September’s Stats

aka. F.A.I.L.U.R.E

Well well well… This was not a very productive month. I played quite a few games, but only managed to finish one. I was really close to finish the last DLC of Borderlands 2 but we couldn’t manage to fit it in the schedule before the month ended, so I guess it’ll be for next month. And I’m not gonna talk about my Gems of War addiction, because it’s really bad (the addiction, not the game). I hope your september was more productive than mine when it comes to the backlog.

I’m excited that October is finally here, because it’s Halloween season so I’ll be trying to play my scary games again. I’ll be away for a little more than a week during the month so we’ll see how it goes. Do any of you have special plans for October?

PS: Go play Cat Quest II if you liked the first one, it’s PAWESOME!!

I went back to Invisible Inc thanks to adam, who picked for me in PoP. I completely restarted the campaign, and what I didn't realize at first is that I also had the contengency plan DLC activated, which made the main campaign consequently longer than what I remembered. Nonetheless, it was a great coincidence because it was fitting for this month's theme, but also it made the game (which I already loved) even more interesting. Invisible Inc is such a good infiltration tactics game that I strongly recommend it to any turn based tactics lovers.

Hey, at least you finished something. I haven’t played anything other than Elite Dangerous ever since I bought it in late August. It’s one of those endless games. I don’t think I’ll be playing anything else any time soon. The other game left in my backlog will be staying there for some time.

EvilBlackSheep

Oh boi, I can see where this is going, I have a friend on steam who has hundreds (if not thousands) of hours in Elite Dangerous. I have never played it but it seems to be not only endless but also very addictive. At least you’re having fun, right?

IcyGlare

Yep. It’s fun. I hope it’s still fun after thousands of hours so I won’t feel that I need to buy a new PC to be able to run newer games. XD

You’re required to explain what that means now :glaaare:

The first step is to admit you have an addiction, talking about it should be next *pat pat*

JUST GET SPOOKED WITH THE MONTHLY THEME, NOTHING SPECIAL

Which games are you planning to play for spooktober?

Kaleith

Which games are you planning to play for spooktober?

Taking advantage of the new library beta filters I threw a bunch of horror-tagged games into a category in case the theme ended up being horror; I honestly haven’t decided yet. I hope I won’t reach 2/3 into the month without having playing anything, but right now I’m in a bit of a slump again >_>

EvilBlackSheep

I should do that too for a start. I’ve been in a slump too lately and I need to find something to motivate me again.

Forsaken

How stealthy is this game? That is if you tried that approach of course.

EvilBlackSheep

I would say quite stealthy. That is, after all, the main point of the game. Enter a facility, collect whatever you need to collect, exit. You might have to knock out a few guards depending on the configuration of the levels (and then be careful to have disappeared by the time he wakes up) but there is a good amount of things that can be done without even that, just by ninja’ing your way through the place and make good use of the tools at your disposal.

I mean of course you have the “possibility” to just shoot your way in, but not really either. In the sense that lethal weapon might be hard to acquire (especially for every member of your team), and most attack have a cooldown of several turn. Plus wrecking havoc raises the security level significantly, sending more guards your way and soon you’re in the middle of a mess that might be so much worse to get your team out alive. (It only happened once that i made an horrible judgement call and I ended up restarting the level instead of dealing with it).

I think it might be up your alley? Sadly there doesn’t seem to be a demo but i’d recommend you check some let’s play video on youtube and see if it’s the kind of game you’d enjoy, because i think it might be.

Forsaken

I had this game in my library but I deleted it for a number of reasons. I know it is supposed to be stealthy but I just don’t know how it works.

For example I recently played Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden (awesome game by the way) which has stealth but it doesn’t work the way I want it to since it’s still all about getting a good rng to get the hits/crits no matter how you play it. For example if you sneak upon a group of enemies without getting detected and you are all hidden behind covers, even when you kill an enemy with silenced weapons, noone directly looks at but who is in their “circle” zone, they still hear this and suddenly know exactly where you are and start attacking you when it’s their turn. You can’t “sneak” upon an enemy due to this because everyone has this massive circle around them and immediately upon entering this circle combat beings even when you are crouching behind them (they have eyes on the back of their heads apparently).

So to properly stealth according to game’s rules, you need to hope that someone will start patrolling and get away from the circles of the other enemies and try to kill him in one turn with silenced weapons so noone will hear the shots or the enemy won’t ask for reinforcements if you can’t get good hits/crits due to bad rng and fail to kill him in one turn. Not everyone patrols either by the way. I just don’t know how Invisible, Inc. fares since it’s also a turn based tactical game.

Thanks for the reply.

EvilBlackSheep

In invisible inc, the guards (and some drones) patrol either according to a pattern (that you can observe/predict if you have enough action point left) or are static. They all have a field of view, and if you manage to stay in cover and move where you need when they’re not looking, then you’re not detected. Some of the drone have a different detecting function that only scans a certain area around them at the beginning of their turn (like an echo) but trumps the cover because it’s more like a pulse wave scan.

If any of your action (either you or something you moved like opening a door) is noticed during your turn, then on their turn they come to investigate (or attack you) therefor changing their patrolling route.

Also, sometimes the patrolling patterns change after a while when the alarm level raise a certain point (you get a message from HQ telling you that the alarm level was raised and reinforcement arrived and the patrol routes were changed).

Of course if for example a guard notice you and shots at you, eventually the guards in the closeby rooms will hear and come see what is going on.

I’m not sure I explain well.

Maybe you can undelete the game if you ever want to give it another try and then redelete it if it’s still not your thing. That happens sometimes and it’s nobody’s fault, even good games are not for everybody’s tastes.

Forsaken

Ok that was the kind of information I was looking for. Thanks for the details. I know it’s possible to get the games back. I deleted it back when I didn’t have an alt account so I will most likely get it back and play it on alt in the future.

If some people knew some of the games I deleted, I think I would be lynched online.

EvilBlackSheep

No worry, if you have more specific questions feel free to ask.

As for deleted games, don’t worry, like I said some great games are not for everybody still. For example I have no doubt the Dark Souls series has its reasons to be so popular but i know it is not and will never be a game for me. Same goes for Eurotruck sim. Yet I don’t doubt those games have qualities or they wouldn’t be so popular, they’re just not for me.

JaffaCaffa

I heard from a few people that the Contengency Plan DLC is best played after you’ve already played through the main campaign as it’s much harder, do you disagree then? I was so close to playing Invis Inc last month been really itching for it (have played the first 2-3 hours already), own the DLC as well. Glad you enjoyed your time with it!

Hope you’re liking Dicey Dungeons as well, I’ve been binging videos of a couple youtubers playing it (like 40 episodes in 2 weeks bad..) and I’m in love, definitely on my go-to list to pick up for myself when I can!

Happy Halloween, enjoy getting spooked this month. 👻

EvilBlackSheep

I do not disagree about the contingency plan. I had play through the base game in normal mode back when i first got the game and reached the last mission, and then had a hard drive crash where I lost all my saves (yeah me for not using steam cloud back then), hence I never finished the game. This time around, i played in BEGINNER mode but with the DLC activated (i didn’t realize at first that it would impact the main campaign and when i did i was too far into the story) and it was significantly harder (even tho i was supposedly in an easier mode) and way longer. That being said the DLC does add interesting new mecanics and I really enjoyed it so, it depends what time you wanna dedicate to it.

I’m loving Dicey Dungeons, I really wanna put more time into it, especially now that they added achievements. It’s definitely one of my favourite deck building rogue like along with Slay the spire (but they’re quite different if you’ve seen playthrough of both you can tell). It’s a really cool game with well thought mecanics and pretty well balanced, but sometimes challenging when you advance in levels.

Happy halloween to you too, I hope you have fun too with spooky games ;)

JaffaCaffa

Ah okay, when you mentioned restarting the campaign I had no idea you were that far along. You hate to see it happen, at least you had the DLC changing up the content. Really appreciate the thorough response, was exactly what I was wondering. :)

I actually just started Slay the Spire and people kept pointing out similarities with the Jester (not so much rest of the game, as you said they’re different) and now that I’m playing Spire I’m like wow no kidding! Made going into it easier as I’d already heard about the infamous ‘small decks’ and removing cards. haha It’s been nice to get back into some roguelikes.

Thank you, I definitely will. 🎃

EvilBlackSheep

I’m a bit used to it by now… I also had a hard drive crash wipe my Fallout New Vegas progress when I had 50+ hours into it…
