Hello! nellyneko’s profile
My main strategy right now is to finish shorter games (puzzles, P&Cs, HOGs) and the games I had already started, and not to start new games and/or buy too many new ones (not going great right now).
Currently playing:
PC: Disco Elysium, Stardew Valley, Not For Broadcast
Switch: New Pokemon Snap, Link’s Awakening, Doraemon Story of Seasons

While Daerphen ist enjoying his holiday, I'll be taking over this round :) Since I'm a bit out of the loop regarding Challenge Me!s, I'll just copy over his rules from last time, with only one special rule for this round.
- One of the picked games has to be at least 10 years old, in accordance with the December monthly theme (anything from this list and probably all suggestions underneath, or use this tool to quickly find qualifying games; I'll update the list soon, sorry that it's taking so long ^^). This rule may be ignored if the pickee doesn't own any eligible games.
The main goal of this is of course to motivate you to reduce your backlog and help you pick some games to do just that. And you can help others do the same!
If you've used the Steam group forums at all, you may have also seen a suggestion about profile badges, including participation badges for themes. We thought for this additional and hopefully regular) event, we will give out two permanent badges that basically level up the more you participate, one for finishing challenges (up to 2 per month) and one for issuing challenges/picking for others. Since badges are still quite a ways off, we'll keep an internal spreadsheet for now, so if we ever implement that, your "progress" won't be lost ;)
This round will last until January 15th, 2018.
Post your application for this month’s challenge as a reply here. Please before doing so, read the corresponding section below. Also, if you decide to pick games for others, read the corresponding section before you do so. If you encounter any problem with the games that were picked for you (either technical or if you think they don’t follow the guidelines) and can’t solve it with your picker, please leave a message as a reply of the first comment.
Applicants’ guidelines
- Please make sure your games are sorted by completion before applying.
- If you so desire and you have at least 5 unplayed SG wins, the 5 games can be picked out of your SG wins (instead of only 2/5). Just note it in your application comment.
- Note in your post if you're ok playing multiplayer only games.
- Same for Early Access (I know some people want to wait for release).
- When you finish one (or more) of the games picked for you, please post an update by replying to your picker's comment.
- If the game has achievements, you can link to either the Steam or Astats page corresponding to your progress.
- If the game doesn't have achievements, please post a screenshot showing your completion.
- Finally, if you have completed all the games that were assigned to you but want another go at it, feel free to post another application.
Pickers’ guidelines
- You can pick for/challenge up to 2 fellow assassins, please refrain to pick more so everybody who wants to gets a chance at it.
- You can pick for anybody who has applied and hasn't been given a list yet, unless they specified otherwise (see next point). It is recommended to signal with a "reserved" comment that you're currently picking for that person. This way it'll avoid the situation where you spend time picking games just to come back to somebody's comment 2 minutes prior.
- Please use the following criteria when picking a list for somebody.
- Length-wise: at least 2 short games (under 10h to beat) and 2 medium (under 15-20h). You can use HLTB to check the time, or more conveniently the Enhanced Steam browser extension (it shows the HLTB time directly on the game's steam page). That rule can be overridden by the bottom (i.e. pick 5 short games) but not the other way around, as not everybody has the same time to dedicate to gaming.
- Pick two SG wins unless the person specified SG wins only, in which case pick only in the applicant's SG wins list.
- Quality-wise: at least 3 of the 5 games should have a positive (or above) rating. You can use this site to quickly sort games in a user's library by ratings (thanks to JaffaCaffa for the suggestion).
- Please, respect the applicant's choice regarding multiplayer-only and Early access games, as well as other requests (exclusion of certain genre etc.).
- Please use the code below to post your comment, it's already formatted, you just have to copy/paste & complete the data.
For Pickers. Just copy paste and complete the data :)

FAQ
Do I have to participate in this event?
No, this is an event to help you reduce your backlog. If you already have a plan and don't want anyone to pick games for you, you're free to ignore it.
What happens if I don’t participate in the event?
Absolutely nothing.
What happens if I play all the games picked for me this month?
Still nothing. (You might get a shiny profile badge at some later date. And you can come back for another batch.)
What if I don’t have time to play 5 games?
Don’t worry, one is enough, we’re just asking the pickers to select 5 to give the player a little choice.
One of the game picked for me won’t run on my computer for X or Y reason, what do I do?
If this happens, please notify the picker by replying his comment and ask them to pick a replacement. If the original picker don’t give you an answer within 24h, don’t panic, just leave a comment and we’ll pick one for you. Meanwhile, you could try one of the other picked games if you haven't played them all yet.
I played all 5 games that were picked for me and I want more!
If you have completed all 5 games and reported your completion to the original comment, you can make a new request for another list.
When picking for other people, can I only pick “never played” games?
Not necessarily, you can also pick games that seem to have been abandoned but haven’t been categorized as “won’t play”. No beaten or completed games, or games being currently played obviously.
Why are there so many rules for picking the games? I can’t be bothered!
We’re trying to make this enjoyable for everyone so if you decide to pick games for others, please read and follow the rules. I’ve tried to make it as easy as possible for the pickers too, but if it’s bothering you too much, remember you don’t need to pick games for others to join the challenge.
I’m new here, can I join the challenge?
Yes of course (and welcome to BLAEO). Please just be sure to have your games sorted by progress before signing up for the challenge, to make it easier for your picker.
This list is still under construction. Post your suggestions for other games fitting this month’s theme as a reply here - games that were originally released 10 years ago or earlier (remastered/anniversary etc. versions count as well, later released parts in a series that started over 10 years ago do not).

It’s taken me a few days, but the final list should be up to date now. If you don’t see your status reflected and I didn’t respond to you with an explanation, I probably missed your post, sorry! Please let me know if anything needs changing/updating.
Everyone who either finished at least one of their games for the July challenge or at least gave it a good try (more than 12 hrs played and a few achievements if applicable) has been added to my whitelist. I’ve put up a giveaway for you guys on steamgifts, and LadySanta added another, so make sure to check that out :)
Final stats:
Challenges finished: 42/74
Games finished: 50/86
Congrats to everyone who participated, even if you didn’t manage to finish your game last month (like me). In that case I hope you keep at it and maybe you can complete it this month :)
Some of you might remember our theme in April of the same name (and banner), and after several people asking for it (and us/me procrastinating a lot), we'll try to keep this as monthly event! We will (try to) start and end every round mid-month, so it overlaps with regular themes and gives you an option in case you don't like a theme or are already done with it. This is a work in progress and we would appreciate any feedback on how to improve on the concept.
The main goal of this is of course to motivate you to reduce your backlog and help you pick some games to do just that. And you can help others do the same! For our first instance of this event, we're mainly going with the original rules of the theme, but over the next month we'll likely tweak them, hopefully with your input!
This round will last until August 19th, the next one should start a few days before that (hopefully on the 15th).
If you decide to challenge an assassin that hasn’t applied yet, post your challenge as a reply to the second comment for tracking purposes. Please follow the pickers’ guideline below and use the same formatting (code ready to be copy/pasted and completed at the bottom of this post). Remember it’s your responsibility to notify your target, and if they accept your challenge, they’re free to challenge you back even if you already applied.
Applicants’ guidelines
- Please make sure your games are sorted by completion before applying.
- If you have in mind a specific person you want to pick games for you, specify it in your application and notify them. They have 24h to reply to your request, after that delay your request will most likely be filled by somebody else.
- If you so desire and you have at least 5 unplayed SG wins, the 5 games can be picked out of your SG wins (instead of only 2/5). Just note it in your application comment.
- Note in your post if you're ok playing multiplayer only games.

- If the person has specified somebody particular to pick game for them and the comment is less than a day old, please skip to the next comment. If it's been more than a day and the person still doesn't have a list, feel free to pick for them.

I haven’t written an update in a few months, so I’m probably missing a few games, but here’s what I thought …
Sherlock Holmes: The Devil’s Daughter (buy) - Interesting mix of QTEs, stealth, puzzles and just a story. There were different cases, some directly from the books, I believe (at least one short one I definitely remembered), and in between an overarching story was told. Some of the tasks were pretty annoying, but you can skip almost all of them (I don’t like stealth, probably took me over an hour to clear those 2 short passages for my last missing achievement). Overall I did enjoy the game, although I wasn’t that impressed with the graphics (for the original asking price I would have expected fewer repeated assets for the streets outside, and maybe some more random conversations to listen in on when passing people). I also felt that for some deductions you really could only guess and hope for the best, and you couldn’t take it back and were then stuck with inaccurate character profiles. (Luckily there’s no achievement for that)
Virginia (gift) - Super weird game. Your choices don’t influence the story, only a little bit of how much you see of this world, but I enjoyed the game a lot. The cinematic score fit really well, since it was pretty much like a movie.
Transistor (SG win) - Loved the graphics. Liked the music. Hated the gamplay. After playing Bastion, I expected this to be even better (everyone said it was), but I didn’t like the overheating or whatever in the fights, had to change tactics after almost every big fight :/ The boss fight was interesting though and I liked what I got from the story.
Orwell (gift) - I really enjoyed the story and some of the questions the game raised, but some of the decisions/results of decisions seemed a bit misleading (e.g. I uploaded info about 2 people having broken up or something else that clearly indicated they were a couple at some point, and days later, after new information, the supervisor was surprised that they were a couple - in every playthrough, no matter which bits of information I uploaded). (not sure why this shows 0/27 cheevos, I got them all …)
Brushwood Buddies (SG win) - Good puzzle + strategy game. Reminiscent of Doodle God, but here combinations actually made sense (for the most part). I managed to run into a game-breaking bug towards the end (an elevator disappeared and I couldn’t change the floor anymore), but I posted in the Steam forums and the dev helped me right away and sent me a fixed savefile. In the final level I managed to do it again, and he helped me again! (apparently I’m the only one who managed to do that, and even twice! - I knew why it happened after the first time, but the final level adds some pressure with disappearing objects, so I panicked and it happened again).
Hidden Folks (summer sale buy) - Super cute HOG with loads to discover besides just the stuff you have to find. It mixes in a few puzzle mechanics, which ramps up the level of difficulty quite a bit. But every item also has a cute description with some sort of hint, so it’s not too hard. After the first few levels I expected only about 3 h or total playtime, but the factory level the added was a lot bigger than previous levels and I needed about 5 hours in the end (I accidentally idled the game for about 40 minutes, blacklisting apparently means nothing to Idle Master ^^”). I heard they might add more levels to the game, looking forward to those :)
Under Leaves (summer sale buy) - Another super cute HOG, but in a completely different style. Here everything is pretty much in plain sight, but difficult to find because of the monochromatic images. I had to start over a few times because I just couldn’t find the last item in an early scene but wanted to get the achievement for playing with no hints. I finally got a good distribution the third time around :) (object placements change every time you play a scene, so a gameplay video only offers limited help).
Lion Quest (buy) - Yes, I love cute games! :D This is a zen platformer I’m really enjoying so far. I treid streaming it on twitch for a bit, but my internet connection is really shitty and also I’m not into commentary, so it’s pretty boring to watch I guess.
Parkitect (SG win) - It’s still in EA, so there’s not that much to do. There’s also no tutorial, so I have yet to figure out how to properly build a rollercoaster and why my transport tube thingies didn’t work. I just pieced some random rides and shops together to make a park, change prices and hired people and then watched my income go down :( No idea how to make it profitable yet. But it’s actively being developed, with regular updates every week, so I’m confident that it’ll be really enjoyable once it’s properly released. (I could probably also just search the internet … but I have games to play!)
The Walking Dead (buy) - Got challenged to play this for PoP7. I also got challenged to play Limbo, but it got really boring really fast, so I abandoned it (sorry people who loved Limbo!). This one I like so far. I’ve never read the comics or watched the series (I saw one episode, but I think it was one of those character background ones, and I didn’t know any of the characters, so it was pretty boring to me). As with all choice-based games, I’m not always 100% happy with the choices I’m offered, or the result is not what I intended (e.g. different tone than what I had in mind when I chose it), but overall this offers a good range of choices and you can even just say nothing. I’m about halfway through and hope I can finish it by next week. (And then focus on my theme game, which actually got chosen for me in the last PoP event I participated in, and is the only chosen game I couldn’t even start then.)
I also bought a few things during the summer sale, but only 6 new games (2 of which I’ve already completed!). I also got some soundtracks (really getting into game soundtracks lately, need to check my Humble library, should have a whole bunch of them there!) and some anime shows (time to dust off my Japanese, hopefully I haven’t forgotten everything yet XD).
Welcome to the sign-ups! Please reply here to let me know you’ll be participating in this month’s theme. Your comment should include the following information:
- the game you’ll be playing (title, Steam link)
- how much time you’ve spent in the game before starting the challenge
(preferably with a screenshot)(I realized I can just check your recently played games on the site to see if you’ve got 20 hours in the game! :D) - link to the game’s page on howlongtobeat.com and whether you’re going for Main, Main + Extras or Completionist with the corresponding time
- a link to your achievement page for the game (if applicable)
Rules + Guidelines
- Pick a game that takes at least 20 hours to beat according to HLTB.
- Unfinished games are fine, as long as you have at least 20 hours left in your game to the desired goal (ex. goal: 30 hours, played: 6 hours = yes! BUT goal: 22 hours, played: 3 hours = no!).
- If you don’t own such game, don’t like the one(s) you have or have completed all 20+ h games in your library, you can pick 2 games that together take at least 20 hours to complete (again, not counting already played/idled time).
- Please let me know when you’ve reached or even exceeded your goal by replying to the first comment.
- Idled time counts as played time, even if you have no achievements yet
- HLTB times can be off, it’s fine if you complete your game in under 20 hours (good job!)
- There may be a giveaway at the end of the month ;) (but there are no punishments or extra rewards for reaching/not reaching your goal)
- Never ending games are okay if you haven’t spent a significant amount in them yet and progress can be measured to some extent.
- If no/very few achievements are available or achievements aren’t linked to game progress, please take screenshots when you play and upload them as public to your Steam account (at the very least somewhere in the beginning and the end, to show your progress).
- I’ll add more as the questions roll in ;)
- That’s all I can think of for now.
- Enjoy! :D

Please comment here to sign up for our Rocket League tournament, to be held this Sunday (7th May), time to be determined by the participants (we can also switch to Saturday or even Monday if that’s better for the majority, or the weekend after if this is too short notice).
You can sign up alone or with a partner. Depending on how many people join, matches will be 2v2 or 3v3 - if very few people sign up, possibly 1v1. If you sign up by yourself, you’ll be matched (randomly) with another solo participant.
Teams will be matched the day before the tournament, but sign ups will remain open in case several people decide last minute to join.
I’d say we decide all further rules (game mode, stadium, best-of-3?) when more people have signed up. As opposed to the last tournament, I’d let the teams play amongst themselves and then have them report back in the Discord chat/provide screenshots of the results.

Teams and suggested match order
(Teams were selected randomly)
Round | Team A | Team B | Results | Winners |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | skanda + husband | (2:3) (0:4) | Team B | |
2 | SevenDeck + masquerade | bron99 + Crossbourne | (0:6) (3:6) | Team B |
3 | Grumpy + Shirl | Kap + kevgm | (4:1) (5:4) | Team A |
4 | Ratonhnhaké:ton + Crystal | ?? + ?? | - | Team A |
5 | RazorX + Garcias | bron99 + Crossbourne | (5:1) (4:1) | Team A |
6 | Grumpy + Shirl | Ratonhnhaké:ton + Crystal | (8:3) (5:0) | Team A |
7 | bron99 + Crossbourne | Ratonhnhaké:ton + Crystal | (7:0) (6:1) (6:0) | Team A |
8 | RazorX + Garcias | Grumpy + Shirl | (1:3) (0:2) (2:4) | Team B |
Best-of-3: Each round consists of 3 games, the team with the most wins (at least 2) moves to the finale (round 8). Rounds 1, 2, 3 and 4 can be played at the same time.
Since it’s not a lot of teams, round robin (everyone plays one match against everyone else) would also be possible, I think. Let me know which match type you’d prefer.
Note about the number of participants: If no-one else signs up until the match, or more people sign up but it’s still an uneven number, skanda would play with her husband. Skanda’s current partner (Crystal) would then team up with the last person missing a partner.
Start time: 3.30 pm GMT (countdown)
Place: Please make sure at least one player from each team joins the Discord chat to keep everyone updated about the status.
Game settings: Regular soccer mode on any field with normal boost pick-up locations (I don’t know what any of that is called, but you know what I mean - the vanilla version everyone can play)
Prizes: One in-game item per player who participates (and owns the game), given out after the tournament, provided by Lady Santa (they’re currently in my inventory - if we’re not friends on Steam yet, I’ll add you to give the item to you in Rocket League). I will use a randomizer to draw names as I go down the list of items, you’re free to trade these items later if you’d rather have another one.
