Report #76

For the first time since joining this wonderful site in 2017, I’m actually losing the battle against my backlog. Between adding free games, buying games that are going to be removed, and some random purchases, my backlog is growing much faster than I can complete games. I’m not yet sure how long-term this will be, but I guess for the moment this is how things are. What does this mean? I still like to complete a game before starting the next one, so maybe I’ll just focus on slowly trimming down the unfinished and beaten category from my library while letting the never played category do what it wants.

My initial goals for 2025 (getting the backlog down to 170 games and completing most new purchases) are already far out of reach, so I don’t think there is any point in chasing them anymore. Instead, I’m going to try to get my unfinished + beaten games from 89 down to 80. It seems like a tiny goal, but that is still a lot to do since most of those games are on the longer side.

Anyways, here is my list of completed games from the last ~6 months:

Currently Playing

Phew, after looking at my ratings, maybe the actual problem is not playing enough good games. Still, when I think back, I mostly remember the good games and have almost forgotten about some of the bad ones. My favorite game of this batch was definitely Victoria Revolutions, although its age shows. I am very happy about my Ashes of the Singularity completion as well. It has been in the beaten category for years, and I finally had the chance to get the missing multiplayer achievements. Ghostwire: Tokyo was great too but overstayed its welcome a bit at the end. All in all, I don’t regret anything.

I’m happy to elaborate further if you have any questions, but I’m trying to cut down on meta-gaming, so I won’t do longer reviews anymore.

Happy backlog clearing,
Vito

2025 goals -> Unfinished + Beaten: 89/80

Even a tiny goal is better than no goal, and even one game beaten is better than no game beaten. You’re doing great, keep it up! Don’t let backlog-clearing become a chore, otherwise it loses it’s potency :)

Vito

Thank you! Very wise and true words! You are right, backlog clearing should not become a burden, hence my new goal :) It is still backlog clearing, but less strict. I hope the hoarder and the assassin in me can be satisfied at the same time :D

fernandopa

I love it. The less strict I’ve been taking backlog-clearing, the more successful I’ve been hahaha it’s quite a paradox but I’ll take it for what it is :)

Arbiter Libera

Look, that decimal must be off on Battletech. 785 hours?

Vito

Haha, yeah, I love that game. Especially with the fantastic mods that are available, RogueTech for example. I could play this for months :D
