Yono and the Celestial Elephants

Cute game, with world with some of the most crazy lore I’ve ever seen. You are a young cosmic elephant in the world, where elephants are saviors of humanity. Every couple of thousand years the mighty cosmic elephant is coming to Earth and helping people - ending wars, teaching them about farming and how to raise cities… yea, basically Prometheus with trunk. The gameplay is mostly a variation on Sokoban - you are pushing crates and other objects. With a bit of fighting and other riddles to add a flavour. It’s a really nice game, and it would be perfect for a bit older kids - like 8-10 years or so. But I had a very good time too.

Ok. Who had the brightest idea of the all time to put long multiple-stages boss battles in the game, where you are dying from one hit. Most of the time this one is a nice puzzle platformer, based on the idea of magnets. But from time to time there is a boss, and suddenly I’m playing Cuphead. Every bossfight is like couple of minutes long, have at least 3-4 stages, and if you missed your jump ONCE, you are starting from the beggining. Oh, and remember those collectables you ignored, because they were just collectables. Near the end you are discovering, that you actually need like 1/3 of them to finish your game. You didn’t have enough? So go back and search for them. I was so annoyed that I didn’t finish the last final battle, just look at ending on You Tube. I’m still marking it as finish, because I deserved it….

This game is a bit difficult to describe. It looks like a platformer, but is not one. Imagine a platform game, where mechanics of jumping were like in Assasin’s Creed - So your guy bassically is jumping without your effort, but it looks cool. There are some riddles, some fighting, some nice story about racism, and some rip-offs from Pixar Inside Out (not really, because the game is older, but I had strong Inside Out wibe). All in all I had a very good time, and this game is good, if you don’t expect it to be next Banjo Kazooie, or Crash Bandicoot. It is really it’s own thing.

I’m not a big fan of platformers, Teslagrad is one of the few I’ve played. It’s interesting to hear from someone else, that the game has it’s flaws. So it’s not just my disliking of platformers that I did not really enjoy that game :)

Teslagrad was ok, 90% of the time. Not brilliant, just OK. Boss battles were really bad.

Yeah, I struggled quite a lot with some of the boss battles – I had the most problems with one of the earlier ones, but it’s too long ago, I don’t remember which one. Oh and some of the collectibles were really annoying, but you wisely choose to not get all of them :)

As someone who liked Teslagrad, I agree that the sudden card requirement wasn’t a good decision (plus, some cards you can only get with later power-ups, which adds to the annoyance). I still don’t think you should mark the game as “beaten,” though; if you give up on a game, you should mark it as “won’t play.”
