Monthly Update #33: January 2022

New Year, New Me.. kinda

So massive achievement this month...
I 100% Witcher 3!!!

And that's about it. I started a few other games, in a bit of a depression after completing Witcher 3 and not being able to decide what to play. Then I was sick for a couple of weeks (negative to COVID though..) and then I went to the Beach last week and have been in bed again with massive sunburn haha. Forgot to reapply sunscreen after swimming - Australia sun is not forgiving at all. :(
But hey, a massive game done!

Completed/Beaten

Half-Life 2

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

170.4 hours
78 of 78 achievements

May/June last year I played about 70 hours and had gotten to the Kaer Morhen quest line on 'Just the Story' difficulty.

This month, I played through the rest of the base game and DLCs. Then went back for more and played New Game+ on Death March.
I'm crazy. So yeah. I really enjoyed 100%ing this game.
The only achievement I really disliked was the Master Marksman achievement. It requires 50 headshot kills with the Crossbow. Worst achievement.

If you end up going for 100%, I recommend making sure you check a guide for Gwent and missable cards. I missed one in my first play through early, so had to do this achievement in my Death March run. Death March wasn't to hard in New Game+ as Geralt, as I had fully geared him and went an Alchemy build.

Only real struggle with this build was the last boss battle, which I died repeatedly in. My issue was playing as Ciri. I ended up modding her, because they don't allow you to change skills/gear etc., and the combat is already awful enough on K&M. :(

Mods I used and recommend:
The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project
All Quest Objectives on Map
Over 9000 - Weight Limit Mod
High Level Ciri I went so well with Ciri in Death March until the Crone fight. Then gave up and downloaded a mod lol. She hits like a wet noodle and would die in 2-3 hits…
Master Marksman Achievement Tracker (Worst achievement, this made it bearable…)

Also if anyone else wants to 100% this game - for Master Marksman, don't do this achievement in New Game+. Load a late game save and go back to Velen and slaughter low level bandits in Devil's Pit. I originally tried this achievement at my endgame New Game+ DM save, and it took so long to get a few kills due to having to get the enemies health down so the arrow would be able to kill them. In comparison when I loaded a previous save, the bandits died with 2 arrows.

It was interesting seeing different choices through my second play through. I tried to change most choices up. I feel like my first game ending had a better world, bitter sweet ending for Geralt and co., while my second play through the world ended up hellish with a good kind of ending for Geralt and co.! I also noticed some quests I did, choosing another option pretty much finished the quest straight away so you missed a chunk of content. There was a side quest I remember with a woman's sister who went missing. In my second play through I took the easy way so missed what happened. Some quests however ended in a similar way, just got there differently. The Tower of Mice quest with Keira Metz for example, both endings were essentially the same result, but I enjoyed both in how they got there!

Speaking of different choices: I went back to a previous save to get the second ending achievement for Blood and Wine DLC - Wtf was with that sex scene haha

I really enjoyed in my New Game+ play through seeing a familiar character from Hearts and Stone DLC in White Orchard - someone I had not even noticed previously.

Oh and SO many screenshots. I used Nvidia Ansel to take them, as Witcher 3 doesn't have a Photo Mode unfortunately. I tried mods last year when I played, but they just weren't great.

Played

Not sure what to play now.
Sherlock Holmes really frustrated me. There are parts you have to observe people and click certain items on them to create a profile. I think it might be the resolution on the ultrawide, but it was constantly bugged. I finally rage quit at some nobles house after it refused to let me click on the ring haha.
Hitman 2 I died in the tutorial...
Outer Wilds.. who knows what's going on there. It feels very aimless so far. I'm guessing it's a game you just throw yourself at things until something works, but it's so far not a very pretty world to explore - which I'm guessing exploring and interacting with stuff is the goal.
Started a new game in HZD, as it's been awhile now since I last played. Trying to fill that Open World void in my heart now :D

Haha thank you!

I have been tempted to spend money on more games with the sale on at the moment.. but I already have a lot I should play first. :P

Congratulations on all of your assassinations! Beating The Witcher 3 is HUGE! I hope to accomplish the same goal one day!

Thank you!
I actually found it alright to 100% once I was in the mood. I found it easier than some games that only take 5 hours to complete. Just those last few pesky achievements :)

Zelrune

I know what you mean, some genre’s are easier to complete than others. I have more fun with open worlds than a platformer so it’s easier to beat.
Looking forward to hopefully playing it this year after I beat The Witcher 2.
