April 2022 report

During April we played a lot again! I have also come back to Nancy after some time and I have really enjoyed it. :) My new milestone on completionist.me is 150 perfect games (just those with achievements) and I am proud that it’s Shadow of Mordor as it was quite an ordeal. ^^

Enough of small talks and now to the actual assassinations! Good luck in a new month and enjoy your games!

Great game from the Lord of the Rings universe! We play as Talion, captain of Gondor rangers, who is serving as a punishment on the Black Gate. His peaceful days with his family end when Sauron returns in all his glory. Black Hand of Sauron then takes the lives of all men stationed there and even Talion's family. In his last dying moments Celebrimbor's wraith bonds with him and offers him means to exact his revenge! But Celebrimbor isn't doing it just out of the love and seeks his own goals through Talion's body.

Shadow of Mordor offers a great gameplay of stealth approach mixed with action. We have at our disposal three weapons - sword, dagger and bow, which can be further enhanced by runes. Leveling up and opening new skills is a matter of course. As we are no heavy armored guardian it's better to use the full potential of our stealth abilities, but if we find ourselves in a tight spot we can wreak a havoc among enemies as Talion is a skilled swordsman, just beware of being overwhelmed! Both of these elements, stealth and direct fight, are pretty well done and bring a lot of fun! The principle of never ending army of Uruks and their constant leveling up through ranks brings another level of immersion as our fight never ends. In the army sheet we see the strength or weaknesses of the Captains and we can then help them raise to the Warchief rank or dominate them and get an intel on the other Captains, issue a death threat or even initiate a riot. There is really a lot to do and we will never be done. But, we don't have to do more than what's needed for a story progression. Truth is, that we can easily get stuck in infinite loop of Uruk hunting and become burned out a little (happened to me and the result was a few years break from the game). The story line is pretty much straightforward with a few sidequests on the way, but we can be quickly done with the main quest. There are no choices for us as we are just passive bystanders. Best characters (except Talion and Celebrimbor) are Torvin, dwarven master hunter, and well known Gollum.

Between the main story and side quest we can save human prisoners from Uruks grasp or search for collectibles that uncover insights about this world and memories of its varied inhabitants. We can also master each of our weapons and gain higher skills with them. Even though there is a lot to do around the wastes, it's still the same old song and in the end there is not much else to do.
After we are done with the main game we can continue in two additional campaigns - Lord of the Hunt and Bright Lord. In the Lord of the Hunt we are gonna help Torvin to stop Sauron forces using dangerous beasts in their armies. There are new enemies and skills waiting for us. Nothing extra though, still the same map and the enemies are not so different. But it was still fun. On the contrary Bright Lord is a pain in the back… the premise is fine, we are playing as Celebrimbor on a quest to turn Sauron's Warchiefs against him and ultimately defeat him. The execution is horrible though. So, we have less health and less skills than Talion. We also don't have our most crucial passive skill - focus, which makes our life a lot easier. There are hundreds of Uruks around us and there is basically no safe spot without them (except for Towers). We also can't give orders to dominated Uruks, which also sucks. The campaign is challenging, okay I get that, but it's not as much fun as with Talion.
And if we still have not enough we can test our skills in challenges with different conditions of winning. Some are pretty hard and require many tries to master. I didn't believed that I would be able to get the achievements for them, but to my surprise I came victorious… my heart suffered through the ordeal though. X)

So, I have really enjoyed it and can recommend it wholeheartedly to everyone. Also I think that all of the content bring the best experience and I have really loved how are the Captains and Warchiefs introduced with cheers (felt like I am in a ring with them), but truth is that it's pretty much stupid how they made a lot of separate DLC's. All they offer are new types of Captains with a squad and also a rune… so nothing much as you are quickly done with them and don't even notice they are something extra in the heat of a battle. This should have been a part of the game right from the beginning. Except for the Lord of the Hunt and Bright Lord DLC's they bring nothing new to the story (although we can argue about it even with those two). That's the only negative point about Shadow of Mordor. Oh and that stupid fact that the animated cheers are not disabled in the timed challenges and they instead count towards your total time. Super frustrating.

Half-Life 2

Enigmatis 3: The Shadow of Karkhala

3/5
5.1 hours

Final chapter in our hunt for a dangerous cultist who wants to summon ancient demon to our world. This time we are following him to a snowy peaks of Himalaya.

An okay HOG with nice colorful graphics and good puzzles (although one or two were re-used a lot for my taste). As a detective we still have to collect clues for our little deduction mini game, which is nice, just don't expect any deep insights from it. Story is pretty much standard for an Artifex Mundi HOG. Good for casual gaming.

Half-Life 2

Eventide 3: Legacy of Legends

2.5/5
3.0 hours

Really short hidden object game where we have to save the world from an evil ruler of the clouds. And as our family blood is filled with magic even our strictly scientific brother will uncover hidden powers! I have enjoyed the first two games in the series, but not so much this one, the story just felt pretty much stupid.

The visuals are yet again nice and colorful. Puzzles and hidden object scenes are very easy and don't offer any challenge. But for killing some time it’s fine, I suppose.

Nancy Drew: Secret of the Old Clock

Emily Crandall, owner of the Lilac Inn, needs help from our amateur detective Nancy Drew as inexplicable phenomena are surrounding Emily and she seems to be slowly losing her mind. To help her keep her sanity and the ownership of the inn Nancy has to solve riddles left behind by a wealthy patron who supposedly bequeathed some money for Emily's family in his last will…

We have standard Nancy game here with really clever puzzles requiring a lot of thinking and funny mini games, some of them also challenging (I enjoy making notes on puzzles and Nancy never disappoint me in this). This time we can aslo ride in a car around the city. We have to drive carefully or risk a damage to the car, which then needs costly repairs. Don't forget about fueling the tank regularly. For all of this we need money which can be earned by running errands in the city. They can be done indefinitely, which serves as protection from getting broke. The showdown with the villain happens in the car which was fun! Can recommend. :)

Nancy Drew: Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon

4/5

Lori Girard, wealthy and spoiled daughter of a prominent figure, invites bright minds in mystery solving (among them the Hardy boys and Nancy) to a haunted train. We will take the same route as the late owner of the train to hopefully end up in his secret golden mine. But the existence of the mine is believed to be a myth and its location remains to be unknown, but Lori hopes that some of the clever minds could find the map leading to it on the train. Not a difficult task for our Nancy!

Yet again standard Nancy Drew game with many logical puzzles and varied mini games. We have few train wagons to explore and later we will visit old train station and maybe even a gold mine. ;P Working with Hardy boys in person was fun, we usually just call them over the phone. I have felt a little bit lost on the train though as sometimes I knew what I should do, but I didn't have the things required for it - they are hidden pretty well.

Mad Max

Jumped back to Mad Max! Jeet's territory is on zero threat, now cleaning Gutgash's area. Worked even a little on the story and completed the second act. Also I can probably finish the game right away as Max will be soon maxed out… but I like to explore before going on with the main story….

Big thank you for my win <3

Nice job on 150 games, especially with something like that shadow game

Thank you. :3

Cool, congratulations!

Can you tell me how to make such a beautiful design? Is there an automatic editor or do you have to work manually with the HTML code?

Kyrrelin

Thank you. :3 And welcome on BLAEO! :D

I am using post generator made by kubikill. I really like it. It’s easy to use and you can nicely modify it to your liking.
For the overall look I have played a little with the HTML code by checking other posts and taking what I liked from them. ;) If you are fluent with coding you can make your posts completely different of course. :D

Edit: The big one with the picture is called Hero. It uses automatically hero picture from Steam. But sometimes I find nicer pictures on SteamDB so I set that instead. And you can use custom pictures, colors, size… almost anything.

Thank you very much
