So hmm…..first post. :3
Just kinda want a place to organize and keep all the “Play a Game You Won on Steamgifts” monthly challenge updates and thoughts on the games.
Might do some monthly backlog killing updates from now on. Not sure tho, as I’m the worst when it comes to keeping a schedule. xD
It’s probably gonna be a long one, cuz it’s many months in one, but bare with me. :P

Actually surprised that this game gave me a lot of emotions, considering I've already watched a playthrough and didn't like Chloe at all. I still don't like her, but she's pretty brave for letting Max choose at the end.

Still don't like the "All choices matter but not really" thing in these kinda games.
And I have no idea if it's the problem of my computer but I broke the game a lot of times, resulting in numerous animation problems, sometimes even forcing me to exit to main menu and replay the check point again, which is quite annoying.

But overall the game is pretty ok. It's got pretty good characters(although I didn't like them all that much) and ok story.
I just felt like the villian(avoiding spoilers here) has so much potential that got wasted. He could've been so much better. Perhaps it's because I expected a lot from him since I played the game cuz of how interesting he looks. Alas, I was disappointed.

Still, good game. I give it 6/10. (personal score) The game breaking part of it really subtracted a lot of points there, also I just can't bring myself to like Chloe, sorry.
Also, Mark Jefferson is god damn hot. :3

Initial reaction: I hate it. Not the gameplay. I hate its story cuz it's super depressing. Had to take a break from it for a while before finishing. Imo war is just stupid, and I have no idea why the characters in this game do what they do.
Also, Lugo killed the Radioman, which is like my favorite character. Why did he kill him all of a sudden? I have no idea. Lugo was like so calm before the Radioman helped him broadcast and then he just killed him after using him?! That dude was so chill when they came up. :c Had to redo that checkpoint with his cut-scene a few times cuz I suck at the game, but I don't mind at all since I can see the Radioman alive again. A shame that they decided to let him die. Maybe I should've guessed that they won't let him live, but what they did is just not cool.

However, the game play is pretty good, had lots of fun playing it until it got to the heavy stuff. So, it's still a good game. And you can say that the story is pretty good since I reacted this way, and you'll be right.

Overall, a good game. I'd recommend it to others, but I still hate it tho.

After a while: After watching some analysis and reviews on Youtube, I find myself completely changing my opinion on the story. Perhaps when I just finished it, I was so deep into the story that I just mentally don't feel that well. And also, never played much military shooter, so I wasn't really their target audience. After getting some distance and rest, the story really starts to stand out to me. There's little details that I missed, and speculations that I never thought of. And how they honestly did a really good job delivering the story. So yeah, definitely recommend it. Sadly it's underrated by so many critics.

Titan Souls

I played the whole game with xbox 360 controller. The game is.......just meh. Overrated imo. For these challenging games, I hold the believe that to not make players frustrated, you have to have a clean and responsive control. That way when the player dies, they won't blame it on the game, and get mad. Titan Souls doesn't have that. The movements are ok, the biggest problem is the rolling. Whenever I press the roll button, the character doesn't immediately roll. There'll be a not so obvious time frame between pressing it and rolling, thus making it a little bit frustrating for me to play. And some of the bosses really comes down to luck. If you get lucky, first try and you'll beat it.

And I have to say this, SPAWN ME AT THE GOD DAMN BOSS ENTRANCE WHENEVER I DIE. Like, holy crap is it annoying to die and have to either go up long stairs which you can't roll to make it faster, or walk through a long corridor, and then just to die again. It's like the game is punishing you for dying, even tho dying is part of the learning in this game. Is it so hard to just set the spawn point in front of the entrance?

So yeah, I kinda didn't like the game that much. The art style and music are quite nice tho.

Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons

Honestly, it was kinda meh. What I liked the most is the scenery and all the chair spots that you can take beautiful screenshots. As for the other parts, the game play is kinda ok. Not too challenging, and gets you to try coordinating your two hands. And the story.....I really can't say much about it, because I've already watched a playthrough of the game. But still, I didn't feel anything at all, I'd say mostly because, there's just kinda, too much plot holes(so to speak) in the story? Read through my screenshots then you'll kinda know why. :p And, I'm an emotional person especially when it comes to videogame stories. I cried when I played Ori and the Blind Forest and To The Moon even after watching countless play throughs of them. So, all I can say is maybe it didn't hit my soft spot, but the story is meh.

Overall, the game is ok. Feels a lot more like a walking simulator with added puzzles from time to time for me, but I really liked the art style and scenery.

Hiiro

Hiiro is honestly a really cute game. You won't die in the game at all(unless in the special mini game) so I won't really be frustrated by its platforming. It's also a free to explore game, so you have all the freedom and time to seek out every collectibles and look at all the beautiful scenery. Really liked it. :3

Lumino City

3 hours of playtime, 0 of 0 achievements
Personal rating: 6.5/10

Lumino City's art style is really unique and cool, but sometimes it's hard to tell perspective and depth. It's a point and click puzzle game. Maybe it's because I never really played much point and click games, but Lumi's movement speed is just frustrating to me. Especially if there's an item(i.e. key) you have to get in the previous section before you can advance to the next. Having to backtrack all the way back is really annoying.

As for the puzzle part, maybe I'm just too stupid. xD But most of them I couldn't solve on my own, and for me, I really get easily frustrated by puzzles and stuff, that's why I had a guide opened when I'm playing. I'll try to solve the puzzles myself first, but if after some time I still couldn't solve it, I'll look up the guide. I know myself too well that if I get too annoyed at a game I'll just abandon it all together, so yeah, a guide is needed.

However, overall I do enjoy playing the game. The puzzles gives my brain some exercise, the art style is cool, the music is also pretty nice. I like the game.

Back to Bed

Back to Bed.....such a creepy, weird but interesting game. When I started the game I was like: "Wtf, this is so weird. " but it's weird in an alluring way. It's a puzzle game(why wouldn't it be. xD) from my backlog. I really didn't expect anything from it, but it turned out pretty well.

For the normal mode, I'll be honest I looked up guides again. :P But like I said, only consulting them when I'm stuck, so it went pretty smoothly. What I really like is the nightmare mode. There's no steam guides for that, only video guides but it'll be pretty inconvenient to alt-tab out of the game to watch the video. In the end, I only watched the guide for 1 or 2 levels, the rest I solve them myself! Really proud because it's basically the original levels with a "key" mechanic, and it's really fun to try and figure out how to get them, especially when it requires you to think a bit differently. Also, the overall tune of the game although creepy, really fits the theme of dreams and nightmares. Really enjoyed the game. :)

For the November one, I’m gonna be playing Hacknet, so wish me good luck. :P

ninglor03

Woho! Welcome to Blaeo!
And no pressure with updating. Every now and than is still nice :)

Nice work you did there!
Have fun with Hacknet didn’t work out that well for me, but… yeah - good luck with that one ;)
Happy backlog killing :)

86maylin

Well, it’s also a thing that whenever I look at my backlog I just get deterred from the hugeness. xD
But oh well, I’ll try. :P

ninglor03

Weeeeeeell… more to play!

Blue Ϟ Lightning

Sheeepy!
I see you managed to format your first post nicely unlike the rest of us :notlikeblob:

You should also use this as a chance to get challenged by people for stuff >_< with the monthly challenge me.

86maylin

Do you know how to have like, section difference in posts? Like, sorta a small grey line in between sections sorta thing?
And, maybe next month. Won 2 games from PA and one is Borderlands which takes ages to finish, so I’m gonna be super busy. lol

Blue Ϟ Lightning

Oh wow lol I thought since you had made the banners you had it all figured out
That’s the hr tag

<hr

Blue Ϟ Lightning

Also while I’m here I might as well say.
Personally I like putting this tag at the top of my posts
<markdown style="color:#380B61">
And them changeing the color randomly each time…I think I’m one of the only people currently doing that.
The other thing you can probably find by looking at other people’s posts but they never tell you is how to make a bunch of stuff dissapeared
formatting is fucked I’ll just send on dicord

Forsaken

I just can’t bring myself to like Chloe, sorry. Also, Mark Jefferson is god damn hot. :3

Are you me?

LastM

Welcome to Blaeo! It’s good to see you around here!
You’ve been playing some great games! Congrats on beating them!
Titan Souls really infuriated me as well. It’s even worse when you forget that you can’t roll upstairs, but you do it anyway and is then pushed backed. Make you feel like throwing the controller at the wall. xD

ps: one of the best first posts I’ve seen! :)

86maylin

YES! Keep bumping into the stairs is the most annoying thing ever!
Although don’t throw your controller, he’s innocent. D:
Oh and, thank you for the compliment. x3

skanda

O hai!

considering I’ve already watched a playthrough and didn’t like Chloe at all.

Yeah, Chloe is really difficult to put up with, I couldn’t stand her either… But I’ve been playing the prequel for the last two days and at least she now makes more sense as a person.

86maylin

I just don’t get why a lot of people love her. Imo Warren is a much likeable character. That’s why I chose to kiss him instead, cuz he’s just so cute. :33:

skanda

Same! :D Kissed Warren, chose…err…you know what at the end of the game because the other choice just didn’t make any sense to me.

Formidolosus

Haha… yeah I also chose… you know what… based on the same logic, as underdeveloped as warren was I felt for the guy, because i was probably him at school.

Formidolosus

Spec ops definitely gets under your skin but damn it’s unique. I’ve played so many shooters over the years, and this was the first time I felt deeply uncomfortable to be the poster boy stereotype. I wasn’t too sad when Lugo shot the radioman, as I just saw it as the progression of all three of them losing their grip and his transition from the cocky sidekick to his final state of mind was a real punch to the gut. I think the main reason it was critically underrated was because it’s not so good as a shooter, but just about every critic seemed to agree that the premise and plot was unique.

86maylin

It’s just that I like radioman too much, so I’m biased on that part. :P
And well, lots of people seems to think its cover based shooter game part is meh. I personally find it quite enjoyable, perhaps due to me having not played any cover based shooter before, but still. :3

Formidolosus

Yeah it wasn’t that it was bad, it was just pretty generic, and your team mates, whilst a nice idea, did also seem to spend a lot of time needing your help, especially on the FUBAR setting. If they’d managed to polish the gameplay, coupled with THAT story, it would have easily been a classic of the likes of Bioshock. But as it stands it’s definitely one of the games I always list when I recommend games to people.
