March’s Stats

aka. the Backlog backfires

Hello there! How has it been a month already? Not much was accomplished, which I blame part on me being away for 2 weeks and part on Skatrzoo who got me playing Limbus Company, a new gacha game in the universe of Lobotomy Corp/Library of Ruina. Anyway, I’m not addicted and I can stop whenever I want. At least I did finally beat Hollow Knight (and what a great game it was). Apart from that, I only beat one other game which turned out to be quite disappointing sadly. Moving on.

Oh, and I might have caved to peer pressure and got myself a Steamdeck during the steam sales. Surely it’ll help tackle the backlog, right? Right ? Did you get yourself anything during the steam sale?

Smh always blaming the poor octopus for your gambling addiction. just go B U Y some lunacy and pull faust already :peek

EvilBlackSheep

It wasn’t enough that you pushed me to B U Y the season pass, now this…

Skatrzoo

season pass is cool and all, but do you really wanna miss out on being gripped by faust? didn’t think so

EvilBlackSheep

Vade retro octopus. Go gamble your own steam bucks, you know you want faust too.

Skatrzoo

No need, I’ll get either her or Outis when I use my guaranteed 3* no doubt

EvilBlackSheep

Yes, me too. FOR SURE THIS TIME.

Lengray

Congrats on your progress. How hard to beat was Hollow Knight? and I’m surprised about the short playtime of Road 96: Mile 0. How much did you like this prequel?

EvilBlackSheep

Congrats on your progress. How hard to beat was Hollow Knight?

Thank you. It was pretty okay. I wouldn’t say easy (keep in mind i have the vg skillz of a cooked potato), because it does get hard, but also the learning/difficulty curve is very well crafted so at no point I was about to abandon it. Yes i died a lot, but I had fun the whole time. Except in one facultative part that made me feel like i was playing meat boy. FUCK THAT. But as I said, facultative and doesn’t even have an achievement related to it, so for masochists only. :eyes: Overall, LOVED Hollow Knight.

I’m surprised about the short playtime of Road 96: Mile 0. How much did you like this prequel?

Not at all, I pretty much hated it review to come on Dystopeek soon™. It is short (5h is the whole playthrough with some retrying in the arcade parts in the process) and it is not what i expected from it gameplay wise. The story was okay but… if I wanted to play half of a mobile runner style game, I would have picked it on my own.

Lengray

Great to hear that about Hollow Knight. It’s been on my to-play-soon list for a long time and I was afraid it would be too hard.
And regarding Road 96, it’s sad to hear as I really liked the original game. I guess I’ll save my money for Coffee Talk 2.

EvilBlackSheep

Go for Hollow Knight, i don’t know why i waited so so long to play it! (Most likely same as you)

For Coffee talk 2 I have to report on it soon, so if you want i’ll let you know if it’s worth it or not (HOPEFULLY they didn’t fudge that one)

EvilBlackSheep

If you liked the first coffee talk, you can buy the second one ;) Sheep approuved.

Lengray

Thanks for the heads up. It’ll come right on time for my vacation next week, along with Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp on Switch.

EvilBlackSheep

Oh, let me know how is the Advance wars reboot ;) I use to love that franchise.

Lengray

Well, my pre-order got cancelled and I’m not sure I want to buy it new anymore. If I see a good deal for a used copy, I’ll get it at some point and in the meantime, I’ll just play the GBA/DS games. Coffee Talk 2 was a blast though and I completely agree with your review on Dystopeek.

EvilBlackSheep

Ugh, bummer for your preorder but totally understandable, I’m also in the bandwagon of waiting to play it later.

I’m so happy you loved Coffee Talk 2 though (and thanks for reading my review). This is hands down the most well crafted cozy game I’ve played in the past months.

Congrats on finishing Hollow Knight! I just started playing a metroidvania called Lone Fungus. It came out of early access a few days ago and definitely draws inspiration from Hollow Knight in a handful of ways – but also feels much more accessible; e.g., there are 4 different difficulty levels and you can also play on a custom difficulty and tailor things to your liking. It takes great care to explain diffferent mechanics like parrying and down-attacks, and it even allows you to have a dedicated down-slash button. This feels very welcoming for me, as I tend to struggle with platforming challenges and am still trying to get the hang of down-attacks lol. Anyway, I really like it so far! You should check it out next time you’re hankering for a metroidvania :-)

I’ll be waiting to hear your thoughts on Terra Nil! I loved the demo when I played it a few years ago. I contemplated a day-one buy but ended up getting Dredge instead haha. Will probably grab it when it gets a bit of a discount.

Oh, and how do you like The Pale Beyond? I don’t think I’d want to play it, I’m pretty sure it would stress me out to the max XD but I was enjoying the story by watching a YouTube playthrough. The streamer was doing different voices for all the characters and it was really lovely :-)

EvilBlackSheep

Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll check it out.

I think you did good to grab Dredge instead (even tho I haven’t played it it’s super high on my WL at the moment). Terra nil is not bad per se (even tho the more I play it the more i find flaws, i initially loved the gameplay), but it’s incredibly short for the price they’re asking for. It took me 5h to finish the story mode (only 4 maps). It then unlocks 4 variants of those maps, supposedly more complex but i’ve now come to the conclusion that they’re only RNG dependant. Either you get a good map generation and they’re easy or you get a bad one and they’re near impossible. I even have my doubt about replayability. All that being said, if the game was 10€ i’d recommend it easily but 25 ? Meh. If you have netflix tho, it’s free to play both on android & iOS (telling you because i only found out recently that netflix had games included).

I did like The Pale Beyond a lot but it’s not perfect. I feel like it’s a great narrative game with a meh survival/management part. Loved the story, found the management between absurd and unforgiving. If i would have had the choice I’d have made that game a VN instead (with decision choices) and remove the survival part. Actually I think a good let’s play is actually a better way to enjoy it XD
