it.

Wow, the game was released in 2000. I somehow assumed that the Hitman series started a few years later than that.

How long are the missions? The lack of quicksave doesn’t sound appealing.

Spitfyr

If you know what to do you can finish the missions between 3 and 10 Minutes. I guess you can speedrun the game within 2 hours. Well it was 20+ hours for me, that means I really had to do the same 3 minutes again and again.

uguleley

Alright, that sounds tolerable. Repeating same parts is always boring but that’s how it goes with some games..

misterhaan

having to replay sections and not being able to save if i only had 5 minutes to play doesn’t work well for me, but i do want to get into the hitman series…

Spitfyr

The game also has an easy difficult level, I do not know how much it changes, but I am sure one still needs a lot of patience.

On the other hand I did play Hitman Bloodmoney a few years ago and I did not had the feeling to miss anything for not playing the predecessors.

misterhaan

i think i actually finished hitman contracts on xbox; just hoping i’ll be able to find enough time to finish missions with no save for codename 47

I actually thought Hitman got easier later on, where you were expected to shoot your way through things.
And if you thought this was hard, just wait until you get to Gothic 2 with the expansion!

Spitfyr

Yes, the game has some shooting parts. Still you cannot just shot around like in a FPS. For example in one mission you have to clear a mansion within an army camp. If you do decide for shooting, not a single bullet is allowed going out of the window or a door, not from you, not from the enemy. Else you will have the camp against you and it is nearly impossible to finish the mission. This was the part of the game where I nearly rage quit.

I did play Gothic 2 with the expansion. Yes I am that old ;) I remember I did exploit every mechanic of the game, like climbing on unreachable spots and then spike the enemies with dozens of arrows, till they drop.

Fnord

If my memory serves, you could just shoot the guy through a window in the mansion mission.

Spitfyr

Yes, you remember right. But I tell you, the fight face to face against that “Tony Montana” guy is one of the most remarkable and most ridiculous moments of this game and it is a pity to skip it.

Congrats on beating the game! I actually rage quit this one for the same reason after first two missions a couple of years back. Never got back to it, maybe I’ll do it in the future.

Spitfyr

Thank you. I was sooo close to rage quit but now I am glad I didn’t. There is still an easy difficult level, looking back maybe it would have been better for me to choose this.
