December’s Stats

aka. End of the year backlog overflow

The end of this weird doomed year is finally here, and I’m glad it’s over, even if 2021 doesn’t much shinier from here. As usual with the holiday season, I got quite a few additions to my backlog, and only managed to beat 3 so it’s a crushing backlog victory. That being said, I’m happy with what I played and I had a really good gaming time. I’ll be back in a few days (hopefully) with my yearly stats report, but until then, I hope you had a good holiday season and I wish you all the best for 2021.

Haven

15 hours playtime, 25 of 30 achievements

Haven's theme was not much my cup of tea as I don't care much about romance. That being said, the gameplay was fun enough for me to play the whole thing. The exploration part consist in gliding around the planet where those space Romeo & Juliet lovers have crashlanded and try to collect things to repair their ship while trying to solve what is going on with the planet itself. It's not gonna be everyone's thing but it's a nice chill game with an amazing soundtrack.

El Hijo - A Wild West Tale

13 hours playtime, 17 of 22 achievements

El Hijo was a surprising little stealth indie game wrapped in a gorgeous animated style spaghetti western package. It's non violent, gorgeous but sadly it's not without its defaults when it comes to some approximations in the controls, which can be annoying for a stealth game. That being said, I enjoyed the whole experience despite its flaws and would recommend it at a discounted price.

The Dungeon Of Naheulbeuk: The Amulet Of Chaos

41 hours playtime, 39 of 65 achievements

My biggest chunk of gaming this month if I ignore all the hours put in Animal Crossing. It was a really solid turned based tactics RPG and I loved every bit of it. It had a sweet and sour taste for me as it's based on a super old french audio humour adventure (circa 2000s) which I use to love back then. Well turns out that kind of humour hasn't aged well and the original french dubbing is painful to endure. That being said, the english dubbing is much superior and since I played the game that way, I really had a great time. Recommended for tactics fans who don't take themselves too seriously.

Wow, hiding the other 16 pages of games added to the backlog

 I-i-i-i am innocent. This is not the yearly report yet, it’s enough for december

How’s Rogue Legacy 2 so far and did you played the first game? I remember quite enjoying it and liked the random heroes and their quirks, but never finished the game.

EvilBlackSheep

I had played the first one, but like you never finished it. I liked the first one quite a lot, mostly the game that got me into roguelikes initially, but I was feeling the controls were a bit wonky sometimes.

So, I only played a bit of this second one to “try” and feel how the game is, since it’s still in EA and I don’t want to burnout before the game is completed. The game is still clearly in progress of being made as all the areas/biomes have not been implemented yet, but it already feels like a great improvement to the first one control wise. The game seems smoother and more precise and for what I’ve played, yes I did die quite a lot but I never had the feeling it was because of the controls being unresponsive. I think if you liked the first one and want more of it but better, then you’d like this too. :)

Traqie

Now that you mention it, I remember not controls being not right in the first game. Are there any other significant changes in second?

EvilBlackSheep

Well there are a bunch of small differences in the “village” part, and I feel everything is more polished and diverse than in the first one but to me the most significant is the better controls, as it directly affects the gameplay.

I’m really looking forward to playing Haven and El Hijo! I’m glad you enjoyed both.
Also, Horizon and Journey as additions seems exciting. I have Horizon but can’t play yet, and Journey’s pretty high on my wishlist.

EvilBlackSheep

HZD is the only thing I got myself during those sales but I’m afraid it won’t run on my gaming PC cuz it’s a bit old now (the pc). I’ll see if it does, if not when I finally find a new GPU and update my configuration. Journey will get played soon :)

aonrao

I also can’t run Horizon but I can’t get a PC that is able to run it either. :P
If you manage to play it I’ll be looking forward to see what you think of it!
