⭐ Completed Games of the Month: February 2025 ⭐

Ending the month with ANOTHER grand total of ZERO games completed this month! It seems like figuring out PhD admissions (just got accepted into a program) and publishing a book at the same time tends to reduce gaming time :D

Damn, publishing a book? Spill the beans!

VinroyIsViral

Just released it recently! It’s a children’s fact book. Not my best work, but it was nice to make as a proof of concept! Now that I understand the process, I can go a bit more ham >:)

Here is the book (dunno if I’m allowed to do this, but oh well): https://www.amazon.com/Mind-Blowing-Facts-Curious-Kids-Incredible/dp/B0DZL6X44M

I definitely love being the “Did you know?” person :D even if I keep hearing that it’s all useless trivia…

I keep hearing that doing this “self-published author” thing on Amazon can be quite lucrative if one knows how to go about it, too, so good on you for getting into it!

VinroyIsViral

Hey, I don’t think anything is truly useless if someone is interested in it, so I’ll keep liking my “useless” trivia over here and use it to beat my friends in Jeopardy >:)

Also, yeah! It has a ton of potential, but a lot of people quit early due to wanting to take the easy way out and making, honestly, pretty low-quality books (e.g., AI book covers, etc). Trying my best to create stuff that the market wants and also enjoying myself in the process!

Amitte

:O I love Jeopardy!! It’s only become my second favorite after I got hooked on The Weakest Link. I liked it enough at one point, I almost thought about going on myself… but not really, the idea of crumbling under pressure and being made into a meme afterwards is nightmarish enough to keep me at bay.

I think the reason I get told the trivia I know is useless is because I have popculture (broadly speaking) autism (not a joke), though still in a narrow sense (hyperfixations go brrr). I’m sure if I asked what kind of trivia is not “useless” in comparison, there wouldn’t be a good answer for it, but it still kills the enthusiasm.

Yeah, that reminds me of how my mom suggested I should try making activity sheets for kindergarten or elementary school, since apparently there’s a lot of money to be made there. Something I’m not sure people realize is, if everyone tries to get into a supposedly lucrative endeavour, no one’s gonna earn as much as they were initially promised.
I never did follow up on that because no ideas ever really came to mind and I sure as hell wasn’t going to use AI to generate anything. I’d sooner write a fanfic and try to publish that (which is saying a lot, cause the idea of reading fanfic in book form is mindblowing to me, and not in the cool way.)
I definitely should get into translation, though! I keep talking about it, but then I never do it because I suck at sticking to self-made routines… or making them in the first place (lol)

VinroyIsViral

Yup! It is really fun to play despite how HARD it can be. I tend to absolutely suck at the pop culture topics, funnily enough considering you have a hyperfixation on that. I just have absolutely no care for most pop culture topics because I don’t really care about the lives of other people or the hit things that the masses like (not trying to sound any type of way here).

And yeah, there is no such thing as “useful” and “useless” information that encompasses all people, IMO. Knowing the inner mechanisms of metabolic pathways is highly useful for me, but for most others, that information would be entirely useless. But at the same time, this information is necessary in advancing medical pursuits and things that benefit all people, so the terms “useless” and “useful” here are just inherently flawed.

Also, regarding the activity sheets, those are quite lucrative, I’ve heard. I don’t hear too many people talk about them, but I plan on making a few to diversify my business ventures in the future. You can also pay people to make the sheets for you and then resell them for yourself if that’s of interest.

Regarding translation, you should just go for it! Start your day off by making a profile on Upwork/Fiverr and listing your services! The best time to jump on something you want to do is the present (or the day after, lol)!

If only Jeopardy was a team effort, we could complete each other :’D

Oh, I’ve got major Hype Aversion™️ myself; the hype has to die down before I can even think of checking a thing out. Some things also get memed to hell and back in the time before I check them out and if that reputation preceeds them, sometimes I end up not enjoying them at all (even if the memes are funny.)

Yeah, I think we all even each other out, at the end of the day. It’s just that this capitalistic hellscape we live in has conditioned me to think about how difficult it is to make a living out of my interests, I’m pretty sure. “You’re either some type of asshole or a video essayist” came to mind for some reason, lol.

I hate sounding like I’m looking for excuses (it’s come out in therapy that I do this a lot), but one thing that’s always intimidated me about Fiverr (and Upwork, too, by extension) is that whoever’s listing you check out, they seem to have their shit together. I don’t know how I could compete with someone who’s been in the profession since the year I was born >.> I technically didn’t even get anything out of uni since no real value is being put on bachelor’s degrees in Poland, sigh.
…so I’ve just been psyching myself up all this time in hopes of starting a translation blog and just doing whatever I feel like until an opportunity comes my way. Surely much less stable, but it’s the one thing that’s been on my mind for years, even before I first went to uni.

This is pretty fair, haha! I’m exactly that way. Even if I was interested in something or liked it, once it becomes mainstream, it suddenly just feels less impactful/significant to me. Maybe I just don’t like people in general, lol.

That’s fair. I definitely lucked out having an interest in something that makes money in this society, but I think these days it is even better than ever for people in the “”””””””"”non-essential”””””””””” fields to make a living off their interests, even if they need to take a path that is a bit less guided than others. I think modern-day society has also shifted the dial on what level of “success” makes us happy. We think we need so much in life due to constant dopamine and exposure to different lifestyles when we should just learn to be happy with less and enjoy life for what it is while going after our goals.

My counterpoint to this way of thinking is… will you ever be the best in anything you do? I personally think that there is always someone out there who is better than you at something, and when they started, there was always someone better than them (usually). People don’t start with expertise; they create it and develop it over time. Failing and learning is way better than just watching people do what you want to do from the sideline and then feeling bad that you don’t have what it takes to do the same. Not trying to lecture or anything, but I just want you to realize that you’re the only person holding you back from doing what you really want to do! Nobody is telling you that you can’t do this (and if they are, then that’s their own deal).

Think about this… if you started a translation blog now and establish a footprint then you’ve officially started building credibility. You’re doing something that many people wouldn’t even try to start, and in a year’s time, you’ll have significantly more credibility. You gotta start from somewhere :)

Thank you! It’s been a lot of work, but I finally feel like I’m starting to progress in life (to an extent).
