Report 84: February 2024

Cats Hidden in Italy/Maple Hollow: Simple hidden objects game just like the previous two. 5/10
The Last Stand Legacy Collection: Collection of small flash games. First two are base defense shooters, the third one is a straight-up action-RPG. Very nostalgic for me. 7/10
Resident Evil 2: This one differs quite a bit from the first game’s remake, kinda miss fixed camera angles. Higher difficulties are actually hard, yet still manageable. Really liked this one. 9/10
Boneraiser Minions: It’s a really good VS clone, but good god, getting all the achievements was kinda tedious/boring at the end. Had to set up color tracing for playable character and enemies characters, I really don’t get why it’s not default, since it gets really hard on the eyes late in the game. Otherwise, pretty good. 8/10
Resident Evil 3: This one is definitely weaker than its predecessor. It is way more action-oriented, the puzzles in 2 were pretty dumb, here they are pretty much nonexistent. The game is hilariously easier since you can buy endless bazooka with earned points and autosaving is off only on the hightest difficulty. Pretty short. Heard a lot of complaints from the people who played the original, but since I didn’t play it, it felt alright to me. 8/10

People who play Resident Evil games are somethin’ else, I won’t ever be the target audience but I can appreciate people who are, those games are tough and terrifying! Way too many hand injuries. Are you looking forward to playing any special games in March?

So far the only RE game I’d call tough was the first remake, mainly because of Crimsonheads and how important it is to conserve your ammo. The next games are way more lenient with that.

My friend adviced me to try Code: Veronica next. After that, I’ll do 0 (same friend told me it was pretty bad) and replay the OG RE4. I’ve already beaten 4 many years ago and I loved it, so I think I’m in for a good time.
I’ve also got into Earth Defense Force franchise. I maybe started with the wrong one to do so, Insect Armageddon, but I still kinda like it.
Maybe I’ll finally continue the Yakuza series, Yakuza 4 is up.

Ah, Resident Evil 2 is still on my unplayed games list, though I played the original a lot (despite the remake being quite different gameplay-wise). However, I want to complete RE1 first and I find no motivation for that …. It is the same as with RE0 which I started and only years later, I continued and completing it. But I should do this year because I still have Tormented Soulds and Them & Us in the backlog too :P

Resident Evil 3 I would like to buy and play. But not as long as the game comes with Resistance. I don’t like added games which I don’t play even if I could just hide it.

Re1make is a fantasic game, replayed it multiple times back to back despite it being pretty hard at some parts. Re2make is on the easier side when you get used to it.
I’ve beaten 0 recently and it’s kinda awful purely in concept to begin with. Wouldn’t recommend to try it before 1, the much better game in comparison.

Yeah, that’s unfortunate that this p.o.s. comes with it, but I’ll have to live with it. Re3make was alright, I just wish I hadn’t seen the original’s walkthrough afterwards. The amount of stuff that was cut is just bewildering

I already completed Resident Evil 0. Didnt find it awful. It was a good game in my opinion (though I like Rebecca as MC). Only the inventory system makes it a pain and the constant juggling between the characters. After starting it, stopping to play it for over a year or two, I did everything in one go. Makes each run, roughly two hours or so.

For Resident Evil 1, it will probably be the same. Have to find the right mood to start with it and then do everything in one go, so that the invisible zombies run and the no boxes run are no major headache. Probably have to restart, I am not that far in the game anyway. And Resident Evil 2 will only be done afterwards as I expect it to be easier than RE0 and RE1. Similar as RE4 which was also more on the easier side. Especially, if both games allow most subsequent runs with unlimited ammo. Will probably take a while before I get to them again. ^^’
