Wow. Wow. I’m so glad I continued this. I had to restart after transferring computers and had to put it down for a bit to play shorter games. I was unfamiliar with the pause-play mechanics of the game so different from the FPS games I’ve been getting used to, but after getting used to it, it’s actually quite good (for me at least). I was also worried that I could get sucked into the story and play it and not do anything else the rest of the day, and that happened quite a bit. The story is engaging, and though it’s cliche (be the hero, save the world), there is an option to be a renegade. The side missions are also interesting and add to world-building.

Probably what I hate most is the planet exploration. It’s such an arduous task sometimes that I gave up on the side missions requiring me landing on the planets. I also got sick of the planet landing/take-off video sequence after a while. Sometimes, I just want to get on with the story and shoot enemies.

Still, it’s a great story and a great game. I immediately jumped into ME2 because I wanted more. I wish they’d put the entire series on Steam. It’s cheaper in our local currency. But I am planning to buy the entire series. I even already have the Origin app, ready to buy ‘em on sale. Not sure if the site can recognize my progress in that app though.

Planet exploration changes substantially in ME2. For me personally, ME2 is the crown jewel of the series, which is excellent. Even Andromeda is far better than was reported.

I have really fond memories of Mass Effect 1, though like Robilar ME2 was my overall favorite. Very few games had me as hype as I was at the end like ME1 did. Even if the overarching story is cliche, by god did I feel like the biggest fuckin hero of all time at the end (and I liked the credits song a lot, too).

Who did you romance? The options open up a ton in ME2, but for ME1 I romanced Ashley on my male Shepard. (and nobody as my female Shepard)

Nisbett

I failed to romance anyone with Male Shep by the end. I checked the guides after and found that I was supposed to go back to Normandy after getting grounded and talk to Joker. Was so focused on getting the mission done that I just jumped right into it.

MASS EFFECT! \o/

And yes, exploring the planets…. was… challenging? ;)

Also, just the same as TsuTsu: Who did you date? ;)

Nisbett

Not really challenging. More like annoying, having to drive a vehicle that bounces like it does and trying to go over steep mountains. Each time a mission requires that, I just wanted it to be over ASAP.

I was aiming for Kaidan but I messed up going back to Normandy or something. Was gonna go back and try to complete it but the closest save I have there is meeting the Salarian STG on Virmire, which means I have an entire mission ahead of me before I could proceed.

I even brought him with me in most missions thinking that will help somehow.

ninglor03

I liked the driving around thing in Andromeda though :]
But I guess it might take a while for you to get that far ^^

I confess: I never dated Kaidan in the first game! I was aiming for him in my first playthrough, buuuuut then I fell for Liara and that’s end of the story :D

Yeah, I know that. I kinda stuck to the ppl I dated mostly too :]

Mskotor

Spoiler!!

Kaidan always die as I’m fed up of this migraine thing and constant scratching his head when I approach him :blobevil:

ninglor03

I’m the same. But ssssssh ;)
Only dated him once he was a gay romance option!!!!!! excited

Mass Effect. My first and last love :D

Yeah, gameplay of 1st is not the best, esp when you try it after 2nd. Controls feel really clunky and I do think cover mechanic from ME2 (and later well polished in ME3) is way better.

Those side missions land-with-Mako- drive around missions can get repetitive, esp that planet bases are all the same… the same entrance, corridor and ending room. But story is good, so I’m glad I didn’t drop it along the way.

If you think landing / taking off animations are too long it’s good you didn’t play it near release… at least on my PC loading screen before entering Normandy was so damn long. Decontamination in progress, please stand by still haunts me in my dreams :sob: Here it’s only 20s D:. And I did a lot of back and forth between ship and Citadel xD

They gathered DLCs for ME3 into bundle and they can be bought with real cash instead of BW points… finally. I may buy them now, after so many years and owning only From Ashes (part of Deluxe Edition).

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw! It’s a Liara/Shep Baby! <333333333

Mskotor

I want my blue babies ; _ ;

ninglor03

Me tooooooooo!
Wait. If we BOTH dated Liara and BOTH want blue babies…. Is she cheating? O.O

Mskotor

Um… no? I don’t think so?

She was romancing me, you were only temporary side kick :33:

ninglor03

No! Not true! We had something real intense going on! Not too intense in two though. Guess she got there distracted by you only to work out, I was the true love after all! happy :P :D

Yeah, when I first played it, I found the controls clunky. I got used to it eventually and had to readjust when I played ME2. But the ME2 cover mechanic AND the ally AIs are better in ME2.

My god, that’s a long decontamination process.

Imma get ME3 and Andromeda hopefully this year. I’ve played a lot of my backlogs already so getting a couple of new games won’t be that bad.
