October final update

It happened, after 3 months i actually beat Pillars of Eternity and it was really really underwhelming to the point i wished the expansion was the true main storyline. How many games have better dlc than the base game? Serious question.

Let’s get the elephant out of the room. Ashes of Ariandel got released, i played it, beat it and i’m getting increasily fed up with Myiazaki storytelling and his refusal to acknowledge what DS2 did right. At this point Miyazaki is no longer leaving crumbs, he’s throwing the whole bakery at us teasing for bread that’s not there, and at this point in time i’m pretty sure will never be there. End Rant DLC is fantastic, get it if you are a fan of the franchise. spoiler!

Onto less irritating games, i’m halfway through Hard Reset aka Doom 2016 on a budget (i know, bad joke) i am a fan of the studio behind it and the Shadow Warrior reboot so i wanted to support them waiting for a sale on the new SW2.
Also, after the chore that was Titan Quest, i’m relieved to say that Grim Dawn is an ARPG done right. It reminds me heavily of Path of Exile, but without the huge “you messed a point, so you are fucked” stats tree.

Beat The Darkness 2 over the weekend, ehhh okay~ish fps. I have some memories of the first one on ps3 and i swear it was more fun.
Runestone Keeper , i feel pretty bad for winning this game, any other winner maybe would have loved it and i robbed him from that opportunity. Not a huge fan of wild RNG and long ass grind to have any meaningful sense of progression. Sorry to disappoint all of you but i don’t think i’ll ever play this game again let alone beat it.

God Dark souls franchise is looking so interesting, I should try it out.
I find Darkness two meh too, I did all achievements for it tho. The co-op is kind of good, I focus more on the conversation with my friend than on the co-op and what I’m shooting at.
The joke was pretty good. It cracked a smile on my face. xD

Everything’s better with friends, they should use it as a slogan or something.

I read that the dlc for dark souls was very focused on pvp (which I don’t do) and not a lot on pve, do you agree with that?

Veckpreb

Well, they added a proper arena for pvp with matchmaking and…nothing else. Honestly ds3 has the worst pvp out of all 3 games.

Hm, what didn’t you like from the main story? I mean they gave you a valid and working reason why you are pursuing the “villain” and the world they crafted was consistent. All the lore pieces felt together. Granted it wasn’t the greatest story in history. But in all honesty the plot of Baldur’s Gate 1 can be summarized in 2 or 3 lines as well.

Veckpreb

The motivation to pursue the villain was kinda weak from the start, and the reveal of the “fated encounter” changed absolutely nothing and made it even weaker. Act 3 and 4 felt rushed and honestly kinda lazy, the last hours of the game consists of people (and gods) explaining the story and asking you what ending you prefer. Again, i can’t help myself but compare it with White March that was an absolute blast. Amidst all that mess that was act 3 i really liked how they tied the story of durance, that was good writing.

Adelion

Hm, I think I know what you mean. There was no real purpose for you to be inclined in the grand scheme. Other than that as a personal story it actually works quite well. You obtain a new power, you are irritated, you feel powerless, the only person who could have helped you went mad, making you even more anxious. So you are pursuing the only person who may be able to help you. And you have absolute freedom to chose you reason. You are asked multiple times why you are pursuing him. The only thing you actually can’t do is helping me which is a bit strange. Other than that I also count the whole discussion about the pros&cons of animancy (is it called like that in ehglish) to the main part since it is the driving force behind everything in the game (like nearly all companion quests, waidwens legacy and the story of Eothas).

But if motivation is your problem you should actually be fair and treat White March Part 1 the same. Because opening Durgan’s Battery is pretty much because someone you don’t know asked you to do it. White March Part 2 then is a completely different story although part 1 serves as a prelude. But your initial reason to help was even weaker then for the main quest.

WM started rather mundane, village in peril in need for your help, some hint here and there of the dangers but nothing more. Then WM2 comes and shit hits the fan.

I agree both stories were clichè, but WM was executed way better. I have high hopes for their next games, Tiranny and PoE2.
