It’s been 2 weeks, so here I am again! I’ll probably change to sundays from now on. It doesn’t make much sense to post on a monday.

I always had difficulty to memorize japanese letters - if you don’t know, japanese uses 3 different alphabets: hiragana (for japanese words. There are around 80 of them), katakana (for foreign words. Another 80 letters) and kanji (those symbols that represent an entire word. 1000+ to memorize. T_T). This game only covers hiragana. It’s an j-rpg where enemies are japanese letters and to kill them, you must guess their correct counterpart in english or vice-versa. The story is boring, characters are bland and the combat is uninteresting and a bit grindy, but that is not the point of the game. It’s supposed to teach you everything you need to know about huragana and it does that very well. Well enough to overlook the bad parts.

TL;DR: The game promises to teach you hiragana and it definitely delivers on that.

The second game in the trilogy. (I’m starting the game about kanji later today). It improves a lot on the original formula, but the story is still uninteresting. You still need to guess the correct letter, but now in katakana, instead of hiragana. Combat is a bit better, but the added VN parts are just boring. I skipped it all. (There is also a bug that might freeze your screen during VN scenes)

TL;DR: Second game of the trilogy. It helps a lot with katakana.

I haven’t played much these weeks. I spent most of my time reading and watching stuff. Well, since I don’t have much to talk about game and I feel like writing about anime, that’s what I’m gonna do this week. Sorry if you only care about games! xD

Btw, here’s my MAL profile if you wanna be friends and/or share some suggestions! :)

edit: I almost forgot to say, since I could find those formatting templates from akantha’s profile (is he still around?), I had to find a collapsible box and after trying to find it for 30 minutes, I gave up and stole borrowed it from Arbiter Libera. I hope you don’t mind. :P

Believing in someone. That's a weird phrase, isn't it? After all, if you truly believed in a person, you wouldn't need to say, I believe you.

Boku dake ga Inai Machi roughly translates to "The city where only I don't exist." It's the name of the poem below, written by one of the main characters.

"When I get bigger, big enough to go somewhere by myself, I want to go to a land that’s far away.
I want to go to a faraway island. I want to go to an island that has no people. I want to go to an island that has no pain or sadness.
There are no adults, children, classmates, teachers or my mom on that island.
On that island, I can climb a tree when I want to climb, swim in the sea when I want to swim, and sleep when I want to sleep.
On the island, I think about the town that I left behind. Kids go to school, as if nothing has changed.
Adults go to the office, as if nothing has changed. Mom eats, as if nothing has changed.
When I think about the town without me, I feel a sense of relief. I want to go far, far away.”

A friend suggested it and I really liked this anime. It tells the story of Satoru Fujinuma who is wrongfully accused of murdering someone. When that happens, he is sent back to 1988. He soon realizes that this new murder may be connected to the abduction and killing of one of his classmates,a solitary and mysterious girl, named Kayo. (The girl who wrote the poem)

It's an amazing story full of twists, with a terrific soundtrack. I highly recommend it. There is a live action version on netflix called "Erased", in case you don't like anime.

Never trust anyone too much, remember the devil was once an angel.

I read the manga some time ago. It has 14 volumes and 140+ chapters, iirc. (Not that long for a manga) The premise of the story is quite interesting. Creatures called “ghouls” exist alongside humans and they blend in with society. However, they need human meat to survive and use their full power.

The story follows Ken Kaneki, a shy, bookish college student, who after meeting a girl that is an avid reader like himself, end up attacked by a ghoul, but instead of dying, he becomes a half-human, half-ghoul and thus begins his new, secret life.

Another anime with great action scenes and an awesome story that shows that life is not black and white, that sometimes human can be monsters and ghouls might be heroes.

I will save people with a smile! The Symbol of Peace cannot be daunted by evil. I smile to show the pressure of heroes and to trick the fear inside of me.

I watched the first 2 seasons a long time ago and decided to start the 3rd one, since it just finished airing in Japan. (I hate to watch 1 episode per week. I prefer to binge watch stuff)

“All men are not created equal.”

In this world, people now have "quirks," newly discovered super powers. Now, 80 percent of humanity possess various abilities. The rest is still powerless, including the main character, Izuku Midoriya whose dream has always been about being a hero, like his favorite superhero, All Might. This synopsys might make it sound childish and bland, but it's one of the best action animes of the last few years and it puts in perspective the quote above.

The fighting part is impeccable. Every single smash is awesome.

Music speaks to people's hearts, all throughout the world. I believe it's a powerful language.

I'm not into shoujos, so it was the first one I've tried. (if you don't know, japanese manga/anime are divided into categories according to its target audience. Shoujo and Josei are marketed for women and shounen and seinen, for men. Difference is that the first two usually have romance and girl protagonists, while the rest have more action/fights and male protagonist. Eg: Sailor Moon x Dragon Ball)

That said, I decided to give it a chance, since I love classical music and a friend recommended it to me. Besides, it would be a great oportunity to improve my katakana because most music related words in japanese are from english and therefore written in katakana. I haven't finished seasons 2 yet, but so far I cannot complain. Quite the opposite, it's actually really good. Besides the soundtrack being amazing (It's an anime about music, duh), I'm enjoying the story and most of the characters - although I'd prefer fewer of them, There are like 20 of them. I can't remember all those japanese names.

Only a fool leaves cash where a servant can find it,' he said.

I just started both. I can't talk much about it, but I'm liking them so far. Steins;Gate was suggested by a friend from Steam and 20th century boys from Blaeo. (Btw, thanks for the suggestion, msboring27!)

I'll definitely have more to say about it in the next update!

Mad props to you for actually making sense of my code, and I use that word loosely. I cobbled that from pieces and bits I found elsewhere so fair is fair. :D

Anyway, if you REALLY wanted a collapsible button layout I prototyped something along those lines for myself, but dropped it for couple of reasons:

  1. It was a chore to differentiate between buttons without a border or something, at least compared to tabs, because they lack that in-built “hover over” color functionality.
  2. I did not like how images “snapped” once you open the container. Didn’t find a workaround, but it should be doable.
  3. Ultimately, clicking the next button did not collapse the previous. This was really the main deal breaker for my format because it requires scrolling due to patented wall of text, but if you can keep it within one screen it should be way less of an issue.

Feel free to take a crack at it.

No idea how long that link is gonna last so probably best to back it up somewhere. I was doing some experimenting there so it’s kind of a mess, though.

Thanks, but I’m not that good with html nor coding in general. I could barely change a couple things in your code. Just looking at this pastebin code is giving me a headache. xD

Arbiter Libera

To be fair I know precisely what you mean when I come back to it after couple of months of inactivity.

Who the hell is responsible for writing this mess?

Oh…

msboring27

I haven’t watched the Erased anime but I have read the manga and from what I heard the anime has its own ending so if you want you can check out parts of the manga. I’m glad to hear you are enjoying 20th Century Boys!

LastM

I did not know that. In fact, the ending was the only thing I didn’t like that much about the anime. Thanks for the heads-up, I’ll check it out! :D
Btw, I heard the live action on netflix, isn’t all bad.

Minamimoto

Ah jeez now I want to watch anime again T^T I haven’t like for… two years I guess? But now and then someone like you talks about anime and I start to watch another 1-3 episodes of something until I get lazy again… Still have to watch Attack on Titan S3 at least <.<
Steins;Gate tho is my fav anime of all time and I hope you will enjoy it! Don’t lose your interest after some episodes as the anime starts kind of slowly but I promise it will be freaking awesome later on! I also want to suggest Shinsekai Yori. It’s a bit confusing and it may be the darkest anime I have ever seen but imo it’s pure art.

LastM

AoT season 3 is awesome! The manga is amazing as well. I highly recommend.
Honestly, I’m trying really hard to keep watching S;G. I’m sure it’s gonna get better, because you’re the 3rd person to recommend it, but damn, it’s pace is terrible.
Thanks for the suggestion! :)

Minamimoto

I really feel you. When I watched it some years ago it took me several months to finally get to the point where I couldn’t stop anymore. A lot of friends also have trouble with it but this slow beginning is really important tbh. I can’t imagine another way to tell the story and wouldn’t change a thing if I could rewrite it all. Maybe this can motivate you a bit :^) And I’m trying to keep up with SnK :,D

LastM

Good to hear. Season 3 had a bunch of big reveals about the titans, the world and what happened. I’m sure, you’ll enjoy it! :)
