July

In June and July I’ve been quite busy with real life. Mostly having a pretty good time, but also spending a lot of time catching up with RL things I’m behind with. Slowly catching up!

I managed to beat a few games in July at least:

  • Quantum Break
    Quantum Break

    16 hours playtime

    42 of 42 achievements

  • Wolfenstein: The New Order
    Wolfenstein: The New Order

    17 hours playtime

    41 of 50 achievements

  • Castle of Illusion
    Castle of Illusion

    4 hours playtime

    10 of 12 achievements

I’ll try to make some more detailed posts further on :)

I would have thought that Castle of Illusion is longer than that. What is it easy, or are you good at platformer ?
Congratz on catching up !

I’ve beat Castle of Illusion (lacking only 1 achievement) in 3,5h. So I say it’s super short.

I’d say it’s easy, surely way easier than Ori and Blind Forest. At least for me ; D

[BNB] KiiTa

Ori and the Blind forest can be really tricky for some part ^^ !

tso184

It’s quite short, and quite easy, even for people who aren’t good at platformer games. I’m mediocre, I often have a hard time to land difficult jumps, but I did manage to beat Ori and the Blind Forest on Hard, so I guess my platformer skills are decent enough. This game has five different worlds, with two levels plus one boss per world, an each level/boss is able to beat in about 2-3 minutes each, so for someone who’s really good at platforming, it would be possible to speedrun this game in a bit over 30 minutes probably.

Since it’s a port of an old console game, and these game are know for being harder, i thought it would have been longer. Thank you for the detailed answer !

tso184

It’s not really a port, more a remake - the game is quite different from the original, but it has a similar structure / level themes.

Is Quantum Break easy to max out? I thought that it’s harder and needs more than 16h to earn all achievements.

It has a pretty good system to go back and pick up the things you missed on the first playthrough, and make different choices, to get 100% of the things. For some of the collectibles I was missing after my first playthrough, I used a guide. I played the main game on Hard, then on easy for collecting the missing stuff.

The game wasn’t too hard until the last boss and the few battles leading up to it. Then it was frustrating, and I had to retry several times. I guess it would be possible to 100% it in 11-12 hours for someone who is a bit more skilled and doesn’t miss collectibles the first time.

skanda

How did you manage to beat the Quantum Break final boss on hard?

tso184

By trying several times, over and over again. Using powers almost all the time when fighting the “minions”, and learning the patterns of the boss. This video helped a bit with the strategy.

Wow, nice progress still for somebody busy ;) Congrats!

Thanks :)

Man, 3.8 hours for 10/12 achievements in Castle of Illusion. I wish I could be you. =(
That game kicked my @ss and I never could defeat the final boss, disappointing my children and making me a failure as a father.

I feel bad for almost beating the final boss at my first attempt :/ Got to the last attack (where you have to dodge two different attacks at the same time), but only had one “hitpoint” left then, so I didn’t manage to beat it. Then I had some bad luck and needed several attempts before getting all the way through.

The second to last level (Castle 2) was what gave me the most trouble, especially the water part.

The climb up to the last boss wasn’t fun either, but I started that level with 5 hitpoints and managed to make it all the way without dying once, I was kind of lucky there. And very nervous at the end, with only one hitpoint left :D

Many of the achievements aren’t that tricky. I don’t have all the collectibles achievements, but I did collect all the peppers and playing cards. I found 4/5 of the peppers and 3/5 of the cards in my main playthrough, and then checked a guide and went back for the missing ones, that was quite quick!

The superbounce achievement wasn’t that difficult when trying in the right place. Still took me maybe 10 or so tries, but with maybe 30-40 seconds per try, it wasn’t that much time needed. I did it the same way as this guide

I played the game with a gamepad, I imagine that helped me a lot compared to if I would have been playing with a keyboard.

Trent

I don’t remember the water part of Castle 2, but I certainly remember that climb up to the last boss. Ugh.

I got a few cards/peppers, but I didn’t actively go after them. I didn’t want to have to restart the levels any more than I already did.

I was also using a gamepad.
