Not sure how to start to this but I was not expecting that this game would be so addictive. It's a dungeon-based 2.5D platformer with rice farming sim in third person. There are also a lot of RPG elements like crafting new weapons, crafting new attire, cooking new recipes, master your fighting style (yes there are a lot of skills to use) and getting pets. It isn't a souls-like but it was not easy either. Once you passed the mid-game, you'll definitely need your buffs and debuffs from new foods. If you want to craft things, you may want to grind in levels because there are some rare drops. It may not sound that awesome if you are not familiar with Japanese culture or want to learn things about it. Because farming sim part is a real labor and will teach you about traditional Japanese rice farming, you may not like it if you're not into this stuff. I'm warning about this because I saw some negative reviews regarding both sides (platformer - farming sim) and kinda heartbroken because this game is awesome.

I guess it wouldn't be a Sakuna review without mentioning "you can pet animals", you can carry your pets and the most important part you can carry two of your pets at the same time, one cat and one dog to be exactly. :3

There are so many little details I think you'll love. Like, the food materials you gathered will get rotten after some time BUT you'll use them to make fertilizer.

There are also so many plot twists in the story, just like Japanese fairy tales. So I can assure you that you won't get bored because always something new comes up.

I can easily say this game was one of the cutest games out there. Character design is just like how would you imagine Japanese fairy tales, cute and serious at the same place. Gotta mention that this game is one of the rare Western releases that comes with Japanese language option, usually you would only see Japanese voice acting at most. So you can play this game with all its authenticity, if you are into that kind of stuff of course, which really fits a game like this.

I actually started this game as part of "Joyful June" event however couldn't finished in time. Well, this game isn't something you would rush anyway. Though I'm glad I played this sooner than I planned so I can say the event served me well.

A true love letter to the originals. Really enjoyed this one. I wish there were someone on multiplayer too.

Although there was a minimap in this game, I played it like a champ and haven’t bothered with it. It might be necessary for collectables though. I wanted it to last more but that’s why there is SnapMap I guess, where people create custom maps. However cannot use them because I refuse to create an account for it. I finished the game on Ultra-Violence. Tried Ultra-Nightmare afterwards, barely finished the first level. Demons got me in the second level. Since it’s perma-death, I stopped there. However I plan to play it on Nightmare some time later. I would’ve played it on Nightmare on my first playthrough if it wasn’t locked. That’s how I like my boomer-shooters. Brutal. :)

Peace was never an option!

This little meme-ified game was very fun to play. You play as a chaotic evil goose and terrorize the neighbourhood. It’s technically a puzzle a game but looking at the achievements, there are a lot of extra funevil things to do. Haven’t done them yet but I ‘d like to play it again someday for all the extras.

HONK!

We somehow managed to synchronise our posts :D

Sakuna looks very cute! I have had it on my wishlist for awhile and its good to see a positive review!

Mitsukuni

Wow, just by 2 seconds. :D

Yes, she’s cute and very angry, that makes her more cute though. :3
The game is a little bit pricey though I got it on 40% discount but definitely worth it.

Jaded

SO close to the exact same time !

Yeah I’ve been hoping it turns up in a bundle, or wait until it gets a bit of a larger discount.
It’s hard for me to justify buying games unless they are cheap/multiplayer/or something that I have wanted for a long time :D
Although Sakuna does look like a game I’d enjoy…

Mitsukuni

I understand, I mostly do the same too to be fair. Kinda got it because of a hype, thankfully it was not a regretful decision. :)
Though knowing the publisher, I don’t think we will see this in a bundle ever. Also I wouldn’t expect a discount more than 50% anytime soon. However I expect a GOG release sometime.

By the way it seems you have a Steam Deck and Sakuna is Deck verified. I know it is tempting. :D

Jaded

Shhhhh don’t tell me it’s Deck Verified. I currently have…56 games installed on the Steam Deck, so I don’t need more yet 😂

I can wait… it does look fun though, and definitely something I’d like…

Mitsukuni

Heh, that’s a lot of backlog to be melted. I suppose you have enough time. :P

Sakuna looks so beautiful what? I have never heard of it and I am already in love with it.

I played untitled goose game with my sister, Gotta admit it’s one of the best coop experiences I’ve ever had.

Mitsukuni

Yeah it was so beautiful. :3

Gotta try co-op sometime, must be fun.

Sakuna has been on my WL since forever, I love seeing people comment good things about it.
Congratulations on all of your assassinations!!

Mitsukuni

I guess I have nothing negative to say about it. It was pretty much perfect.
And thanks!
