March’s Stats

aka. Late report

I was out of town so this report is late. March was busy IRL so backlog progress has gone a bit down, but I managed to keep up with the 20/22 challenge, so there is that.

Tunic looks so cute! Is it difficult? I’ve seen that it has the corresponding store tag on Steam.

EvilBlackSheep

It’s not too daunting but it can have some difficult moments, some bosses are pretty annoying (and not necessarily in order of difficulty). There is an option in the menu to become invincible if you wish to though. The thing that frustrated me the most tbh is how unclear it was at some point what you had to do next. I feel like the devs want you to go online to check for guides (they admittedly want it for you to go cooperate with the community to discover all the secrets but it didn’t like that too much), which I would rather not.

Oh jeez, it’s the same justification as Siren on PS2. That doesn’t bode well. Is the arbitrary nonsense required to beat the game, or is it all for optional secrets? What’s the worst example of it, in your opinion?

EvilBlackSheep

Well it’s not required to get the ‘bad’ ending if you will, or if you’re extremely extremely smart with tons of times on your hands I guess but after a point I couldn’t be bothered anymore. It kind of ended up killing the fun for me (even tho i admit it’s overall a good game). Oh and after the bad ending to unlock the good one? The game goes from a zelda soulslike to a mostly convoluted puzzle enigma solving game. Not a major problem but it does turn off some people.

To me the worst example on how it’s how they intend it to be is that I got a press copy of the game for review purpose and since we were all under NDA and it was before release (hence no guide existed) the devs themselves made a discord just for people with review copies to help each other figure out wtf. And the proof that it was needed is that there was A LOT of people stuck not by difficulty but by not knowing where to go next at various points. :/

And if you mean the worst example of how annoying it gets : there is an ingame manual supposedly pointing out at what to do next as you get the pages. ALL of it is written in some code made up language so it’s as cryptic as can be. At some point in the progression I was kinda stuck for almost an hour not knowing where to go. It might not be annoying for most people (lots of people seemed to love this game) but I hate being forced to consult a guide to progress.
