February update

Click here to jump to the next update

Overall backlog progress:
26% completed
51% beaten
3% unfinished
4% never played
16% won't play

Pros:
- Geeky physics plot background
- Good graphic
- Dynamic combat
- Checkpoint system which allows to easily go back to certain part of the game or movie sequence
- 3 different endings based on our choices

Cons:
- Huge system requirements
- A lot of jumping in time back and forth that resulted in me lost track of what's going around
- Really lazy editing of movie parts (in one scene bodies can lay in totally different positions than in scene that was 1s before)
- Building up alien-isolation like atmosphere to... end it with nothing
- Annoying last boss battle

Conclusion:

This game has really big requirements, when I started it on medium settings I had 5 - 10 FPS. So it was unplayable on R9 280X. I won't write about plot to not spoil things, but it was nice. Although I did lose track of what was happening due to time jumping, so it was bit messy.

But combat is enjoyable (with ability to slow down time, stop it in small area, cause time explosion or dash in certain direction). On top of that we can use pistols, machine guns or shotguns. Plus enemies are diverse and need a little different approach.

Next month gaming:

- Earthlock - simple RPG with running around and jRPGs battle system. I like it, but controls are sometimes not intuitive, inability to assign any attack to keys you want is annoying, and camera work is not always best.

- The Walking Dead Season 2 - I already beat DRM-free version, but it's time to beat Steam one as well. And I think it will be my last game from Telltale. They are so similar to each other and not innovative I feel like I play in copy of a copy of a copy. Only exception was Tales from Borderlands which I loved because of it's humor.

On hold:

- Styx: Master of Shadows - it was started 3 months ago and is currently "on hold". As like I said above - I'm over saturated with stealth games.

- Snake Pass - keyboard and mouse controls are not the best. Which make game focused on precise controlling annoying.

- Stories - Path of Destinies - just like with Snake Pass. I really liked this game, but inability to change pre-set controls on keyboard is lame. I will have to wait till I get controller at some point to play, even when I really liked it. Seriously, who though that using both left alt and control for combat along WSAD is a good idea?

Side note

I literally have now 11 games in my backlog. So games I want to beat. Sure, there are games like Worms Ultimate Mayhem or Hitman: Codename 47, but I don’t want to play in them. Either because I played in them long ago, or they were part of bundle I wanted to have for other games. There are also quite a lot of games I want to delete from my account, but they are part of some pack and I’d have to re-buy individual games to remove some trash that was added alongside them.

I’m also in state I don’t quite enjoy playing to begin with, so “ending” my steam backlog and not thinking I need to play in something to complete it (when I’m so close to it) will be something positive. And then I will be able to grab games I really want to play, and hopefully enjoy. That’s also one of the reasons why I basically stopped to enter in GAs on SG.

I was also quite close to get 2 more perfect games this month. But decided it’s not worth it to speedrun Quantum Break to get achievement for hard difficulty, or start Dex anew to sleep with every possible NPC there. And I’m happy with that, some time ago I would feel need to do it. Even when I wouldn’t enjoy it. Thanks to “100% achievement OCD” I had.

I also pretty much completed my driver course, so all I need to do is sign up for official exam and try to beat it. It was something that made me feel like I’m doing something useful for past 4 months, so I will need to find something else to do right now. Only problem is that I have no idea what that would be. Time will tell.

Wow - the whispered world looked kind of mehhh, but I didn’t know it was quite THAT bad. It makes me sad when devs push shoddy ports of their games, it’s a lack of attention and effort that can really ruin a game.

I heartily agree with you about Tacoma - especially the ‘it’s not an AI kills everyone’ story part! I love sci-fi, but for such an imaginative medium certain story lines just get done over and over again to the point where you see a handful of elements (empty ship, smart AI) and just go ‘okay it’s one of those stories again’. Tacoma is a really positive story I’m so glad exists.

I liked Dex a lot more than you did, but all of your negative points are ones I can’t argue with. I’m glad you at least had a pretty okay time with it!

Not to make my comment too long: but congratulations on your driving course! Just stay relaxed on your driving test and you’ll do fine.

Mskotor

First of all - thanks for wishes about my driving course :D I did pass internal test in driving school, so all I’m left with is signing for official exam. And pass it! On 5th or 10nd try xD

I would spend time to fix Whispered World if I’d know that puzzles are good. But Fnord already told me that they are meh. So I don’t feel like spending time fixing game that will be at best average.

I liked tacoma. It could be bit longer to give more background for characters. That’s my only “downside” here.

Cheers! :D

I just finish The Whispered World Special Edition last week so I could play Silence (since Silence is the second part) and yes its pretty a bad ported game, but if you like puzzles games and have to play the games in order (like me :P) after like 10 min of playing The Whispered World Special Edition its not that bad
I also had that the issue at the beggining where the action menu was not showing but for me it was only on the drawer and after that everything work as expected
To open the menu action you need to click on an item and dont let go until the menu shows (i dont know if my explanation is understandable but what i am trying to say is click and dont let go unitl the menu appears)

Mskotor

Yeah, I know what you mean. And I tried this solution with “hold LMB for long time to open up action menu”. But it didn’t work for me. I read that there are some SDK (?) packages that’d need to be installed or smth. So I resigned. I also like to play games in order, but this need here wasn’t strong enough to convince me to spend more time on it :D

skanda

I played Quantum Break on hard and I still haven’t managed to finish the boss fight… I need help!

Also, wow, liking Tacoma is a really risky thing to say. :P

Mskotor

I replayed this fight like 5 times on normal…. Most annoying parts are those waves of enemies. Boss drops then those energy bombs and they OHK you. So it was way more sneaky than rest of the game for me. Kill one, run away, wait till another victim will come in proximity. And save slow down time to be able to run away from “omfg huge time bomb” that is spammed at the end of the wave :D

Tacoma is really nice. And none of points brought up in that discussion speak to me. Why 2/6 crew members are not-hetero, when only 5% of population is not-straight?? Well they requested to be on the same ship, as they are together. Fat people on the space craft, ISS crew is fit! Well it’s world in which there are fully developed AIs, don’t think humanity have to care about overweight people in space, it’s surely not like in out times. And so on.
