End of June Update!

Guess who’s going to have a computer in about a month? I finally bought the parts to it and now I just have to wait. I can finally get back to completing my wins and all the games I’ve been racking up in the sales while it was broken :P

I didn’t get much done last month but I will be playing a lot more games this month! I’ve bought some potato running games during the sale and I can’t wait to give them a try.

Detention is a Taiwan point and click horror game. I don't want to say much about the plot because most of it would be a spoiler.

I do want to say that I loved this game! I expected a simple horror game and left with a greater understanding of Taiwanese history and culture.

Detention is scary, it has a great story, and it'll stick with you for a while. I definitely recommend it!

I played this one on PS4 and I was pleasantly surprised. Although not a perfect game, A Plague Tale is the type of game I've been itching to play for a while. a single player story-driven game with good characters.

Plague Tale is a linear adventure stealth game where you follow two kids (Amicia and Hugo) on a journey. Although it's very different, this game did remind me of the game, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. Both games had a good story and focused on sibling bonding to push the heart of the story.

This game is mostly stealth with some combat. There are interesting game mechanics added later but for the most part, you'll be stealthing through. The voice acting is actually pretty good! It looks like young kids were hired for the voices so I'm surprised by how well they did.

The game looks great, the setting is interesting, and it does have a good story with likable characters. My reviews are super vague this post, but I just don't want to spoil anything. This does have a hefty price tag so If you're unsure with the plot then I recommend it on sale for sure!

Detention is a game that I was kinda interested in, but didn’t buy until earlier this year, and only because I was worried that it would also be pulled from Steam, with all the review bombing at the time. I wish I had bought it earlier because it was great. It sucks that Devotion (made by the same dev) got pulled because of the Winnie the Pooh controversy. It’s been months now and it still hasn’t returned. :(

wow I must have missed all of this contreversy! Can you tell me what happened with the Winnie the Pooh thing? If not then I can google it.
Tht is a shame because they did a great job with Detention and I’d love to check out the other games.

Basically, some players found an in-game reference to Winnie the Pooh and took it as an attack against China. The game got review bombed until it was pulled. (link) If I’m not mistaken, it led to Steam taking steps to somewhat curb the effects of review bombing.

I’m glad you enjoyed detention. :D The situation with devotion is basically like what s17tabris said. The in-game reference to Winnie the Pooh(a talisman with winnie the pooh - xie jin ping on it) wasn’t suppose to be there, but only a placeholder art and an inside joke for the devs. Since(only my speculation) it looks very much like the real art they missed replacing it. The thing is they patched it 2 hours after launch and shouldn’t have gotten noticed. However some people on Chine forums asked people to give them cracked version of the game and people refused, so they got mad and when some played the original version and found this thing they told the government about it. At that time China has a scandal involving government officials I think, so as a distraction(speculation) they made this thing super huge on all the medias and such and all the Chinese streamer started stopping the playthrough and stuff in fear of getting bad rep. Since Red Candle Games(the devs)’s publisher is a Hong Kong company, they also got affected since their signed agreement agreed to not have any political element regarding China in the game, so they were forced to pull the game from the store(speculation). The official reason for pulling the game from store is to fix some launching issues on some machines which did happen, however after this long without any update I think my speculation about being forced is true.

wow thanks for the info. Such a bummer that everything blew up like that. Hopefully it’ll come back one day.

In case you haven’t seen the announcement, they won’t be releasing Devotion anytime soon. Looks like the only way to play it now is yar har fiddle dee dee. :(
