ABC Challenge (Point and Clicks)

Just got this idea and I really want to bring it to life. This will hang out here… for as long as the other posts cover it up, I guess! The reason why I’m not making this profile-only is that I’d love to get some suggestions on what you all think I could play for every letter.

Rules:

  • Each game on the list must be finished within the year it was started.
  • One game at a time, please!
  • Omit “A” and “The” in names (Come on, that would be just too easy.)
  • No chickening out! (Obviously. I’m trying to beat a backlog here.)

Missing letters: U, W, X, Y, Z

List is subject to change.

Let me get this straight, will the games that are not in your library yet do? Maybe I’ll come up with something.

Amitte

Sure, why not? There’s less of a chance I’ll get to them because of that, but I’m open for recommendations :D

Feel free to skip or ignore any of these, just an ABC list of somewhat remarkable (in my opinion) games.

Alter Ego - it’s a pretty short adventure from the team that made Black Mirror with a similar vibe (you have it)
Ben There, Dan That! - first part of a really humorous old school point & click filled to the brim with jokes and hilarious dialogues (as I see it), it’s also really short (you have it)
Charnel House Trilogy - this one’s pretty bad, and it has an awful voiceover by Jim Sterling. What kind of an ABC list would that be without a stinker :^) I mean, you have CAYNE, but iirc it’s a free spinoff for STASIS game, which you’re better off playing first.
Downfall - it’s a remake of a pretty depressing game by the guy who made an equally depressing Cat Lady. The voiceover is kinda bad most of the time, but it’s still pretty interesting. (you have it) I could’ve say Deponia The Complete Journey, since it’s a no-brainer, but it’s three games in one and it’s long
Edna and Harvey: The Breakout - it’s a bit out there when it comes to quest logic. You can try the second part, Harvey’s New Eyes first, it’s better imo, and you don’t really have to beat the Breakout first, the plot is almost non-related iirc.
FRAN BOW FRAN BOW FRAN BOW DO A FRAN BOW (you have it)
Ghostdream - dear god, I actually found a human being who has it besides me. Join me in my suffering and try to figure out the nonsencical puzzles and the reason why the author decided to add a weird triple reverb on every line he and some girl recorded. (you have it)
Her Story - pretty interesting concept.
I Have no Mouth And I Must Scream - Depressingcore classic. (you have it)
J… no idea here, sorry
Keepsake - heard some good things about it
Leisure Suit Larry 1 - In the Land of the Longue Lizards (I think it’s a VGA version on Steam?) - Great Sierra classic, but it may come off as really pervy and gross at times for some people (you have it)
MechaNika - heard some good things about it
(the) Night of the Rabbit - fairy-tale-like point&click from Daedalic
(the) Order of the Thorne: The King’s Challenge - it looks and feels exactly like Sierra’s King Quest
Primordia - ooh, that’s a good one
Quest for Infamy - see Order of the Thorne, but now it’s a Quest For Glory tribute (you have it)
Rusty Lake: Roots - (you have it) it’s a really good puzzle series, but if you want to go in order (you won’t get a coherent story anyway, but whatever), you start with Rusty Lake Hotel.
Sam & Max - I see you have Devil’s Playhouse, which is the third season, iirc. The first two are great.
Time Gentlemen, Please! - second part, continuation of Ben There, Dan That! (you have it)
U, V - sorry, nothing here too
(the) Whispered World - Daedalic’s classic
X - yeah, not sure about that one too
Yesterday - heard it’s pretty decent, but didn’t play it yet
And if you want to finish up strong and you’re ready to spend some money, you can try Zero Escape: The Nonary Games. It’s a mix of VN and puzzle-solving, and it’s AWESOME. The PC port for the first game (The Nonary Games is two games in one package) butchered some stuff in it, but it’s nothing critical aside from being dissapointing for the players who played the original DS version.

Amitte

That’s a good list! Thanks for all the suggestions ^^

Blue Ϟ Lightning

do you want to be added to the abc challenge masterpost?

Amitte

Heck yeah I do! It would be an honor <3

JaffaCaffa

I recommend Grim Fandango Remastered, Rusty Lake: Roots (I personally played it before the rest of the series) & The Last Door. :)

Def think it’s worth playing at least one of lucasarts P&Cs one day, whether it’s Grim Fandango, Full Throttle, Day of the Tentacle etc. as long as you have patience for some obscure puzzles. Have fun with the challenges!

Amitte

I’m already pretty pumped for Grim Fandango (got three copies of it, haha); Full Throttle and Day of the Tentacle look interesting too. Same with The Last Door. It’s kind of up to fate at this point though :D

Blue Ϟ Lightning

looking through the games you’ve sorted as P&C ones I liked.

D Deponia: The Complete Journey (although I saw you played the first one and the complete journey includes the first one so if theres no way to skip through the first part idk)
P Puzzle Agent

Amitte

I just hope the achevements from the first Deponia aren’t broken in The Complete Journey still… lowkey pissed at how Daedalic preferred to provide a “DIY fix” instead of just patching the game… grrr.

I’m enjoying Puzzle Agent, however! I only didn’t finish it so far because some of the riddles actually prove hard as time goes on :D

ninglor03

ONE more try…
I don’t like P&C that much anymore, so only the ones I know will end up in my list ^^

Broken Sword - bc apparently a must play?
Cognition: An Erica Reed Thriller (!)
Gray Matter - bc it’s a Jane Jensen game!
Jack Orlando Director’s Cut - childhood trauma. Never finished it, bc I was too stupid -.-
The Longest Journey - although I didn’t enjoy the first one as much, it’s still a great series. Yes, I totally still need to play the last one :]
Moebius: Empire Rising - my first Jane Jensen game! <3
Puzzle Agent!
(The Rosebud Condominium - rly, DON’T! ;) )

That’s it. Worked this time. Also super short :]

Amitte

I actually wanted to try out Cognition a few days ago, but damn does it need a lot of disk space!
Broken Sword and Gray Matter look really enticing ^^
The Longest Journey has to wait until I get Chapter 1~
Puzzle Agent… I’m gonna be getting back to that!

ninglor03

Haha, sure does. And time! \o/
Well, I’m more for Gray Matted, but yes, do it ;)
Oh, right. That’s already the second? Try the first first. Although… I rushed through it with guide? Abandoned and read the rest? The first was a pain… hide
I liked it a lot… but I guess it’s not working out for everyone?

Amitte

I got a small laptop, so… it’ll have to wait, at least until I get through all those VNs…
Gray Matter wants some disk space too! It’s real tough out here :/
Yup, yup! ‘m already entering all the giveaways on SG I can find for that (among, like, dozens of other games - oops)
No, it’s really cool, it’s just that the riddles got tougher and I kinda checked out on it… never said I gave up though!

ninglor03

One at a time seems like a good idea ^^
True. The riddles get more complex nod Also I wanted to check my old keys and see if I have something for you goes digging

Amitte

Yup! So it’s Hatoful Boyfriend now and then… hmm… I wonder~

I remember I even legit thought about inviting my mom to help me figure them out! :’D

O.O No. Way. A gift… for me…? OwO
