1 backlog, 100 visual novels

so… i really like visual novels. and as most people on this site, i often bite more than i can chew when it comes to buying games. combining these two facts, i have accumulated a large amount of unread VNs. i knew this, but i didn’t know the exact number, or how bad it truly got. i only figured this out recently, while making a steam collection for pending VNs. the grand total amounted to around 100, and i thought, “damn, i really need to get to reading”. so here we are, logging progress on BLAEO!

The List

this is the starting list of 100 VNs. note that a small amount of them aren’t on Steam, they’re Switch exclusives

and that’s 100! (there’s actually a handful more i didn’t list….). the idea is to report back at the start of each month with progress made within this list. i thought it could be a fun “challenge”! the objective isn’t to clear the entire list, as i feel like that would be unrealistic, but i would at least like to get it down to 50, for a start. after that, we’ll see! i will have probably obtained a bunch of new novels by then…. ahahah…..

and with this, i shall return next month to report on progress! until then, see ya and have a good backlog hunt! 💛

oh boy, good luck! That’s quite the list

thank you! :’) it is a hefty task i’ve got ahead of me indeed

Well at the very least the Sakura Games (and really anything by Winged Cloud) are pretty short and straightforward. So, you should be able to crank those out pretty quick. Suppose most VNs aren’t too problematic when it comes to completions, though I know some will require some serious time investment Highway Blossoms being one of them.

Hoping you enjoy Blackberry Honey, 2064 ROM, and the Nekopara series. Well, I hope you enjoy as many of these as you can, but those in particular were some of my favorites. Best of luck in your visual reading ventures. :salute:

yeah, most of these are luckily on the shorter side :’) i’m more concerned with the ones on the otome (reverse harem) on the list. the one I’m currently reading, Collar X Malice, is currently at around 50h… and i’m not even finished with it!

funnily enough, the next one on my list is Blackberry Honey! looking forward to it and i’ll keep your recommendations in mind :D

Last time “100 VNs” got mentioned on this site, it was probably me getting discouraged from trying to complete a hundred VNs in the span of a year. …as if there aren’t enough to go around!

So to subvert that, I’ll say: good luck, fellow otome lover! I’ll be curious to read your thoughts!

kiiroichi

thank you! 💛

Good luck with your list and if you haven’t already, you absolutely must read The House in Fata Morgana and Clannad.
From your list, I can recommend 2064 Read Only Memories and Momory’s Dogma CODE 01. I also own (and have mostly read) the Nekopara games but they make me a little uncomfortable.

kiiroichi

oh Clannad is such a classic! and i’ve heard very good things about The House in Fata Morgana. i’m sure they’ll end up in my library eventually! 2064 seems to be widely recommended, so i can’t wait to get to it!
nekopara is definitely a strange beast x3 i’ve read the first one and the prequel, and they require a lot of suspension of reality to play them. their production value is quite high so they’re enjoyable, but if you think too much about the real life implications of the story you’re definitely going to get the ick, lol

I’ve been trying to get into visual novels more! Most of these don’t look like my cup of tea, but I’m still excited to see your thoughts! Especially “We know the devil” and “Death Mark” those look interesting.

I can recommend Steins Gate. That one starts off slow and I didn’t like the characters at first, but it gets better and better and eventually becomes great!

kiiroichi

Steins Gate is such a classic! i’m excited to see what it has to offer too!
