Trying to simplify my life...

What can I say? I am just trying to get through some very intense and stressful times, and part of me thinks there will always be another hurdle to jump. I just feel like I am juggling a million things all at once. I think I am killing it but it is definitely taking a toll on me emotionally and physically. I need to figure out how to make sure I get my video game time in. My wife does a great job at helping me accomplish that, she is definitely the love of my life.

But onto my passion... the games! I really want to know how everyone's Summer Sale is going! Any fantastic purchases that you have already consumed? Any purchases you are super excited about? What about those you are waiting on? I am really tempted to use the steam funds from all the Trading Cards I've sold to buy Shadow of Mordor... but I don't know how I feel about it as part of my New Years Resolution... no purchasing of games...

And as always I am messing with the layout of my posts... hopefully this all makes sense. Click the Steam icon to go to the steam page, the Photo to see screenshots I took, and Thumbs up or down to see my review on steam. I think this will help me create more concise posts and save me time in the end. Hopefully you like it! And if you think of anything else you would want to see on a game I have in my list below let me know!

On to the Games!

Space Run Galaxy

Space Run Galaxy

Long (>25 hours) Won on SteamGifts
30 of 30 achievements 78 hours playtime

I finally finished this up this month... it seemed to take forever to get the final mission done. It was pretty crazy and almost boring. I would say the last 25% gets really too grindy to be fun. But I still love the premise of the game. There is still a lot that I think the developer can do with this franchise moving forward. The ending definitely sets them up for another version of the game to come out in the future.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim S.E.

Long (>25 hours)
75 of 75 achievements 178 hours playtime

This took a while to complete too, but I decided to go back to it. I really focused hard and went full bore and just completing the achievements while having fun along the way. The expansions really helped the game out as far as content, and I hadn't played them before. This game me a fresh take on Skyrim that was needed for me to keep going and going and going in the game. As most games I decide to 100% I was getting rather tired of the game by the end...

Brigador

Brigador

In Progress Medium (10-25 hours) Won on SteamGifts
2 of 79 achievements 19 minutes playtime

Really didn't get too far into this. I think I am technically still in the tutorials... but I can see it might have potential or it could fall flat rather quickly. I also feel like this is a game I can pick up in short sessions rather than long drawn out sessions. But in the description is says it is roguelike... I haven't been exposed to that part of the game yet and it has me really curious.

Pillars of Eternity

Pillars of Eternity

In Progress Long (>25 hours) Won on SteamGifts
1 of 48 achievements 5 hours playtime

Pillars of Eternity seems like something I can really get into on days I want to really just consume games, but it might not work so well on days I don't have much time. It seems to take a bit to pull myself into the lore and such. I think this is because it is a lot of reading. Reading is nice, but sometimes you just want to crush something with a warhammer... but I am enjoying it non-the-less. But apparently... they raised their prices for the summer sale and are getting the hate from the internets... rightfully so.

Brigador is not really a roguelike, but it has randomly generated levels, outside of the campaign. It’s handled really well, you get money for completing missions, with that money you unlock new parts, vehicles, pilots and missions, and then you play those as well, so it has that nice progression loop. I’ve really enjoyed what I’ve seen of the game
thus far.

Pillars of Eternity did not really get a price raise in preparation for the summer sale, Paradox just raised the prices in certain regions and it was meant as a permanent price increase. Which they ended up getting a lot of flack for, and have openly stated that they’re trying to find a way to refund customers who end up buying things at the higher price, as they’ll be dropping it again as soon as Valve allows it (but they’re not sure if Steam actually allows a partial refund like that. And if not, they’ll allow a full refund, and if people decide to keep their games, they’ll donate all the money they get from the increased price to charities).

Glad someone is around to fill me in on the internet fickleness… :D So it seems it was a bad timing call on Paradox’s end, they have been a pretty good publisher so far.

Fnord

It was an allround bad call on Paradox’s end, as the entire thing made it look like they were out of touch with the economic reality of south America, Russia and a few other lower-income regions. But their response to the whole ordeal was at least the right one, to admit that they messed up, and then try to find a solution to it. It’s not the first time Paradox has made a bad call, but at least they’ve always taken responsibility for it.

That layout is the very definition of NOICE. Very nice and to the point.

Shadow of Mordor is a steal at this price and aside from couple of actual pieces of story most of DLC is buying power you don’t really need in the first place.

Thanks! I decided to save my steam credits for the end of the year as a reward to myself for not buying video games. Hopefully the winter sale will have it at close to the same price.

Pillars of Eternity win!! So lucky!

I am playing through Space Run Galaxy now myself. I’m level 15 and got to the last system now (40 hours in). Does the last system take 30 hours!? I am really loving the game. I can’t believe I’ve played it as long as I have. It’s just so easy to go “one more run”! I really wish the game loaded faster though. It takes forever to login.

Congrats on 100%ing it. May I ask, how do you get the 2 secret achievements? I haven’t found them.

TerinHD

Sorry for the late reply… went on vacation! Woooo… but the last system is a lot of grinding in my opinion. It will take awhile, don’t know exactly how long. The last mission is a terrible let down. Yeah, I just feel like the game has sooo much potential.

As far as the 2 secret achievements, there is one where you need to carry 40 cargo in one trip, another that is reveal all the secrets on the map, and finally defeat a boss in under 10 seconds. The other one you probably already have, if not it will just happen over the course of the game.

Lex

A reply! I thought I’d slipped through the cracks! I got defeat a boss in under 10 seconds. Will try for 40 cargo in one trip and hunt down the last secret. Thanks!

Maybe it has potential to be more, but I’ve had a ton of fun with it. I’ve gotten more hours out of it than 99% of the games in my library.
