November & December

The end of the year was a mess. Have been playing mostly Dragon’s Dogma and Deep Rock Galactic but both are still unfinished so didn’t put a post on November. Bought couple new games at the end of December so backlog grew again. With the winning of Witcher 3 GOTY, I’ll need whole spring to clear this mess.

DRG has been fun, especially in co-op, but requires so much game time. Getting near the end though, as I have now most of the season content unlocked. DD has been a solid disappointment. Haven’t been enjoying that one a bit. Hopefully your (previous) year of gaming has been good. Good moments for everyone in this year!

Congratulations on your assassinations and happy new year! You haven’t enjoyed Dragons Dogma? I had more fun on Hard mode! Enemies are difficult anyway but it was easier than normal mode because the rewards got pretty nuts so I got as strong as my enemies were. You can also borrow my pawn! I’ve 100%ind everything except bitterblack Island with him since I soloed most of it; Chantrieri is a maxed out tank! (Also, the Assassin job has double jump and I found it more fun than the mage class.)

No assassinations on previous month(s), unfortunately. January will likely be better as I get to finish at least couple ongoing ones.

Cannot really point why exactly I am not digging into DD. It was in my wishlist for a long time. Haven’t been this wrong about a game in quite a while. It tries to be more story heavy but story is boring. I like the setting but instead of getting progression about facing the dragon, I am cleaning laundry for some duke. Combat has its points but it is mostly dull and repetitive, especially against regular mobs. Damage has really wonky scaling e.g. can one shot low level goblins as a mage but will die against low level humans because spells do next to nothing for them. Getting companions is nice and the world feels a bit lively with people walking on roads. Overall, I feel like playing poor man’s Dark Souls and wishing to just get it done.

Sounds like you might just wanna get a couple blast bombs and walk into Bitterblack Island! It’s the DLC and admittingly, I loved the final boss fight more than the storyline final boss. I recommend soloing on hard mode for maximum EXP! Make sure you nab some Pilgrim’s Charm’s before you head on in, never know what you’re gonna kill.
If you continue with the main questline, I’m excited to hear how you liked the dragon fight! BRING A BOW.

Just finished the game. Completed it some time ago but kept on going for additional achievements. I seriously consider that the game was designed for bow and the rest of the class options are thrown in afterwards or meant for pawns. After around 40+ hours playing and hammering through end game and DLC as a fighter, I can state that game gives a solid middle finger to melee. So many design flaws in the game. Would need serious rebalancing to work as a solo game. Current design could work better on as multiplayer game. Beat most of the game. Left Death and Ur-Dragon alive. First was too much of a hassle and couldn’t kill the second one thanks to those two wing weakpoints.

Shame. It had nice ideas. Likely too ambitious project for the studio. Some of the behind the scenes notes also seem to indicate so.

Aha yeah, melee was too hard so I left my Pawn to tank! Try the Ur-Dragon again though with a AOE mage, such an incredible fight. How did you like Bitterblack Isle? Killing Death is super fun in Waterways, because you can actually make him throw himself over the edge and that kills him for easy EXP; although I like Soloing Bitter black Isle because sometimes the pawns just get in the way, Like fighting the giant eyeball, you can just turn around to avoid his major attack but the pawns aren’t that smart, I think.
The music for The final boss there was amazing, and it’s only a true ending if you beat him twice!!!

A lot of users invest into magic, and grappling if you are melee.

tubberware

I think that is how the game is designed to be played. Tanking role is much better suited for pawns. My tank main character agrees. :D Already uninstalled the game and won’t return to it. I tried to kill Ur-Dragon for hours. Or those last two weakpoints actually because all the others were quite easy. Multiple failed rounds doing no damage to them. Even tried switching back to mage and began leveling ranger vocation just to beat that one boss. Didn’t work and felt truly frustrated with that boss design.

Death was super annoying for me. Pawns really like going to die against it even if I kept commanding them to run away with me. The fight mechanism against Death as a melee is not fun. Poke, back, poke, back. Kiting as melee is just not fun. Knew about the Waterways trick as I watched a tutorial but decided that it wasn’t worth it.

Final boss was hard and only because of the vortex move. I was tanky enough that it couldn’t really kill me but weak that couldn’t really damage boss much. So it was a very long fight. Managed to avoid in my winning run the first vortex without losing any pawns. They all died in the second one but still won. I guess the design was alright in that one even if it was boring to grind him down as a tank.

I haven’t played DD yet but why was it disappointing? I know some people who praise this game a lot

Answered about his in post above.

That sucks, sorry you didn’t have fun with it. I have not played it yet but its never fun to sink a bunch of time into something that didn’t click. You made some good progress, hope you had a good New Years!

tubberware

It is a bummer as I was wishing for it for several years before getting it. :/ Oh well, will beat it this spring and move on. I should be (hopefully) over halfway point by now. I hope this year brings good gaming experiences to you!
